Light and creamy. Dead on, classic pumpkin pie. Nice little tumble of molasses, sweet pumpkin paste, even pumpkin bread, with just a dapple of frosting. A touch of dark chocolate and caramel, too. 8-9

Taste is quite intense, quite spicy, and maybe just a little too boozy and a little too sweet. Starts off with that dark molasses and sugar, with an almost jarring sweetness, like clumped brown sugar, or rock candy. That persists, and is actually even sweeter on the second sip. Long aftertaste, which exhbits more clove and all-spice. Much prefer that to the sip itself. 6-7

Bottled on 8/19/15 and served on 10/29/18. Pours a plum-brown with two fingers of khaki head. Head retention is good, leaving a few dancing rings of lace behind. Aroma is big pumpkin followed immediately by spices - cinnamon and nutmeg. While the pumpkin and spice notes fade, which is very slight, notes of oak, toffee, burnt sugar, and molasses layer over toasted, biscuity, nutty, malts. It smells big, warm, and inviting. Flavor profile is pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, and toffee - like a sugary pumpkin pie with a heavy hand on the spices. Biscuity, toasty, nutty malts form the crust, which is much more robust than an average graham cracker crust. Oak pokes through, but is otherwise dominated by the pumpkin, spices, toffee, and molasses. Its 10.3% ABV develops a little heat at the finale, as the beer warms. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a smooth, still texture, perhaps per the barrels and a little bit of flattening age. Overall, this still drinks big even after a bit of age. The pumpkin and spice notes, which typically fade, are still strong and sturdy. It carries a presence with each sip, despite the still texture. It seems to drive the experience via big flavor while nearing on a very difficult balance. Look score was bolstered 1/4 of a point due to the strong performance over 3 years after bottling, and for a barrel aged beer at that.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 750mL bottle.

Amber and slightly hazy with little carbonation, and a finger of beige head.

Smells of pumpkin spices, creme brulee, hints of rum, and pumpkin.

Tastes like a pumpkin spice barley wine. Lightly sweet, hints of stinky foot, pumpkin spice, and a definite alcohol presence.

Syrupy, slightly oily body, with little carbonation, and an alcohol burn in the throat.

Got this in Albany, NY, drinking in Muskoka, Jan 14th, 2017. Strong and pungent, this one is a definite sipper.

This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was a semi-dark to bronzed dark brown color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated practically immediately. Lacing was mostly messy, and kinda stringing itself all over the place. The smell started off with boozy sweet sticky pumpkin spices, ginger, slight allspice, and slight cinnamon. Light breadiness warms into balance it out, damn, and wow! The taste was boozy sweet with subtle balancing sweet pumpkin spices really nicely. There was a subtle sweet boozy aftertaste running into a sweet sticky finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with an awesome sipping quality about. Overall, an absolutely fantastic imperial pumpkin ale.
