From a growler purchased at The Brass Tap, Greenfield, WI the day before:

Pours dark apricot colored with a thin head that leaves lacing.

The smell is of robust citrus and pine.

The juicy citrus and pine is supported by a caramel backbone to balance the bitterness. Finishes with a juicy, fruity bitterness.

This is an excellent American IPA! Smooth and alcohol well-hidden.

Clean fresh with juicy hops without being overly bitter. This is one to seek out.

Pick up a six-pack from my local liquor store. The best by date suggests it's still good for another five weeks, so my review would likely change if fresher. Poured directly from the fridge into a pint glass.

L: A very nice, clear amber color with an inch off-white head that falls after a few minutes to a film and ring that leaves moderate lacing on the glass. There's moderate carbonation visible in the brew.

S: Some nice herbal and citrus hop notes in the nose, along with malt breadiness. There's a faint suggestion of grape juice and berry in the mix, as well.

T: There are bready malt notes at the front that are joined by some citrus rind hop flavors that are bright and somewhat difficult to classify. There are some more of the herbal notes I got from the nose--maybe a little stone fruit, too. I again have a brief sensation of grape juice or perhaps a fruitier white wine like a riesling. The hops assert themselves on the back end--citrus, with subtle suggestions of herbs and pine. There's some clear alcohol flavor at the back before this one leaves you with some nice hop bitterness.

F: This one feels pretty light on the palate. There's quite a bit of carbonation, and the feel is also a bit on the watery side. Despite the lingering bitterness and high ABV, this one doesn't display any stickiness/syrupy quality. Pretty easy to put away.

O: I've been trying a lot of quality IPAs for the first time these last couple weeks, so I worry that my judgement here might be too critical. While this beer does have a very nice, easy-to-drink quality and smooth taste, I find myself wishing for bolder, more assertive flavors from the hops and malts (which might've been the case with a fresher bottle). As my earlier comments might reveal, it was difficult to distinguish some of those flavors: "a little muddled" might be the best way to describe it. The mouthfeel, as well, leaves a bit to be desired. However, the taste is still good for the style, and the drinkability is definitely a plus. But with so many amazing offerings in this style from lots of different brewers, I likely won't be rushing to get my hands on this one again.
