From BeerAdvocate Magazine #73 (Feb 2013):
Great execution with the barrel aging and a hell of a job with brewing a robust Baltic Porter. Very balanced which is great to see with any beer that is aged in booze barrels, nothing is lost but all is complemented. Any worth beer geek should seek a bottle or two of this out.
STYLE: Baltic Porter
ABV: 8.0%
AVAILABILITY: Rotating
LOOK: Darkness, showy lacing
SMELL: Creamy, brown sugar, faint sherry, wood, charcoal, dark chocolate, black currants, light booziness

Poured a deep, dark brown body that appears black unless held to light with one finger of thick tan head. Overall impression of appearance is of a perfect Baltic Porter. Scents of rich black coffee, licorice, bitter roast malt, light dark molasses and caramel, with toast and vinous dark fruit playing supporting roles. The bourbon barrel adds nice notes of bourbon and vanilla that compliment the richness of the aroma. Overall impression of aroma is of the near perfect Baltic porter. It is rich, complex, boozy, warming and deep. An amazing beer. Flavor begins richly roasty, with notes of deeply roasted malt, burnt toast and black coffee, dark fruit, though indistinct along with lighter notes of bourbon, licorice and cocoa. Middle continues this profile. Finish is bitter with notes of black coffee, cocoa, burnt toast, roast malt, bourbon and oak and light molasses sweetness balancing. Aftertaste is roast malt and burnt toast with light dark fruit and molasses. Overall impression of flavor is of a very nice barrel-aged Baltic porter. It is roasty, rich and deep, bitter, true to style and simply a joy. Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied with medium-light carbonation and a velvet feel. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a fantastic Baltic porter. Overall this is an amazing barrel aged Baltic porter. The aroma and flavor are fantastic, wonderful examples of the style aided by the smooth and easy mouthfeel, despite the ABV. A wondrous beer.

In a snifter from a bomber.
A- light, foamy espresso head forms into a plateau, and lace is scattered everywhere. Pitch black body with zero clarity.
S- creamy sweet malt flavor, the trade mark Uinta floral hop aroma (smells similar to Dubhe), faint chocolate, earthy notes. Caramel.
T- dark bitter chocolate, caramel, a touch of floral hops, vanilla.
M- thin and viscous with a bitter bite and some minor booziness. The finish lingers bitterlike.
O- A good beer but I remember it being close to perfection on my first try. I guess my taste has changed or evolved.

This poured with a bit more carbonation than expected but it hollowed to a thick froth that left intense lacing.
The nose presents roasted chocolate malts, dry coffee bean, sweet vanilla and a graininess toasted malt.
The flavors are a bit muted with very little barrel but I get significant chocolate malts. At times I catch a bit of vanilla bean or cream, some roasted coffee and a touch of smoky ember.
This is an enjoyable beer but I expected a bit more barrel characteristics as supposedly it's 12 months in a barrel.

Appearance: Pours a slightly translucent coffee color with a very modest head that fades rather quickly; just a few dots linger
Smell: Raisinets, prune, pine tar, vanilla, coconut and dark cherry tones
Taste: Raisinets, oak, pine tar and prune, up front, with licorice and cocoa developing; woody, with faint tobacco and Bourbon tones developing, after the swallow; the flavors fade in the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with low carbonation
Overall: Another older bottle picked up courtesy of Total Wine's focus on freshness, this one bottled over three years ago; oxidation has impacted the flavor profile, no doubt, and has led to lower scores

In a snifter this beer was black in color with a thin tan head.
It had a roasted malt aroma that seemed to be more on the chocolate side. There was also more than a hint of vanilla.
Very nice taste. Sweet chocolate, a tiny bit of coffee. Vanilla came through well, as did a bit of oak.
A fairly rich beer, one that wanted to be sipped.

Black in color and barely penetrable to light. There's a fingernail of beige head around the rim and covering the vast majority of the top of the beer. Nice lacing on the glass. I smell dark malt with just a hit of bitter roasted barley. The flavor reveals a judicious amount of smoked dark malt with a hint of bitterness, but that is offset by the sweet bourbon. The balance is really dialed in. The mouth is silky smooth and creamy.

Poured into becker pint glass; jet black with an awesome brown head from an easy pour that doesn't fade at all, leaving nice lacing as it slowly descends.
Smells of big chocolate, coffee, booze, metallic malt. A big smell, delicious.
Tastes like big chocolate and coffee, slightly tart, very big and malty, dark bread. BIG taste.
Mouthfeel is HUGE, creamy and smooth.
`Overall, this is such a big beer I regret choosing it as the second beer for the evening. Big beer, big mouthfeel, damn.
