Poured into pint.
Pours clear orange golden with one-finger off-white head, medium to low retention.
Smell - rubber (as usual for the brewery), skunk, other notes aren't impressive.
Taste - sweet malts, some fruitiness, skunk, paper.
Light body and soft carbonation.
Inevitably poor. One of the worst bitters I've ever drunk.

500 mL bottle poured into a pint glass.

I'm not sure why this is classified as an ESB, when it says "pale ale" right on the bottle. Seems more appropriate style to me as well. Anyway . . .

Pours with a thick, rich off-white head, very foamy. Sits atop a reddish-brown (more brown than red) brew, clear and clean.

Smells interesting. Some faint sweetness, perhaps floral. And some wild grains are picked up.

Taste is very bitter, almost spicy, most likely from the hops used. I found the taste very difficult to enjoy, although the mouthfeel is fine.

Not likely to try again anytime soon.

Appearance - golden Amber colour, very little White head and a lot of bubbles, very clear and crisp looking.

Smell - little sweetness, burnt toast and sounds a bit strange but a damp wood and cut wet grass smell. Also has a metallic smell like it has came from a can. A few minutes after pouring there were hints of caramel and toffee.

Taste - not a great deal in the way of flavour, slight sweetness and grapefruit taste. Not much in the finish and taste disappears very quickly.

Mouthfeel - very carbonated and thin, not very smooth and foams up quite a bit in mouth, feels like drinking a cheap lager.

Overall - this is drinkable, no distinctive features to speak of, tastes very generic in my opinion, wouldn't buy again.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Dec 2012. Another local brew from Masham.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A rich golden hue with plentiful carbonation. Yields a nice head of fluffy white foam with good retention; it lasts for a while before reducing to a thin surface layer. Aroma of subtle caramel malt with fruity yeast esters and hints of grain, faint citrus and stewed hops.

Tastes of light caramel malt with a dry finish. Notes of earthy yeast, mild fruity esters, faint grain and stewed hops. A subtle bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, with decent body for a light ale. Somewhat astringent. Aftertaste of earthy, fruity yeast and stewed hops.

Not bad - no showstopper but a decent pint. The flavour and aroma are fairly average - yeast and bittering hops. Not much in the way of aromatic hop notes. I imagine this is a shade better on cask, and would quench your thirst nicely on a warm day. Nothing special but worth trying.

Serving Type: 500ml bottle.

Appearance: Dark amber with orange hues. Sticky off white head. Fair retention and a slight amount of lacing.

Smell: Malty sweetness, burnt caramel.

Flavour: Sweet and malty, raisins. Dry alcohol finish and little hop bitterness. Nice amount of carbonation.

Overall: The malty sweetness overpowers almost every other flavour leaving the beer very one dimensional. Hops flavours/bitterness is subdued.

Bottle from Sainsbury's (500ml for £1.99):
Rich, golden amber colour with a thumb sized head on top. This is quite foamy looking and creamy with pretty good retention too with no reduction at all over the first few minutes.

Sweet caramel malts and a rich, malty aroma at the start. There is some grain and yeast along with a sugary sweetness and some lemon/citrus too. There is a slightly metallic aroma and some bitterness as well.

Sweet malts, some burnt sugar and a toasted caramel taste kick things off. I could detect some bitter flavours, a little lemon and a biscuit like malty taste towards the end.

Quite light bodied, moderate carbonation and a lot of bitter notes in the mix. There is a slight citrus tang and this is an easy drinking beer that you could easily drink a couple of.

Nice looking but fairly average one with everything being fairly run of the mill and lacking adventure. It had some nice sweet malts touches in both the smell and the taste but that was about all it did have and it ran out of steam quite quickly.

An orange coloured beer with a moderate rapidly receding head. I smell dried fruit.

This begins with a well carbonated clean start and very little sweetness before a little of that dried fruit becomes apparent as a warm creaminess begins to take hold, only to eventually be usurped by the clean hop flavour reasserting itself. Leaves the mouth rather dry but a tad herbal.

Appearance: Clear golden honey colour, with a fluffy pure white head, and minimal carbonation.

Aroma: Lots of grain with a slightly, not unpleasant, acidic vinegar aroma. Clear apples on the nose, as with the original black sheep, a sweet raisin.

Taste: Quite a bitter hoppiness up front, which is soften quickly by a light caramel malt. There is a fruity apple as with the nose, and lots of citric flavours.

Mouthfeel: Medium in body, with a smooth feel, and lightly carbonic in the palete.

Drinkability: Nice and easy to drink, with subtly balanced flavours, and a smooth texture.

Appearance: light copper, great clarity, thick layer of light tan spongey foam with great head retention, lace

Aroma: an absolutely scrumptious bouquet of malty caramel, pine sap, fresh cut grass and bitter apples

Flavor: dry malt backbone with a quick-acting assertive bitterness; tangy, unripe grapes, apple peels; finishes dry with a throaty bitter aftertaste

Mouthfeel: medium body, fine carbonation, crisp texture, slightly astringent
