look: 3.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 4.5

Appearance: Poured into my pilsner glass a pale gold color, with high carbonation feeding a medium white head.

Smell: Understated sweet bready aromas. Not much happening here, but no "off" smells like skunking or the like. Pleasant enough.

Taste: Starts with light malt sweetness leading to a citric lemon-like taste with a dry, herbal hop finish with the faintest hint of alcohol.

Mouthfeel: Thin, soft, the relatively high carbonation is easily detected here.

Drinkability: As a lighter lager this one is emminently drinkable, a perfect session beer if you're in the mood for uncomplicated, quality lager.

If what you want is a simple thirst quencher clearly made from quality ingredients, or just a nice beer to keep around for guests accustomed to macro lager, this is certainly worth considering. I think I'll pour another one now.

One of my favorites. Looks great. Taste is classic German lager. My only gripe is with the feel which I think is a bit on the fizzy side. Overall you can't go wrong with this if you are looking for a classic beer that is easy to love.

A very drinkable, enjoyable beer. Smells inviting, tastes fresh and has a number of different taste themes all working together. Finishes clean with no unpleasant aftertaste. It just seems right to me and I would be hard pressed to order something else if this was available.

Nice Helles - drinkable and good representative of the style. Maybe has a little more happiness and a bit drier and more carbonated than the HB Helles - more fitting for the hot summers as a session beer. There is a reason this beer has been around for so long - it's delicious!

Pours a deep clear gold with a fizzy white head. The head doesn't last long but does leave a small amount of lacing. The aroma is mild, with light notes of cut grass and grain. The taste is similar with the addition of light hops earthiness. The mouthfeel is toward the lighter side with a nice bite from the hops on the finish. A very good lager.

Pours clear straw yellow beer with fizzy white head, relatively weak retention. Smell is rich malty and rather sweet. Taste - mineral, malts, lack of hops even for the style. The beer seems not balanced and not carbonated as it must have been.

I tend to like German pilsners so I have high hopes for this one.

Appearance: Beer is your typical pale golden color with a wispy head of white foam that dissipates quickly. Crystal clear brew with thin thread of carbonation.

Aroma: Light. grassy notes here of hay and hops. Slight skunkiness but I wonder anymore if that's avoidable in the style, regardless of bottle color.

Taste: Very light flavor profile. This would get overwhelmed immediately if paired with food. Clean aftertaste, no sour notes. Crisp and bracing, best served ice cold I should think. It's just that nothing stands out.

Mouthfeel: Thin and light, what one would expect.

Certainly one of the least offensive beers one could try, but simple in scope and complexity. Not a bad brew to offers noobies before moving them on to stouts. This one would certainly hit the spot after a heavy day of labor in the sun.

(330 ml green bottle, 10.2019; purchased single off shelf... poured into 500 ml mug)

L: brilliantly-clear, yellow-gold liquid; tall, pillowy, white foam... thin, broken cap holds for a bit; very little lace

S: initial 'euro pale' profile, with mildly spicy-doughy, apple-like esters... spiced apple cake; rather malt-forward... subtle potpourri note eventually creeps in

T: malt forward up front as well, begging for a good bit more hop bite on the bottom; doughy, oxidized apple-skin aftertaste... apple graham

F: soft plushness to its body; perhaps a little spicy warmth lingering... delicate residual smear on the palate; only a faint murmur of carbonation at the back

O: eh... I guess this is a helles, but it drinks like a euro pale lager, and it ain't a standout in either field, though its not half bad, and does pack enough malt meat to satisfy... better off drinking cold from container (1507)

Spaten Premium
12 oz green bottle
L 27061H
Served in a pilsner glass

Pours a vibrant light yellow with a golden tint. Mini carbonation bubbles shoot to the top of the glass. A bone white head forms on top leaving fluffy trails of sticky lace behind.

Initially I got a whiff of skunk in the nose, but that disappeared rather quickly. Whiffs of grains and fruit sweetness.

Hints of grains with a grassy flavor. A touch of honey sweetness meshes with a strong grainy biscuit backbone. The finish reveals a tight hop snap.

Mighty quaffable and pleasant to drink. An authentic Munich Helles Lager. Definitely a warmer weather session time brew.

Great tasting Munich lager, just the right amount of smoothness to bitter beer taste. Very smooth, pours a golden type color and smells great. Smells of a wholesome beer, fine bubbles from the carbonation. A very good Munich style lager, and the price is very good for a delicious tasting beer.

Sampled from a refrigerator sized mini-keg. I think it was about 5L in size. Instructions are clearly marked, but freshness date is some random numerical code. Color is golden straw, head isn't too big due to the small size of the keg spigot; I couldn't get the beer to come out fast enough to create good head. Smell is grainy with some typical German maltiness. Taste is nicely balanced, with grain taste paired with light malts. Maybe just a bit of lemon flavor. This is crisp and very drinkable. Another German beer in a long line that I enjoy.

Pours a clear pale yellow with minimal head that reduces quite quickly. Nose is skunk and grain. Taste follows with some skunkiness as well as the standard lager graininess. A small bit of apple and straw. Mouthfeel is too thick and slightly undercarbonated. A good drinkability. Overall a decent lager, certainly better than your average american macro, but I think there are defenitely some better examples out there. A good choice for an easy drinking lager, but its usually sitting right next to a paulaner, which I find to be slightly better. Decent lager.

12oz bottle into a guinness pint glass.

Pours a crisp golden color with a 1 inch white head. Nice fruity, refreshing smell. you know this beer will go down smooth. Taste is as anticipated from the nose, lemony with a perfect mix of hops and malts. a tad bitter, very good. on the lighter side of medium bodied and the lighter side of medium on the carbonation.

Overall just a good, enjoyable beer. Nothing world class but it's just solid and a brew I think almost any kind of palate would enjoy.

S: Leafy hop flavor.
T: A bit bready, with hoppy finish.
F: light bodied with excellent carbonization.
O: Good lager.
