This is a fine beer, with well-balanced, pleasant flavor that sits well on the palate. Those looking for pungency and strength may do better elsewhere, but you can't fault Spaten Premium for being a fine, easygoing brew. There's a place for that. I think Bud drinkers and aficionados alike can find something here. The difference between this and a typical macrobrew is the subtle additional flavors that come across - a little malt, a little lemon, some balanced hop flavor - all which combine to produce good Bavarian beer.

A: Bright clear golden yellow. Nice white head. Carbonation is high. Retention is on the poor side.

S: Grains. Pungent. Pepper and lemon. Crisp. Nice.

T/M: Bubbly and crisp. Grains and malts with some light herbal hops. The taste of grapes come in a little. The overall taste is a little on the clean side. The finish is dry with a linger of grains.

O: Very Good German Lager. I can taste the vintage recipe. Easy to drink, not a bad choice.

Cheers!!

Straw gold with a fluffy white head that holds for a little while.

Sweet, grainy Pilsner malt dominates with a balanced bitterness and a hint of Noble hop flavor and aroma. Finish is dry with a nice tingle of carbonation.

Sort of like a German session beer. It hits all of the highlights required of the style and goes down quickly with food.

Poured from 12oz green bottle into a short pilsner glass. No freshness date.

A: Pale straw yellow with short big-bubbled thin white head with a lot of lace at the crest.

S: Cereal and bread grains with a touch of lemon

T: A very unique lager with lots of bready, yeasty flavors up front with a burst of raisin mixed with light lemon citrus.

M: Smooth and easy to drink with a medium-body, coating feeling with a relatively light amount of carbonation

D: The raisin undertones are very interesting and, combined with the velvety feel, make for a singular taste experience.

Had a mini-keg of this at a little party tonight. It poured a medium gold color with a very nice white head that settled after about 5 minutes and left nice lace down my glass. The smell was quite malty with a very bread like scent overall. The taste was very smoothe and was largley dominated by a thick maltiness. Slight grain and apple flavors were there as well and pretty much no hoppiness to it whatsoever. The mouthfeel was quite flat, I'm thinking the mini keg might have gone flat or it was not tapped right or something. All in all it was a good easy drinking beer that went very well with the pizza and bean dip.

One of the basic fine German lagers. Always available, reliable (unless it has been sitting to long in the store). It has a nice golden color with white head. Crips tasting, with lingering bitterness, but with enough smoothness for balance. It a beer for everyday consupmtion. Maybe this is the mass-produced version of German Bud, but at least it is good.

A: Golden filtered, almost no carbonation, 4 fingers of white head with merengue like chunky lacing.

S: Light and malty, some German hops, hay, fermenting hay.

T: Malty, smooth, hay, a little fermenting hay, little bitter hops but very subdued in the background. Light sweetness. A little green herb.

M: Medium bready body, very low carbonation.

O: I love this style, enjoying this Spaten version which is such a classic.

I ordered this in a German restaurant in Moscow, and it brought me back to my college days in the beer gardens of Munich. My favorite Munich beer then, it still delivers today.

Came out clear gold under a big slightly off-white contoured head that left excellent lace down the glass. The nose is mildly malty with, unfortunately, a touch of soap. The mouth is prickly and light, as it should be. The flavor features a good light malt followed by a nice hoppy bite in the finish. The aftertaste combines the light malty sweetness with a hoppy bitterness, making you long for the next sip. Good stuff.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pilsner glass

A - Straw yellow with champaign-like bubbles supporting a two finger white fizzy head that subsides to a thing lace rather quickly.

S - Straw and lightly sweet malts. Some corn husk in the background.

T&M - Smooth yet drying mouthfeel with a very clean taste. Taste of bread and mildly sweet malt with a low-moderate hop bitterness. Very nice and drinkable. No unpleasant aftertaste.

12 oz bottle

A - Clear and bright gold, with a bright white head; decent retention and good lacing

S - Scent is grainy and "bright" with some citrus tones, hops seem light in the nose

T&M - Lighter medium body with a lot of grain and a bit of a vinous note (white grapes?). Hints of lemongrass and a touch of a yeasty, biscuit or cracker type quality.

D - This style has grown on me, and to me this is one of the better examples that I've had. Lot's of clean flavors with good balance.

A- Tan gold, respectable amount of head. Fades quickly but didn't really disappear. Good retention. Decent carbonation.

S- Honey and grains as well as a slight herbal hopping.

T- Good balance of yeast, hops, malts, lemon, and herbs. Balanced incredibly well. There's a slight amount of honey sweetness to it.

M- Pretty smooth. Medium body. The carbonation comes on a bit rough.

D- All around pretty good beer. Somewhat standard though. What you'd expect from a Munich Helles lager. Very easy to drink.

Has a nice dark golden yellow color. Pours with a nice thick head with tinny bubbles that lace the litre glass as they recede. Has a definite aroma of Vienna malt with a light hop aroma. Malty is how I would describe the taste and aroma of this great German brew.

Really bright, clear, somewhat goldenish color. Smell is the weak point for this because it had a very small hint of skunkiness (green bottle). Tastes very refreshing, and is incredibly smooth and easy to drink. I could seriously drink this stuff like water.

Light gold and crystal clear with the patches of foam, that always look like mold to me, floating on top.
I love the smell, lemony with a touch a sourness.
Taste is typical helles light and not much of it.
Smooth and easy drinking , this is a perfect hot weather cutting the grass beer.

I received a 2 litre boot of Spaten Lager at a local German restaurant in San Francisco.

It poured with a good head for a lager, with a rich golden color (not pale as in, say, a Budwesier or Heiniken. It had a smooth, crisp flavor without being watery and the carbonation stayed in my mouth. This is a very drinkable lager which doesn't lack flavor and is therefore a great 'session beer', not making one sick the watery alchoholic feeling of an American Macro.
Certainly drinkable enough to finish a boot without wishing I had ordered something else.

I got this beer in a sampler.

Nose is grainy and hoppy.

This beer poured a nice clear yellow with a medium white head.

The taste is fresh and clean with some grain, hops and a little citrus.

Mouth feel is nice and bubbly. This beer is very easy to drink and could be one of the better session beers. I really enjoyed this beer.

S - Hops, wheat, carmel, has a sharp aroma.

T - Clean and crisp. Can taste wheats and hops with a slight citrus bite.

M - Very light with a crisp finish. Refreshing.

D - Very nice goes great with pizza, good any day.

appearance; clear straw yellow with a fluff white head. Bubbles are fine and large, leaving sticky lacing. Follows the style to every last detail. Head dissipates slowly, yet if pour properly, remains throughout the drink.

smell; mostly spicy hops, not much else.

taste; much more malty in a raw dough and barley flour sort of way. Slightest bit of citric hops in the finish before malts come out again. This taste a little wierd for the style but the hop/malt balance is very accurate.

mouthfeel; sting carbonation with a dry and crisp finish.

drinkability; I'm always thrown off at first but the taste grows on me and this beer is quite refreshing. I buy it often times.

A - golden body, light carbonation, low head retention.

S - grain scent (like cheerios), and some fruits and florals.

T - sweet fruits (dates?), grassy hops and grain.

M - light, refreshing, carbonation that dances on the tongue..

D - good brew, I'll have to come back to this style when I study the european lagers.

poured from a 12 oz into my arrogant bastard pint glass, completely clear pale yellow coloring, thin white head tops it and dissipates quickly.

The malty scent reminds me of biscuit and a small amount of honey. Not much hopping to speak of but smells extremely smooth and light.

The taste was surprisingly good, refreshing and creamy smooth, the bready biscuity malts come through very well with a small amount of wildflower honey. The hops pick up with the honey and supply the faintest light colored fruitiness to the brew, golden delicious apple and pearblossoms.

The mouthfeel is quite full for a brew this thin looking, the creamy texture fills the palate and makes for a very smooth swallow.

Drinkability is 100%, definitely a session brew if you're into the lighter colored ones. Overall it's not something that particularly strikes my fancy but in and of itself it's not a bad brew, very neutral.
