A pretty boring pour: yellow and clear, a finger's worth of head. Very translucent with a lot of carbonation present. It left some sticky lace behind, but not much. After the head dissipated it left a little bubbly ring around the edges. The nose was a typical lager/pils ; grain, soda crackers, perhaps a little lemon. It tasted like white bread, malt, some crunchy crackers. The backend was dry with a balance of sweet. Very crisp and light mouthfeel; smooth. I liked it for a good summer lager! I'll smash a few of these, yo!

I gave this one a 4 "overall" because I think it's the best lager on the market. So for the style it's the best IMO. Smell? As expected sorta biscuit + malty nondescript aroma. Nice carbonation - easy drinking beer. Taste? What I like best about this is the clean crisp taste that any beer lover will appreciate. Spaten has the lager flavor that American adjunct lager beers claim to have but fall miserably short. If you dig lagers, do yourself a favor and taste the real deal.

On tap at a local biergarten

Summer calls for lagers and this one hit the spot. One of the best helles lagers i've had. Full flavor, light body. Wish they didn't sell this in green bottles, i'd be buying it all the time.

I bought a 12 pack of this in 12oz bottles. The bottle had an expiration date of 05/2017. The bottle number read L1266202 03:20. I poured the bottle in a pint shaped glass.

Appearance: golden, clear, and lively

Smell: grassy and clean

Taste: balanced with a malty taste from start to finish. It was crisp and a little lite with a dry finish

Mouth-feel: crisp and carbonated. I thought it was a little thin and watery

Overall: I am biased, I prefer lagers over ales any day. This lager was a little lite for me but it was crisp and worth having more than one. Enjoyed that it had a balance finish and was dry with no aftertaste. This is a standard in lagers as far as I'm concern. Worth bringing to gatherings for any occasion.

Not a normal style for me, so take with a grain of salt..

Pours light color, good carbonation.
Smell is typical skunky euro lager
Taste is very good, best ive tried of this style. Reminds me of a cleaner heineken
Feel is good, crushable.
Overall, nice beer for style. Will drink again

Preferred it out of bottle than poured

Pours a crisp and clear golden yellow with a fizzy head of carbonation.

Spicy yeast and noble hop aroma with a nice and sweet toasted biscuity malt character.

Toasted malt, spicy noble hop bitterness, and yeasty.

Light-bodied, high carbonation.

Overall, a crisp and clean lager, but nothing to write home about.

Not a bad lager beer. I picked this up in China in the import section of a Walmart. Color is typical of a lager - golden yellow and fairly transparent. Good carbonation, which led to a decent head that disappeared quickly when poured into a glass. It was a little bitter and dry at the start with a good, smooth finish. While this was a little lighter than my normal preference, all in all it was an enjoyable beer.

Great beer! Another readily available high quality brew when I moved to Toronto in early 2010 from WV. I was like a kid in a candy store..sure craft brews were big then in the US but all we were getting were IPA's and im not a fan. Happily , selections have expanded since I moved back last summer.. but man my time in Canada really opened my eyes to some really great beers.

To the point, this is a perfect example of the style. At the same time it has a distinguishing flavor to it that sets it apart from its peers. A very subtle fruity dryness is how i describe it.

From Hipercor. In Bavaria glass. After dinner. Good maltyness, with more bitterness than usual in the style. Nice mouthfilling feel. Easy drinking. A pity its ugly look, with no foam.

Clear gold with about one finger of white head that lasts about five minutes. Some splotches of lace left behind as the liquid level drops.
Smell is rich malts yeast and noble hops.
Taste is a bit hop forward and quite fine for me. Noble hops and smooth biscuity malts.
Mouthfeel is light to medium with good carbonation. Finishes lightly dry and bitter.
This is what a lager beer should taste like.

Nice yellow pour, good clarity, 1" of virgin white head. Aroma hits those nice skunky lager notes.

Highly carbonated, noble hops, skunky taste, not offputting, very light malt stuff going on here, a little bit of green apple, lime and lemon going on in the background. Substantial bitterness for style. Good, but a little expensive per bottle.

This here lager, ladies and gentlemen, is the bees' knees. I spent many years living in Germany (10+) which is where I acquired my taste for German beer. This was the first. This is a perfect example of German brewing at its best, in my not so humble opinion. The taste is first-class and although a poured glass doesn't leave a whole lotta lacing around, it suffices. The smell can come across as skunky/grassy but it's the taste that matters.

I buy this lager on a constant basis here in NY. And much to my surprise, and pleasure, I obtained a 12-pack the other day from a local distributor with a bottling stamp of 02/16. Can you say fresh?

Love this stuff.

Served in a Hefeweizen glass, it pours a very clear, translucid yellow with a big foamy head with excellent retention. Lots of carbonation visible in the glass.

The smell is malty sweetness, almost like honey; hints of bread, biscuity.

The taste is very clean and follows the nose. Crisp and a very slight herbal note. Soft and long finish. Nice carbonation. Very refreshing.

A good München Helles.

Fairly pedestrian lager beer, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It hits all the notes you'd expect, is clean & crisp, maybe a bit thin on the mouthfeel but that is really the only negative, outside of its anonymous taste profile.

Great beer. If I see this on tap then its a must buy. Locally I only know of 2 places that carry it on tap. I have purchased it in bottle but It seems to not do it for me.

Overall I highly recommend this one. Great starter if you arrive late and want to catch up to your friends lame-o beers lol.

Served cold from 500ml brown bottle into straight pilsner mug.

L) Light to medium bright golden colour, clear, lots and lots of bubbles, 1cm dense white head. Looks a quality lager.

S) Slightly sweet yeasty munich malt. Appetising.

T) Very clean taste, the maltiness isn't as pronounced as some other Helles and there is a bit of hop bitterness that his nearer the front of the mouth than some other Helles. I like it, it has it's own distinct taste. There is a bit of toffee malt aftertaste.

F) Pleasantly light and fizzy, there is a bit of bitterness that detracts very slightly from the refreshment.

O) Very good Helles from a big brewery; stands up well to comparison against other Helles. Will buy it again if I see it.

Poured from the tap at Otto's in Willow Grove, PA. The appearance is a clear gold color with a white head. The aroma was full of malt with some yeast. The taste matched the aroma and had a very smooth palate.

Look- straw and light golden, thin white lace retains decently throughout.
Smell- grassy with some floral tones towards the end.
Taste- very clean taste. Some malts in the taste, mineral water and light and slightly herbal hops in the finish.
Feel- very light and crisp at first, goes a little flat and the body feels a little thin towards the end.
A decent, simple and clean lager. Nothing earth shattering, however, as I drank it I wondered why my Budweiser drinking friends who complain about my "strong" beer don't drink this instead. It's much better.

Poor - from a 12oz bottle - Nice easy poor, about a finger soapy head. Head settles down quickly to a thin top lacing. Very light lacing on the sides.

Appearance - 14k gold/straw, light amber. Very clear, almost no carbonation.

Nose - Very nice. Light Bohemian pilsner barley malt; bready/biscuit. Very nice light Hallertau, floral/grass/lemon. Very balanced, very light pleasant, rounded nose.

Mouthfeel - light, a little fizzy, a little watery... easy drinking.

Taste - Very balanced German/Bavarian pils/lager. What more is there to say, nothing really. Atypical Euro/German/Bavarian Pils/Lager. Pils barley malt, Hallertau hops, well balanced; a little grain, a little grass/floral/lemon. Nice light bitterness. No sweetness really, like in a Heineken.

Finish - Very nice light lasting finish. No off flavors. Floral, sour lemon. Dry, granny smith apple crisp.

Overall - Very nice beer. I love their website, they have all the pertinent info right there. One of the oldest breweries in Europe. This is a world class beer for sure. Very nice taste and finish. But honestly, it's not much different from Heineken and when I can get Heineken for half the price; well... I'm fine with the Heiny.

Food Pairings - honestly, pretty much everything. A great dinner beer.

Baught as Spaten München.
L: Pours clear straw with 2.5 fingers thick white head.
S: Leafy hop flavor.
T: A bit bready, with hoppy finish.
F: light bodied with excellent carbonization.
O: Good lager.

Pours crystal clear but unfortunately there is no head to speak of. Aroma of noble hops and some biscuit malt. Kind of a floral, soapy flavor with some faint cracker and roast. Moderate bitterness with a fairly sweet finish. Pretty much a staple of the style.

Wow, I am from Germany and moved to Los Angeles. I had Krombacher and Wahrsteiner, but Spaten Premium Lager really kills it.

Might be the best Lager I ever had, with a light malty taste.

A likeable helles lager when you can find it fresh enough (and hidden from light). Nice bready malt nose that truly evokes, well, bread - at times white, ever so slightly toasted, bread, at others perhaps a touch of pizza dough. Malt is similarly bready with a constant poke of lager yeast. Split as to where this stacks up with other German helles, but regardless it's worth a drink if you can find a freshy.

Look: clear gold with a finger of white head, little retention and no lacing
Smell: vaguely cereal, mineral, herbal, a bit skunky
Taste: dry cereal, mineral, mild herbal hops
Feel: light, average carbonation

Overall: I remembered liking this about 10 years ago when I tried it last, but I guess it's a testament to the american brewing scene that it just doesn't make much of an impression anymore. As a dry, drinkable lager it is acceptable, but there just isn't much to the flavor profile, dominated cereal and mineral notes.
