16 ounce pint - $5.50 at Taco Mac in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Served up a clear, deep yellow body with a smallish, white head.

Smell: The characteristic grassy, spicy touch of traditional German hops backed by a scent of grainy pilsner malts and scant hint of lemon.

Taste: Sweetish, grainy pilsner malts -- actually, make that particularly grainy. Modest background hint of basic lemon. Sharply spicy, grassy Noble hops with a moderate amount of bitterness that remains on-hand until the dry, lightly effervescent finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-high carbonation.

Drinkability: As it should be, it's a crisp, clean German Pilsner that's pretty easy to quaff down at record speed.

This was the only beer of interest in a restaurant in upstate new york that i was eating at. Usually prefer other german pilsners but his was very good. Color was excellent, flavor and mouthfeel was perfect for lunch; in general i would recommend this as a great lunchtime lager.

Served in a 0.3 liter Spaten Pils glass. Glass of cold water on the side to sip from periodically.

Appearance: The beer is clear, light golden color with a ½" white head that eventually recedes to a small ring around the glass. The flow of carbonation is nearly continuous though out consumption. Sipping leaves patches and spots of lacing here and there for most of the beer.

Smell: The aroma is soft, with pale malt and herbal/floral character. There are some hints of lemon zest and a few earthy notes.

Taste: The flavor is initially sweet from the pale malts and then the hops quickly slide in and take over with their combination of floral and lemony bitterness forcing the malt into the background.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is medium bodied and silky smooth with the steady light, prickly carbonation. The finish is long and dry, beginning in the malt sweetness but then turning into the bitterness of the hops which seem to go on and on.

Drinkability: I found this one to be very drinkable and it would be very easy to have more than one (in fact I did ☺ ). This one will also be easy to turn to in the future. It should be a great summer beer, light, refreshing and tasty. Not a great Pils but well made and tasty. (However given the ready availability of Stoudt's Pils locally this one will always be second choice if the other is available.)

Poured from tap into a Spaten European pils glass.

A: A light golden yellow color with a one finger white fluffy head. Nice right glass lacing.

S: Noble hops with grass, lemon, grains and malt sweetness.

T: Noble hops shine with light flavors of fruit with lemon, citrus, grass and a bit of pepper. The sweet sugary grainy malt takes over in the middle of the beer and lasts. Finish is a bit bitter but more sweet creaminess and mellowing. For me this is more akin to a Czeck style than German with it's balance and drinkability.

M: Smooth and creamy, not as bitter as I had hoped.

D: Light and drinkable, very easy going with this beer. Not a full bodied brew, but more drinkable.

Overall a solid beer I would have on tap any time. Not on par with the top notch pils', but still a solid brew.

This Spaten was too watered-down for my taste, despite it being on tap.

Appearance was light golden yellow, with a thin, white head.

Smell and taste were weak, with a poor distribution of sugary flavors and bitterness. Not crisp like most pilsners. Perhaps it was because it was the second-to-last beer in the keg before it went out. Tastes of cabbage, pear, and distilled water. Don't really know how else to describe this.

Mouthfeel a bit better, with the light hoppiness, gentle crispness, and syrupy sugars coming out in the mouth.

Finished poor, with little prospect of me wishing to open another.

Straw colored and clear. Pours with an impressive head and outstanding lace.

Malty and "frothy" in the nose. Nice floral hop in the background.

Well balanced, but quite light in flavor. Too little of a good thing. This has all of the elements of a nice pils but as it was watered down. Oddly, the body is fine.

Spaten Pils is a clear golden lager with a film of a white head. Soft fruit and wood are in the aroma. It smells prickly and a touch sweet with hints of lemon. It is light bodied and a touch gritty like minerals. It is smooth, well rounded in bitterness and shows great balance in flavor. All of the aroma elements are present in the flavor, plus pretzels and cracked pepper. Very drinkable.

Good two inch white head that sticks around for a little bit but doesn't leave a lot of lacing on the glass. Nice light taste with a fair malty body. Pleasant aroma of hops and citrus running on the lemony side. Taste is fresh but slightly bitter with a good amount of carbonation. A pretty straightforward pilsner. The finish was bitter but crisp that makes for relatively easy drinkability. Would reccomend to others that like the pils style with a zesty citrus taste.

This is a flavourful, highly drinkable pilsner with a good body, but, while hopd-ominated, it's relatively light in the hoppiness for a German pilsner.

Golden, it has a medium white head that shrinks only slowly and leaves no real lace.

The aroma is bready grain with a strong, sweet flowers and herbs and a hint of sulphur.

The taste is light but fairly firm malty, bready grain with herbal hops, hints of mineral and lemon, and light but dominant, zesty bitterness. A slightly oily texture and malty sweetness, nicely counter the hops, making it seem a little closer to a Czech than a true German-style pilsner. The hops mostly come to the fore with a finish that is zesty, lively, herbal, and lightly bitter, riding bready sweetness.

It lacks the clearly hop-dominated character or zesty cleanliness of other German pilsners, but it's still quite good and a lot better than many.

Served in a Large Hefeweisen Glass. Clear in apperance with yellow tint, nicely carbonated. Smell is of light earthy hops perdominated by malt sweetness. Straightforward Pils in taste, with a nice semi-crisp finish. Light Drinkability leading to exceptional drinkability. Not a favorite but definatly a nice beer, enjoyable in the hot weather.

pours a clear pale golden-yellow w/ a thin white head which dissipates quickly leaving a good coating of lace in my pilsn glass ; a moderate smell, cereal grains w/ some grassy hops ; a decent herbal hop bite initially filled in w/ a light bready malt flavor, a clean crisp finish ; a dry light bodied brew with a good amount of co2 ; a good pilsner for sure, i could drink this all summer long....

Pours a pale golden color with nice white head that hung around for a while. Nice grassy aroma with a floral element to it as well. Flavor is pretty much standard fare, but is very smooth with a pleasant mouthfeel. This is a very refreshing and easy drinking beer.

A - Pours a bright golden/wheat perfectly unclouded and has minimal head left little lacing.

S - Aromas of wheat and grains, has a bit of a bitter sweet smell, very crisp and clean.

T - Light and clean, the taste of wheat and grains are very present and balance nicely with the hops.

M - Light and crips, clean finish.

D - Easy to drink but there are better Pilseners.

This beer comes in a 16.9 ounce dark bottle.

Pours a clear yellow with a nice white fluffy head. Lace stayed to the end.

The nose is slightly hoppy and grainy.

Taste is true pilsner. Nice up front hops and great balance of malt and hops. Aftertaste is hops. Mouthfeel is good carbonation. A very pleasant beer to drink.

Pilsners are tough to find in my area. When I was in northern Germany, that is all that the bars wanted to sell.

Bottle Date of August 2008; Sampled February 2008
A vigorous pour produces a four-finger thick, pale, off-white colored head that leaves a fairly amount of lacing as it slowly recedes with a volcanic plateau in the middle of my glass. The beer is a brilliantly clear full gold color. Grassy, herbal hop notes mix with a touch of honey-like malt and a finish of soda cracker grain character. If you dig around a bi more fresh crushed grain aromas, notes similar to fresh bread crumb and a definite, fresh cut herbal note.

A crisp, hop biting bitterness is noticeable as soon as the beer hits my tongue. This bitterness continues throughout the flavor profile into a long dry finish. Slightly grassy, most definitely herbal with even a bit of lemon zest flavor, the hop character is certainly the defining character of this beer. The malt plays a supporting role here, but is very clean with just a touch of sweet grain flavor in the middle, and a dry, grain-like, bready finish that lingers on in the mouth. Light bodied and easy drinking, though it does have a light heft to it that helps the malt stick to the mouth a bit.

This is a nice quaffing beer; it is a great example of a German Pils; crisp hop and malt character with a solid hop bitterness. Certainly not the most intriguing beer in the world, but there is something about it that just hits the spot.

17oz bottle picked up at the Coop today for $2.. poured into my small weizen glass.

2" rocky head drops leaving sheets of lace.. polished straw colored brew.

Grainy aroma is sorta husky ... floral/spicy hop nose.

Good bitter backbone transitions into malty background flavors and a distinctive spicy hoppiness. Body is on the light side of medium with fairly high carbonation.... very drinkable any time of the year.

I always seem to have access to the Spaten Pils, and actually buy it quite often.. a pretty good deal for a well made German pilsner.

Clean, brilliant, golden color. Thin perlage. Decent head, white.
Nothing strange in the smell. Average hoppy, hay and freshness. For sure, not a bad beer.
Same for the taste, correct, just a bit anonimous. Sweet, acacia honey, and then a plesant bitterness in the back.
In the aftertaste the bitterness is quite long, and pleasant.
Light in body, very drinkable.

Pours a golden yellow with a thin head that diminishes to a thin layer. Aroma is sweet malts and a hint of bubble-gum. The taste is sweet malts and some slight citrus hop flavor. The beer is very light and crisp with near perfect carbonation. This is certainly an enjoyable pils.

A: Pale yellow, quite bubbly, with a HUGE frothy head. I mean, HUGE, like three fingers.

S: Very hoppy smelling.

T: Very hoppy with an intensely bitter aftertaste. A subtle mix of spices and fruit (citrus?) in there as well, but mostly overpowered by the hops.

MF: Light and bubbly, and goes down very smooth.

D: This beer got better as I continued to drink it. The spicy/fruity overtones came out more and more. Very nice flavor, much better than I had expected.

Spaten scores again!

I was served 12 ounces from a keg in a frosted mug.

A: It pours a nearly translucent bright yellow with a one to two finger bright white head. The head lingered but only moderately laced the glass.

S: There is a distinct aroma of hops that is accentuated by the heavy carbonation. There is also the slight smell of alcohol.

T: Very grassy and zesty. The flavor of the hops dominate giving it a crisp fresh flavor. It is not overly bitter so it retains its fresh flavor throughout the experience. It finishes somewhat but not overly dry with a tough of bitterness lingering on.

M: Light body with a thin crisp tang that is refreshing. There is a slight bitterness during and linger after each sip.

Comment: This is a refreshing beer that has enough zip to it to complement a heavy meat pizza or a plate of sausage and sauerkraut.

Spaten Pils pours a crystal clear golden amber from a dark brown 1pt .9fl oz glass bottle with a pry off cap. Head of white fine bubble foam went to over two fingers before dissipating to a full cap of carpeting foam with fine lacing along the walls of my 22oz Pils glass.

Nose is of damp barley grain, malt, and hops. Palate is a well bittered hops followed by toasted barley malts where the bittering is more prevalent than the sweet malt. The level of carbonation is evident by the constant streams of bubbles welling up from the golden Pils when the glass is at rest, which is not often. Also the bight of carbonation and bittering of the hops, make for a pleasant aftertaste as well.

A more complete Pils would be hard to find, as all of the attributes are represented well, appearance, smell, and taste, being World Class.

Poured a very light golden color with a fair sized head which left good lacing.

A good amount of carbonation, not too much, not too little. Left a nice tingle on the tongue.

Had a good crisp bite to it and a pleasing aroma.

A very drinkable Pilsner which did a fine job of quenching my thirst on a hot summer Vegas afternoon. I'd pick this one up again.

Poured into a Bitburger Pokal. Looks quite fit, with a light golden color, tight bodied finger of head and drippy lace. Slightly discomfitted by the rapids of carbonation emenating from the bottom but I know that's within the style. Nose is faint but fragrant, spicy hops. Stay on target.

Fresh and not as carbonated as I feared but nicely active. Defintely has some noble hops props, with a coarse, moderately bitter finish and tasty aftertaste. Mouthfeel could stand to be a little smoother but doesn't embarass itself. This is a surprisingly husky, aggressive pilsner (especially for a bottle) that will please traditionalists and fans of continental style beer. Not really up my alley but definitely demands respect.

A: Poured into a franziskaner weizen glass, this beer is light straw colored and clear with a nice 2 inch white head. Leaves some scattered lacing as it reduces to a cap of foam.

S: Grainy up front and grassy in the back.

T: Cereal grains and dough with an herbal hop tinge at the end. Pretty typical.

M/D: Smooth and sparkly, very easy to drink.
