12 oz. bottle poured into a weizen glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy orange gold with a big white head that recedes to about two inches and hangs around a bit.

Aroma: Smells of citrus, wheat, oranges and spices.

Taste: Now this is a terrific wheat beer. It's full of the signature flavors - citrus dominates, and there's no reason for a dippy orange slice. Just a really tasty wheat ale.

Mouthfeel: This is an area where this beer really excels. It's super smooth and a pleasure to drink. Great stuff.

Overall: Superb beer. I had a Blue Moon yesterday; comparing that to this is like comparing a second grade performance of Robin Hood to The Deer Hunter.

I'm not a big fan of the hefeweizen style or wheat beers, but this one is outstanding. This should be the benchmark for this style. I haven't had any American hefeweizen's come close to this one. I love the banana notes, clove, touch of caramel and nut. This is a great summer beer.

This beer is up there with Weihenstephaner as my favorite hefeweizen. Franziskaner was one of my entries into craft beer, and for that I'll always love it.

The look is cloudy orange-yellow. The smell is mostly banana and bread with a hint of almost shortbread cookie sweetness underlying it.

The taste is remarkably smooth and drinkable. Banana, vanilla, and light orange peel blend perfectly.

It's definitely better on tap here in the US, as imported bottles often aren't as fresh.

Another popular Hefe that is often in my fridge-- smell is not as robust as say, Hacker-Pschorr hefe, taste is not quite as good as Weihenstephan hefe, and feel is not quite as complex as Paulaner hefe, but is just as drinkable as these fine beers and a very good beer in its own right. Carbonation is a bit on the high side, and has a very light feel compared to the others--easy to tell since I just so happen to have all 3 bottles open with a Franziskaner in front of me, with the other 3 listed above! (I'd better get to drinking these up, I know, what a rough life LOL)

Franziskaner is also much more readily available around here, which is a big plus. I even found a bar that has this beer on tap, which is impressive to me since I am in the Central Indiana area where for some reason German beer is not all that easy to find. The first time I ordered this beer on tap, the bartender thought I was asking for a 'Francis Conner' and gave me a weird look for a couple of seconds until I pointed at the tap head! BTW, beer on tap tastes just like the beer out the bottle, which is a very good thing.

Look - poured from a 12 oz bottle. Cloudy, with a color that resembles apple cider. moderate carbonation with little lacing.
Smell - fruity with bananas and some sweetness. nothing out of the ordinary.
Taste - as expected, slight sweetness with good wheat and banana flavor. generously carbonated and has a strong wheat flavor with additional fruitiness.
Feel - medium bodied, moderately-high carbonation, and average ABV.
Overall - a great hefeweizen, and in contention as the "Big 3" for hefes (along with Weihenstephaner and Paulaner), at least for those that are commonly available. I still like Weihenstephaner a bit more though.

If you like hefeweissen it does not get any better than Franziskaner and Weihenstephaner. This and Weihenstephaner are the standards to measure others by.

50cl can. A bit too sweet, with notes of wheat, bananas, honey and white bread. No trace of alcohol, and the beer is quite refreshing, despite the sweetness.

Format: standard German 500mL macro brown bottle and standard label.

Appearance: pours a deep, cloudy amber with a big and fluffy head per the style. Drops to a finger or so of creamy pure white. Decent lacing down the glass.

Aroma: banana, cloves and spices, quality wheat and yeasts. Smells exactly as a traditional German hefe ought.

Aroma: some citrus joins the characteristics on the nose - quite a nice addition. All told a well-rounded flavour profile.

Taste: all of those flavours come through on the finish. Quite sweet, with a pleasant yeast and alcohol warmth.

Aftertaste: again spot-on. Medium in body with a full feel and decent moderate carbonation.

Mouth feel: a case of 20 x 500mL is AU$75, so an equivalent case of 24 x 330mL would be around AU$59. pretty good for a beer of this calibre.

Overall: a great quality traditional German Hefeweizen from one of their best breweries in my opinion. A good selection of flavours with a touch of citrus thrown in for good measure. A great price too at AU$75 a case of 20 x 500mL.

Pours a hazy orange that turns turbid and murky when the final ounces are poured into the glass. Beer is a burnt-orange with a finger of white foam. Head retention is moderate to poor. Aroma is lemon zest, clove, banana, and yeast esters layered over biscuity, nutty malts. It's really subtle, but still nuanced. Served chilled on a warm day, it's a welcoming smell. Flavor profile is nutty, biscuity malts with clove, lemon zest, banana, and yeast esters. Each sip opens up and folds out beautifully, despite being a smaller beer. Mouth feel is crisp and borders on harsh from the carbonation. It has a medium-thin consistency. Overall, a refreshing and flavorful hefe-weissen, which makes for a tasty sessionable beer.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 11.2oz bottle.

The Franziskaner Hefeweizen is the must have Weizenbier. This beer is the alpha and the omega of wheat beers, it's brewing culture dates back to the 14th century and it is one of the oldest in Bavaria. Any Bavarian would agree that Franziskaner is the complete wheat beer based on look, smell and taste of course.

If you don't like it then you don't like Weizenbier. But it is hard not to. In the world of beers, it is a pleasant difference to any Pils or Lager beer or other party beers. This is the beer of men, the taste of yeast makes it recognizable from any other beer. After the first sip, you will know that you are drinking something special.

Golden, hazy body with poofy white head which, sadly, leaves no lacing.

Clove gives your tongue an aggressive high five which is followed by aggressive carbonation. Final flavors are lingering clove and apple. I really appreciate the aggressive carbonation of this; it pairs well with the flavors.

Very very good.

Pours a hazy orange color, topped by a thick off white head. Aromas of clove, banana, and citrus waft from my glass. The taste is tar, acidic, and it has a soft banana finish. This beer is well carbonated, which contributes to a tingly sharp sensation in my mouth. This is quite good, and quite refreshing. Certainly not the most complex, but it is quite tasty and hits the spot perfectly on a warm day spent outside brewing beer. Quite fruity, with a bit of sweetness. This beer is light bodied, which helps it to go down easily. This is as good as it gets for warm weather/ in the sun drinking; smooth and thirst quenching.

Great Heffa!!
A - dark brown, nice foamy head
S - "yeasty", breadlike, very pleasant aroma
T - Awesome! You can tell the German influence in the aftertaste, but is definitely not overpowering. Very pleasant
M - light carbonation, not heavy, but a creamy texture
O - one of the better Heffas I've tried. Great taste, no alcohol aftertaste. You've gotta try one!

500ml bottle with no freshness date.

Typical but good hefeweizen appearance, copper in color and quite turbid with very good head retention.

The nose is light, but fairly nice - signature weizen yeast banana along with a bit of lemony citrus, some peppery spice, a little doughy bread.

The palate is quite thin, almost watery - I generally expect a bigger body on hefeweizens, and this one doesn't deliver. The flavors are decent, however; initially spicy with clove and white pepper, it segues into pleasant apple and banana fruitiness. The finish is quite phenolic, which seems to stick to the roof of the mouth long after the mild finish; it's a bit of a detraction. Pretty good overall, just not top-tier.

With the warmer days of summer upon us and only getting warmer (and more freaking humid... damn the Ohio Valley...), beers like this just sound appealing. Review is from notes taken on 5/23/2012 and poured from the bottle to a pint glass.

Appearance: Pour is a very hazy and cloudy, darker straw color with an apricot core; starts with a big two finger, billowy head with great retention -- looks like a pillow sitting on top of the glass; with the murkiness, it's difficult to see too far into it, but the carbonation appears strong near the sides of the glass.

Smell: Smell is solid and it's making my mouth water a bit -- plenty of biscuity/bready malt with a fair presence of some cloves and that smooth banana; slight citric presence, perhaps of lemongrass and just a touch of hop bitterness.

Taste: Really matches the smell to a T, and that smooth yeasty banana presence makes my night; plenty of it, and the slight bitterness in the back just balances it all out. This beer will definitely make my top ten session list with flavors like this -- getting through the six pack should prove to be no problem.

Mouthfeel: Body is between medium and light in terms of weight, and the carbonation is plenty strong, yet avoids being sharp; a mild stickiness is left on the roof of the mouth; smooth and goes down easy.

Overall: I'm lovin' it. A great beer with great flavors; body is light enough that it's not going to weigh you down but you know you're still drinking a "real" beer as opposed to something watered down that simply quenches the thirst. I will definitely be picking more of this up as time goes on.

A- A medium honey yellow, mildly hazy, lots of visible carbonation. A darker than usual hefe. The head has a soapy-foamy off white head, pillowy and light. Very good looking hefeweizen. No real yeast sediment from the bottom

S- Spritzy hefeweizen spice-- cloves and bananas, wheat malts, grasses, spring flowers. Mild and hard to really grasp, but decent enough.

T- Taste is mild and very pleasent. Light malt flavors, a creamy blend of spice and creaminess and a just noticeable hops bittered finish. So tasty and damn refreshing with a wonderful smoothness of tastes. Top notch German hefe, one of the most enjoyable beers I've ever had. Heartier than most other wheats, but still retaining it's lighter and uplifting nature. Two thumbs up!

M- Superb, a wonderfully fuller feeling beer, with great texture. The higher ammounts of carbonation don't really get in the way of this crisp beverage, it still seems delectably smooth and relaxed.

D- A most perfectly drinkable brew-- my new favorite wheat beer, simply fantastic!
