Poured from a bottle into a pint glass, the beer is a hazy but transparent yellow with effervescent carbonation and a persistent white head. Very little lacing, though.
The nose offers subtly sweet ripe banana and lemon, punctuated by a spiciness of clove and fresh hewn grass.
The palate tastes of banana bread and spritzy lemon water. A hint of bubblegum on the mid-palate. Finishes with a brown sugar and maple note, and dries out nicely on the aftertaste with clove, straw, and grass.
The mouthfeel is between medium and light, smooth and round, never quite watery, with fairly high carbonation and a lightly dry finish.

A classic hefeweizen that helped set the staple for the style. A solid beer overall.

Luxurious Hefeweizen with the full esther profiles present. Smooth wheat beer body with high drinkability and all of the classic spicy & fruity flavors coming through. A little drying but overall great.

Well executed hefeweizen from Munich. Weizen aromas abound on the pour, head is perfect pillow of foam. Color is cloudy and amber. Taste has elements of banana and bread. Well done!

Light yellow cloudy golden appearance with average white head. Banana wheat aroma with similar fruity tasting. The flavor last longer in the mouth, really easy to drink.

Pretty smooth beer to pour and pretty smooth going down. I've been used to drinking IPA's lately and this is quite a change. I think this is one I could drink a few of while on a July 4th picnic!

On tap. Pours a muddy orange. Big head. Aroma is very potent and rich in regards to the style. Wheat malt and yeast gives off a perfume of sweet, spicy, and dry scents. Flavor is of banana, pear, clove, wheat, cracked pepper, and that "back of the throat" dusty element. Body is full for it's alcohol content. Creamy, textured mouthfeel. I can't say that I am overly fond of the style, but its one of the best Hefeweizens I have gulped!

A - cloudy pumpkin orange. Soft white head 1cm dies quickly. Little to no lacing. Some continued carbonation. 3.

S - aluminum and banana candy. Some cotton candy. Changes as it warms. 3

T - sweet potato, herbal oregano-like hops, crystal malts. slightly sour citrus aftertaste. Not gross but not inspiring. 3.25

M - quite fizzy but unremarkable. 3

D - very mass produced feel. Nothing offensive nor enticing. Better than some micro weissbiers but lacks distinctiveness. 2.75

Easily my favorite beer of all time. Look is standard cloudy with a good, long-lasting head. Carbonation is evident. Smells and tastes like banana and clove, as well as typical bread flavor from a Weizen. The feel is smooth, refreshing, but not too watery, and with plenty of carbonation as could be seen before. Overall, quality beer, definitely worth giving a shot if you see it.

The Franziskaner Hefeweizen is the must have Weizenbier. This beer is the alpha and the omega of wheat beers, it's brewing culture dates back to the 14th century and it is one of the oldest in Bavaria. Any Bavarian would agree that Franziskaner is the complete wheat beer based on look, smell and taste of course.

If you don't like it then you don't like Weizenbier. But it is hard not to. In the world of beers, it is a pleasant difference to any Pils or Lager beer or other party beers. This is the beer of men, the taste of yeast makes it recognizable from any other beer. After the first sip, you will know that you are drinking something special.

16.9oz bottle into a Weizen glass.

A: Pours a hazy orange/gold with 1 1/4" frothy white head that recedes at a moderate pace. Retention is very good, lacing is about average-to-style.

S: Subtle. Citrus, clove, banana, bready yeast. Mellow esters & phenols coming together well.

T: Comes on with an almost-sweet citric quality that quickly reveals more of a clove note through the mid palate. Banana is present but very much in the background. There is a growing yeast character throughout the palate which really comes into focus during the brief finish. Well-balanced.

M: Moderate carb married to a light, creamy body. Finishes just a touch sticky but overall quite crisp & refreshing.

O: Exceptionally balanced & understated. Really very nice.

A very pleased looking monk, rubbing his belly in approval after quaffing a stein of this brew. Poured into a Franziskaner Hefe glass.

Appearance: Amber, cloudy as per the style. Nice head that seems to hold all the way down the glass, no major lacing to speak of.

Smell: Clove and banana, more banana. Very pleasant yeast notes. Slight fruits, maybe a little lemon in there too.

Taste: Very light hops to begin, soon taken over by a lovely chalky, banana & clove flavour. Finishes dry and ever so slightly bitter.

Mouth-feel: Medium body with a decent carbonation and very light on the palate. Wonderfully refreshing.

Overall: A great example of the style, certainly one of the best in my area and readily available too! A beer that I will revisit again.

Bought from Liquor Collection $3.25 16.9 oz bottle
Hazy orange amber color
High carbonation
Medium-heavy mouth feel
Citrus wheaty banana taste, slight tart aftertaste
Overall a very nice hefeweizen. Would drink more if the price was lower, but nice to have on occasion

This was the first Hefeweizen I ever tried. I love everything about it. Cloudy pour, banana/clove smell and taste, tons of carbonation. I drink it year round. I would give it all fives, but nothing can be perfect. I know it's owned by InBev, and I don't care. Great beer.

Paid 9 bucks for this a few months ago at a local bar.
Taste was bland with just a little kick of hops and a hint of banana in the smell.
This was easy drinking but not memorable. Definitely not worth 9 bucks.

500 ml bottle served cold into a hefe glass. Purchased while visiting New York State. I think this is pretty much the last German hefe that needs to be tried in order to have enjoyed all of the ones that are reasonably accessible. From the solid hefes of Erdinger and Schoffehoffer to the quality of Schneider Weisse and Paulaner and Maisel's Weisse, the outstanding offerings from Hacker-Pschorr and Ayinger and the sheer brilliance and excellence of Weihenstephaner, trying this hefe from Franziskaner will round these out nicely.

Appearance - Pours a reasonably clear golden colored beer, more clarity than others I've enjoyed. Big billowing three fingers of white head rest on top and coalesce into an inch of thick creaminess. Some lively action on the bubbles from within and a couple traces of sediment floating throughout the beer. Head retention not quite as epic as some of those listed above but beautiful looking all the same.

Smell - Signature banana and clove although slightly muted as the wheat chaff and an element of pepper shine through as well. Complex and enticing.

Taste - A little banana and then some bubble gum. Creamy wheat and clove follow behind.Flavors not as intense as some but still really good. A slightly spicy finish at the close. Some yeastiness shins through as the beer warms slightly

Mouthfeel - Smooth and creamy with prickly carbonation that borders on gassy. Body is super light and easy to drink capturing the mouthfeel of the best hefes quite well.

Overall - An excellent hefe, easy to drink and full of subtlety that's difficult to describe. On my pantheon its probably doesn't quite match up with Ayinger, but it's not far off. Lives up to it's reputation as one of the best.

Hazy yellow, almost a copper-amber with a nice foamy head. Flakes of sediment floating freely. Smells doughy and almost sour, slightly zesty and spicy, nice and crisp.

Banana nut bread flavours with some yeast, malts and spices. Slightly tangy and sweet. Good amount of carbonation but still smooth on the tongue. Pretty tasty.

An excellent take on the style, one of the better Hefe's I've had.

I love this beer. It's a great wheat beer that never lets you down. I enjoy the flavor and a rich, full body. The color in a glass is almost an amber while the dunkel is more of a dark brown. It's very smooth and not overpowering of any food you might get to partner with it.

Very hazy. Fabulous colour: rich, golden, orange. Two finger, foamy white head that unfortunately recedes with some haste.

Yeasty nose. Floral. Orange blossom. Very pleasant.

Citrus and cloves. Gentle spiciness. Subtle. Super refreshing.

Mouthfeel is not as full as some wheat beers. Spiciness is dialed back as well. Makes it extremely drinkable, if a little less complex.

Really great wheat beer. Extremely easy to drink.

Poured this into a fancy beer drinking glass, it pours a nice deep yellow almost orange color. Very thick foam head, so thick I could not pour the entire bottle into the glass in one go.
Has a fruity smell to it.
Tastes great, sweet and malty, hint of banana.
Feels as great as it tastes, smooth, creamy, delicious.
Overall I picked this up on a whim at my local party store and I am quite happy with this purchase.

Poured 12oz bottle into snifter glass. 5% abv

Appearance- Pours a hazy honey yellow with a lofty white head that lasts. Quite cloudy.

Smell- Sweet banana bread, yeasty sweetness, light spice

Taste- Sweet, sugary yeasty falvor blends with a dry crackery malt with good hints of wheat. A banana-like quality, characteristic of a good hefe builds up mid way through the taste along with the wheat. The bready malt also persists into the finish before leaving with a light clove spice note.

Mouthfeel- Medium body with high carbonation.

Overall- A well balanced and refreshing hefe for sure. Very high drinkability. A solid german

Yeasty, banana flavoured and a little spicy. This beer also has subtle citrus undertones and fresh bread tastes. The appearance is beautiful. Opaque amber with vigorous carbonation and outstanding head retention and lacing.Simple but wonderful aroma of yeast, cloves and bread crust.

A really satisfying tasty beer at just 5 per cent alcohol. The drinkablility is very high. I will have to revisit Weihenstaphenar Hefe to see if its better than this.

I normally prefer lagers for this kind of thirst quenching moderate abv but this hefe is worth trying even for a non hefe fan.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a weizen glass
LOOK: Pours with an egregious five finger's worth of white foam that finally cuts down to two finger's after two and a half minutes. Full yellow in color with moderate clouding. Rising bubbles are still in great amounts once head settles. Lacing is thick and high.
SMELL: Strange. Strong sour yeast and mild earthy yeast got the nose up front. It's difficult to detect the subtle banana, wheat, and clove aromas that lie underneath.
TASTE: Initial taste is of mild sour yeast and banana flavors that combine with subtle flavors of cloves. Mild wheat flavors and lemony zest enter immideately after. A hint of earthy yeast closes this flavor symphony as all previous flavors continue in strength.
FEEL: Medium-bodied with hints of carbonation. Goes down smooth and ends with an extremely crisp finish.
NOTE: Sour yeast flavors were amazing for this style. Banana flavors could of been a little bit stronger. Cloves can stay right they are. A well done Hefeweizen with a taste unique to this specific brew. Definitely not a generic form of the style.

Really good Hefeweizen. Pours out with a really nice thick creamy white head, with the body being a golden haze. Really beautiful hefe. Strong aroma of banana, yeast, clove, and citrus which correlates with the taste. Great creamy mouth full that I look forward too. Great hefe. I really enjoy this beer.
