Pretty standard Hefeweizen look and smell. I like the taste of this one in particular, but I find that it's a bit too carbonated, making the mouthfeel a bit too airy.

Had on tap in Munich, poured into a weiss glass.

L: Cloudy golden pour with thick white head. Nice lacing.

S: Grains and yeast. Citrus and coriander.

T/F: Typical weiss beer. Complex yeast flavors... bananas and citrus with spices mixed in like thyme and coriander. Heavily carbonated and zesty.

O: Probably the most recognizable German wheat beer. Better on draft and what I use as a baseline comparison for the style.

A very good Hefe-Weisse. I would rank it second out of ones I've tried after the Konig-Ludwig. It has a medium body, a pleasant smell and a well rounded flavor with a slightly tangy aftertaste.

My other favorite beer of all time (I can have more than one!), I have loved Franziskaner for years. It was one of the first imports I tried after drinking mostly Pabst and domestic stuff during my teen party years.

Bar pint glass. Hazy, golden color. Malty and foamy head. Spice and banana hints. Excellent lacing. Tastes best cool, not cold. In the top 10 on my list.

I've had many German Hefe's and while not the BEST it's about as good as it gets in the US. Not like most American canoe beer that is "kinda like having sex in a canoe, it's pretty close to water" (the American beer that is) This is welcome reminder of what beer is supposed to taste like ;)

Perhaps my favorite Hefe, because it's the oldest, from brewer started in 1323. Full of fruit, no lemon needed.

A - On draft in Luxembourg. Very cloudy pale wheat color with creamy half inch head that fades to a steady cap and leaves lotsa lacing.

S - Smells of mostly banana, a bit of pineapple, biscuit, clove, and spices. Slightly medicinal.

T - Crisp wheat bready flavor. Spices dominate, of clove and and a bit of cardamom and cinnamon. Backdrop of banana and fruity flavors.

M - Good weight, and it's crisp and smooth.

O. Not my favorite style, but one of the best.

Hazy golden orange color. Fluffy white half inch head, good retention and lacing. The aroma was banana, clove and light bubblegum. The flavor was big banana and clove and just a nice hint of orange, with a nice sweet malt backbone. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with a nice clean and refreshing finish. Definitely a top notch Hefeweizen.

On tap, poured into a shaker. The aroma is a bright, creamy banana and vanilla with undertones of clove and a light bread crust. The beer is a murky, unfiltered, orange yellow color with a dense white fluff head that has a moderate retention and only a touch of lace (of course a shaker isn't really the appropriate glass). The taste is a medium, savory sweet with a light lemon bitter. The creamy beer goes down smooth with a fizzy light body that has a strong Nila wafer flavor with a clove finish as well as some bread. The aftertaste is mild, but long, and cloying with a light bitterness and bread crust feel.

Up there with Weihenstephaner as my favorite hefeweizen.

Franziskaner is simply one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted. It has a cloudy orange-yellow look to it which is typical of most wheat beers. The smell is mostly banana and breadiness with a hint of almost shortbread cookie sweetness underlying this. The taste of Franziskaner is where it really excels. This beer is remarkably smooth and drinkable. Banana, vanilla, and light orange peel blend together into one of the most velvety sips of beer I've ever had. Definitely better on tap.

16.9 oz bottle. Cloudy, opaque, yellow-orange with a creamy white head. Grainy wheat malt in the aroma mixed with banana. Not much clove at all. Vanilla and bubblegum in the flavor. Thin on the palate, yet medium bodied. Overall, it's a little too fruity and thin for me. Not one of my favorites German hefeweizens but not a bad option either.

look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4

Appearance: Hazy pale orange color with a two finger frothy white head

Smell: Heavy bubblegum right off; Cloves, banana, yeast

Taste: Bubblegum and cloves upfront, banana mid palate, with a clove and yeasty aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Light medium body; Goes down smooth and crisp, and is very refreshing as a hefe should be.

Overall: I use to dislike wheat beers, but i have develped a fondness for a good weizen during the spring and summer months. This style is likely the first beer ill be drinking for the evening to refresh me after a hard days work. This is a solid authentic german weizen, but its a little too heavy on the bubblegum to be a favorite. There are a few others id pick before this, including Weihenstephan and Paulaner.

Feel: well carbonated, tangy, nice and dry.

Overall: a classic, well-executed representation of a Hefe. Well done.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a hefeweizen glass.

Appearance: Opaque cloudy straw colour with a two-finger head. Decent retention with brilliant lacing.

Aroma: Bread and yeast with hints of estery banana and phenolic cloves.

Taste: Follows the nose, with a bit more banana flavour on the forefront balanced by big wheat flavour. Some citrus notes.

Mouthfeel: Medium body which lightly coats the mouth and throat, with plenty of carbonation. Very drinkable.

Overall: This was my second European wheat ale (after Hoegaarden witbier) and it still holds up great. Very impressive brew with good balance of bready yeasts and fruit flavours. This one is always a pleasurable experience.

EDIT 17/03/2016: my original scores were a bit too critical. This remains to date my favourite European ale of those that I have had. This is an absolutely indispensible hefe, and no others I have had from the style even come close. This is perhaps as close to perfect as is possible.

Not a bad hefe at all but a little too much carbonation and not enough banana flavor to get a flawless score from me. I would definately drink it again but I think I like Sierra Nevada kellerweis better and even hoffbrau.

Hazy, golden orange appearance. Wonderful, towering, billowing, white smoke-like head. Excellent retention. Produces a few lace patches.

Aroma of fresh wheat, yeast and citrus with a mild spice. Perfect.

Flavor follows the nose almost to a T with just a tad more yeast quality. Can detect some cloves, pepper and coriander.

Medium bodied. Snappy carbonation. Crisp finish.

Very well crafted hefeweizen.

Reminds me of my journeys in Deutschland! One of the few beers that tastes identical here as it does there that's readily accessible. For those reasons, it's my favorite and go to German beer!

Poured from 12oz bottle into hefe glass.

A: A hazy dark straw color with huge foam that doesn't want to subside. Small bubbles keep the foam on.

S: Beautiful yeast, spices and wheat in the smell.

T: Malt, spice, yeast with very light hops. Some sweet and spice in the aftertaste.

M: Light mouthfeel with good carbonation.

O: Excellently executed, refreshing to drink

I got this the other day because the store was out of Paulaner. The store guy recommended it. No comparison to Paulaner. too much hint of alcohol in taste. Did not taste like a wheat beer to me.

I've seen this in the store a lot. Finally decided to give it a shot, except that it's on-tap. Here goes:

A: Not that inviting. Very cloudy amber - looks exactly like apple cider with a head. Leaves good lacing, though.

S: Lots of...banana. Really a ton of banana. Accompanied by coriander, clove and lighter spices.

T: Follows the nose, except with the addition of bready yeast. Lots of banana and coriander followed by bready yeast; it almost tastes like a Belgian beer.

F: Nice and bready. Good.

O: Good beer, but I'd rather have a Belgian wit.

A: Golden and clear with a slight haze and eeeeenormous well-retained head with bubbles out the wazoo. (3/3)
S: Solid wheat aroma with hints of metal and black pepper. (9/12)
T: Just a little bit of sweetness to balance the wheat Spice and oh my god what a smooth finish. (16/20)
M: Very bubbly and just a little dry on the finish. (5/5)
O: This beer traveled really well and I detect very little in the skunk or cardboard range. Really can't get it over how clean that finish is given the wheat power on the front. Not quite a fin du monde or weihenstephaner in my book but still solid. (8/10)

Served in a new Bells wheat glass. Really great at bringing out the aromas.

Pours a nice orange two finger frothy white head that stays put. Typical hefe aromas of banana, cinnamon, bubblegum, maybe a hint of lemon. Taste of doughy wheat bread, banana, yeast, and not much else. Pretty vague. Decent carbonation with a light-body.

Typical German style hefe. Good but not great.

Cheers!
