Poured from 500ml bottle with freshness date nine months away. This is cloudy golden beer with a decent head. The nose is strong and dominated by banana. It's a little chalky with a hint of pineapple.

This is quite well carbonated and begins quite sweetly before a hit of banana and then a rather earthy, bready spell before a return to a more muted banana in the aftertaste. Hefeweizens are something of an acquired taste for me (it took me a decade to grudgingly accept them) but this seems immediately attractive from the aroma and the first sip. There's certainly nothing to complain about.

This my first German hefe. Served in a weizen glass very cold.

Appearance: definitely on the darker side for hefe's. 3 inch head that did not leave very much if any lacing.

Smell: Banana, clove, seltzer, mild citrus, no hops. I liked how the wheat was not in your face.

Taste: I thought it was going to be a wheat bomb but the wheat was very subdued. A very big plus for me as too much wheat can take on the aftertaste of cereal. More banana, effervescence, touch of vanilla and bubblegum.

Overall: I am impressed with this beer and could definitely see this as a summer beer in my rotation. Good job!

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Thank you to my brother for bringing this one back from Germany for me.

Appearance: Clear yellow with a thick white head. Mild lacing on the glass.

Smell: Strong smell of cloves and grassy notes.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Very smooth light bodied. Taste of cloves, wheat and mild hops.

Overall: Not a bad Hefeweizen. I would have loved to have actually had this in Germany, but getting right from Germany will do!

Delicious, sweet aroma, with neutral characteristics to the palate amazes me since the ABV is 5%. Hazy for its pour and banana like nuances really compliments savory (with pasta) as well as dessert dishes (like a bananas foster). I love the Bavarian purity law, as it shows in the quality of the brew. I would be hard pressed to find a similar beer in this category at this rating. You always remember your first Fraziskaner.

Lot code L114316

A. Hazy light orange to dark straw appearance with a white, puffy head that slowly recedes. Classic looking.

S. Hefe notes of spice, yeast and malt.

T. Banana and clove followed by bready malt.

M. Light bodied with nice spritz of tingly carbonation on back end.

O. Easy drinking beer that would be great on hot days.

I completely agree with Bucannon XC5. I have had this beer a few times in the past but I was just enjoying and not rating. A German friend introduced me to the beer, I was much more impressed then than now but it is still an interestingly good beer. Drinking alal these great PNW craft beers lowered it's standing a bit with me.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Pilsner glass
From: BevMo in La Mesa (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $1.69
Purchased: Sept. 26, 2013
Consumed: Sept. 29, 2013
Misc.: N/A

Poured a lemon straw hazy color with four fingers of bubbly off-white head. Sporadic amount of foamy lacing on the sides. Lots of retention on the top.

Initially smelled a heavy mix of cloves and alcohol. Reminded me of a hefeweizen mixed with a pilsner. Bananas, Circus Peanuts, cloves, apple, kiwi and honey. The nose got better as it went down.

Taste wasn’t as flavorful as the nose, but still good. Banana bread, banana, cloves, Circus Peanuts, sour apple, kiwi and honey wheat grass.

Light body. Thin-to-oily texture. Lively carbonation. Long, refreshing finish.

A pretty good beer. I’d have it again for sure.

One of my favorite beers, very fully-tasted, a great wheat taste, not yet (that) strong. A nice 'wheaty' smell, great mouth feel. Darker with a stronger taste than 'whiter' wheat beers, recommended to follow after drinking whiter/clearer one(s) or not to follow this one with on of those. Like a lot the simpleness of the presentation, with a drunken brewer monk and the golden, black and white colors.

Beautiful golden brown with a bit of cloudiness. Nice foamy head that seems to hang in there. Typical banana smell for this type of beer, with a hint of something else I can't place. Wonderful wheaty flavor with hints of banana and caramel. Carbonation perfect as it lingers on the tongue just long enough to get your attention. I really enjoy this style of beer and this one delivers like may other german Hefe's. Not my absolute favorite hefe but I would certainly purchase again. I nice flavorful Beer.

This hefeweizen pours a golden color with a large head with excellent retention. The smell is all about the wheat and some citrus. Flavors of wheat, yeast, and some coriander and banana are muted, and you won't taste much more than the wheat unless the beer has warmed up a bit. The taste is pleasant, but this could be described as a delicate beer, as they don't hit you as strongly as in my hefeweizens, and it may because the wheat flavor is so strong that some of the ingredients are concealed. Spice is minimal. This is a creamy beer, and its thickness is a bit unusual for the style. There's some crispness there as well, but overall the mouthfeel just doesn't quite work for me, although many who generally avoid wheat ales may find the mouthfeel quite nice.

Foggy, as is distinct of the unfiltered german brewing style
Pale (almost mahogany) brown

Very subtle citrus and spice.
Does not give out the full fragrance suggestive of it's taste. There is a lot more to this brew than meets the the nose...

Caramel crunch at the tip of the tongue.
Subtle off-dry banana medium-light-body.
Inter-woven light melange of spices which keeps you guessing for specifics...
My guesses - distinct bay leaf and hints of cinnamon+asafoetida

A: Golden opaque color with a very foamy head that lasted very long. It just would not go away. Loved that.

S: I could smell wheat. And that was accented by pale notes of citrus. Very pale. Wheat overpowers.

T: WOW! Love the wheat. Where I expected something strong, came this lighter, more soft wheat taste. It is exceptional. You can taste a small amount of citrus... but again... it is overpowered.

M: Light. Not airy. Seemed to be the thickness of the beer that made any strong impression. Liked the lightness of the alcohol.

O: I must get this again. This beer is fantastic. Much better than what I expected. Coming from Spaten, sometimes you expect stronger more defined flavor, this was much more delicate and light. Loved it.

A) A rather pale golden color with a nice foamy head that persisted longer than I expected.

S) Wheat, and a lovely amount. I thought there was another smell, but I couldn't nail it down due to the strong wheatiness.

T) Not as strong as I thought it would be. The wheat was definitely prevalent. The hops added a subtle bitter taste, nowhere near being overpowering.

M) Light, smooth, and delicate. light body; surprising to an extent.

O) A solid beer. Met my expectations on everything but the taste. I had hoped for something that would present itself stronger; however, the tastes were harder to sort out.

I bought this beer yesterday in Belgium when i was at Dranken Geers near Gent. I always like this type of beer in summer and today the summer starts!

Poured in the original glass i have for many years. Nice thich white head which disappears slowly leaving a small head on top of the cloudy yellow fluid. Smell of banana what you smell more in these type of beer.

Nice drinkable beer. Not the best i ever had but one of the beers which make Germany a great beercountry.

Bottle poured into a beer stein

Pours an amazingly strong head of beer as appropriate to the style. Hazy yellow orange appearance. No visible carbonation.

Spicy clove aroma with a sweet banana finish.

Classic wheat beer taste , mild cloves and banana aftertaste. Light to light medium mouthfeel. Refreshing, clean, delicious.

Bought at People's Liquour Warehouse in Fall River

Poured from bottle to pint glass

Not sure of freshness and review might not be completely accurate as it is somewhere between cold and room temperature.

Appearance: Exactly as you'd expect from the style. Cloudy golden orange. Poured a nice two finger foamy head that dissipated rather quickly leaving a nice ring around the outside. Tiny bubbles. No lacing

Aroma: Wheat, cloves, faint banana

Taste: Follows the nose. Clove heavy (maybe since it's room temp), crisp wheat, very subdued banana at first - more flavor towards the bottom seemingly

Mouthfeel: Crisp, light, somewhat creamy

Overall: Great example of a true heffeweizen. I feel like a lot of American heffe's miss their mark. Personally, I'm a fan of the style and like to try a new one when I see it. Have yet to be disappointed by a German heffe. Would definitely revisit this one

I'm not generally a wheat beer kind of guy but this beer has the potential to change that. Excellent from the tap-haven't tried it from the bottle. Came across as light and refreshing without lacking in character. Very drinkable, I highly recommend.

Appearance: Pour is a hazy and cloudy and darker straw colors with a big t finger head with great retention

Smell: Smell mlike malt with a fair presence of some cloves and banana withht citric presence, .

Taste: Banana presence and some slight bitterness in the back just balances it all out. This beer is high ion my list !

Mouthfeel: Body is between medium and light nd the carbonation is strong, without being shapr and it is smooth when it goes down

Overall: t. A awesome beer with great flavors; body is light so it weight me down. It is not highly watered down. I love Hefeweizen beer !

A- It pours a cloudy amber with a large White head. Head retention is good. Bits of the head cling to the glass as I take a sip.

S- Bready and yeasty, clove, spicy. very earthy as well, I almost get a touch of smoke from it.

T- Citrus, yeast, clove, wheat, banana. Surprisingly refreshing.

M- light bodied. Carbonation is moderate. Once again, refreshing.

O- I'm reletively new to wheat beer, but this is pretty good

Franziskaner Weissbier is an exemplary beer for its category. It is the ultimate white beer in my opinion. It has a soft, mild flavor that isn’t bitter at all. In fact, I’d suggest this beer to anyone who doesn’t ordinarily choose beer because they don’t like bitter flavors. That’s not to say it has less flavor. It still has a gently sweet wheat taste that holds the attention without dominating the palate.

This beer pairs well with traditional German food of course and anything that’s not extremely spicy or strongly flavored.

Frafziskaner is near the very top of my list of favorite beers.

Appearance: very hazy, big fluffy white head, golden yellow with orange tint

Aroma: lemony citrus, banana, clove, light summery aroma,

Taste: balanced flavor, banana and subtle clove taste, with a malt backbone that really stands up without being overly heavy,

Mouthfeel: a little prickly but with a smooth finish, light-medium body

Overall Impression: A refreshingly light German hefe that is very well balanced and smooth to the swallow. Residual tingles remain in mouth beckoning for another swig.

A - cloudy gold, giant white 3 finger head, long retention

S - banana, spice that is not necessarily clove, but close I guess. tiny bit of bubblegum.

T - 2 notes 1) That classic, yeasty banana hefeweizen taste, white/wheat bread, with 2) a touch of gross processed sweet bubblegum. makes it too sweet for the style. 3.25 on taste.

M - light, almost crisp, a little sticky sweet, strong refreshing carbonation.

Overall, disappointed in the taste. Surprised by that fake sweet bubblegum stuff.

Yellow beer, hazy, thick off white head that really holds its own in the retention category. Lacing category is just average. Aroma is a familiar yeast of hefeweizen proportions: banana, mild clove and spice accoutrement.

Taste, more banana, mild bandaid with pepper cloves. Mild wheat and barley malt base, nothing heavy. A little gritty on the teeth. Heavy amount of carbonation throughout the entire lifespan of the beer. Bready but not doughy. Residual sweetness, but not cloying. Citrus seems to be around it, some grapefruit and banana seem to be the most noticeable fruit like flavors.

Wheat character is not lost on the beer, keeps the mouthfeel like, has the stickyness along with the yeast on the teeth. Has enough yeasty esters and banana to keep traditionalists happy. I'm good for about 4-6oz of this, but after that, its just too much of why I'm not big on hefeweizens: bananas, yeast and clove are best in small quantities.

Purchased at BevMo. Pale gold color and very cloudy. Thin white head, doesn't sustain long. Aromatics are citrusy and earthy and yeasty. Faint aroma of banana too. Taste is quite crisp and refreshing. Light flavors of banana and clove. Smooth body and easy drinking.
