A- Very nice appearance. The color is rich, root beer like, although paler than other dunkel Weissbier. Head is thick, rich and long lasting.

S- Smell is enjoyable. Touch of caramel and spices. The smell is stronger than the taste.

M- Although there is a lot of carbonation, the beer is easy to drink, almost too easy. The taste is very subtle, almost absent. The rich smell gives us false expectation.

O- I would recommend this beer for an easy drink. Would have expected more taste from a Franziskaner.

Hefe-Weisse Dunkel pours a dark brown color, with a nice size lasting head; almost looks like a root beer. Their is a strong malt and yeast aroma. The taste has a solid malt backbone, and a nice bitterness, and dryness. Good full flavor. Overall a decent Dunkel, enjoyable but not the best.

imperial pint shared with my gf, poured into a tasting glass. lot number marked but no dates.

a - pours a deep chestnut color and forms a thin cap of sudsy, tan head. retention is good and the foam leaves thin legs of lacing in the glass.

s - banana, clove, candi sugar, faint bubblegum.

t - cinnamon and clove spice dominate the palate, but are supported by carmel malt and an earthy hop bitterness. faint apple notes in there too. finishes with more spice and a light bittersweetness.

m - lighter in body with too much carbonation for my liking. coarse co2 profile.

o - lots of flavor and seems to be a good representation of the style, i just didn't enjoy it very much. probably won't be purchasing this one again.

Review from 3/2010 notes. Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a hazy medium brown amber with a two finger light tan head and lacing. Aroma of wheat, banana and clove. A refreshing wheat beer with a good balance of wheat, yeast, malt and just the right light spiciness. Fairly dry in the middle and finish. A very nice dunkelweizen.
