Pours a clear deep mahogany brown producing 2+ fingers of tan, frothy, shortlived head that leaves a few motes & streaks of lace, a thin surface cap & collar. Very malty as expected. Aroma is dark fruity, dark bread, baked sweet potato, roasted nuts, molasses, anise, chocolate & vanilla with back ground hints of char & thin sour. Taste is sweet, fresh cut pumpernickel, toffee, brown sugar, roast, prune, raisin, fig, sweet potato, licorice & pepper. The sip has a peppery spiciness in the sweet potato, fruity, chocolate & lightly boozy finish. Fruit, molasses & toffee mix with a hint of hop bitterness make up the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied with moderate-high carbonation, mouth coating with a sandy, tongue crawling, creamy & chewy into the finish gliding smooth into the aftertaste. Very good quality for the price.

really a perfect dark German beer. I love the full body and flavor, gives a boozy feel without being overly boozy.

Pours a clear brown color that becomes darker in the glass. Dark mahogany and hint of ruby. A modest frothy layer of film dissipates, but leaves a thin ring and some lacing that retains well.
In the nose there is a lot of sweetness, ranging from a hint of chocolate, raisins, dark amber malts, toffee and caramel. Bready and toasty with a touch of licorice and alcohol.
Like the nose, the taste is sweet with a rich and creamy malt base that imparts flavors of toffee, caramel, chocolate and raisins. The alcohol is very well hidden and a faint touch of peppery hops adds balance and a dryness to the finish.
Soft and gentle mouthfeel. Dynamic in how it is overall medium bodied, yet, drinks light, and even further still, has a supple malt fullness that is buttery and dessert like.
A nice example of the style that I would gladly have again.

Sum is greater than the parts. Next to Celebrator this is very good.
a) Pours clear dark reddish brown with a loose one inch tan head, decently thick with filmy retention and low hanging lacing.
s) Very sweet with prune, plum predominant. Malts of course, fall earth, orchard. Gets better as it warms
t) Grows more flavorful following the aromas - prune, plum, cherry, slightly over ripe orchard, dark malts. Mystery and fun.
f) Creamy and heavier for a german brew. Very pleasant. Try 12.

If you like a dark malt, with a strong alcohol smell and taste this beer is for you. The beer is boarding a trippel classification. The beer tops off with a strong brown one to two finger head. The coloration is extremely dark and difficult to see the carbonation. Yes, the beer is malty, with a nutty influence. Did not detect and fruity essence. For a doppelbock too many variables are lost in the overwhelming malty alcohol influences. Those lost elements are chocolate and fruitiness.

I shouldn't like this beer but I do. A solid German brew with enough good things going on that you'll want two. Or three. A tasty change from my usual hoppy IPA choices. If you are in the mood for an excellent dark malty beer with no hoppy over/undertones this is the beer to try.

Pours a clear cola like dark brown and is covered by one finger of tan head that leaves fairly good lacing.

The aroma is moderate and malty. Sweet caramel, some dark fruit and a little yeast. Taste is sweet but cleans up a bit for a tangy finish. Plenty of caramel malt, bread, a touch of roast and small but detectable hop character round out the flavors. The body is medium and soft with low carbonation.

A solid Doppelbock in my opinion.
