Bottle poured into a pint.

This beer pours a deep and dark reddish brown that is rich in both aroma and appearance. The head on this beer lingered for quite a while. The aroma of this beer is extremely sweet molasses like scents with a touch of husky grain and some plum. The beer is intensely delicious with flavors of burnt sugars and grain with a heavy dose of molasses. The finish is slightly bitter but almost overpowered by the sugary sweet raisin and fruit flavors. There is a lingering taste that is almost how a cigarette leaves your mouth. It is a mildly stale and burnt taste. The mouthfeel is heavy and thick and a little chewy which is exactly what I want for this type of beer. Overall this is a really good Doppelbock and a beer I could enjoy any time.

11.2 fl oz bottle served in a pint glass:
A - Pours an incredibly dark ruby/amber color that's transparent when held to the light. It has a soapy head of 2 fingers, and retention is solid.

S - Strong malty goodness, cotton candy, and fruity esters abound. Medium strength.

T - Full malt foundation gives way to candy, fruity and peppery notes. Finishes with a nice ethanol bite. Not as yeasty as the nose predicted, but built well for the style. I wish it had a bit more character though.

M - Nearly full bodied, slick and smooth, Carbonated rather highly. Contradicts the flavors.

D - A good beer within the style, but I think it lacks character. I'd have it again, but certainly not a go-to.

A: An extremely dark Doppelbock; pours translucent caramel brown with a one-finger head. Head resolves almost immediately but leaves behind some decent lacing.

S: Powerful caramel, with the strong scent of dark fruits. Quite lagery...

T: I'm not a big lager-drinker, so I found this a tad weak. Hits the palate with caramel and brown sugar, resolving with a little bit of fruit and spice. One of the better-tasting lagers I've had; certainly more complex than many. Almost tastes like a scotch ale.

M: Crisp with a warm alcoholic finish. This one leaves a spicy tang in your mouth for a few minutes, and isn't as drinkable as other lagers. No shit, though, it's a double.

O: I'm not a lager drinker, and I wouldn't buy this again. That said, I could certainly see myself downing one or two after a long day of skiing. A solid winter lager.
