Brown where light passes through the center of the glass. Clear. Large bubbly head which dissipates rapidly to rim bubbles. A single spot for lace.
Sweet caramel nose with a touch of chocolate.
This is an extraordinarily sweet beer. It could compete with a doppelbock but doesn't have the richness. The carbonation is also elevated. The finish is like a chocolates candy.

by chinchill from South Carolina
From a 330 cc bottle in Valpairiso Chile.
Lovely clear, red-brown body with a good before head..
This is a mild, fairly typical schwarzbier, if a bit sweeter than usual.
Better aroma than flavor (too sweet)
Medium-light body and carbonation.

Clear caramel reddish-brown with a large, beige foam.
This delivers notes of toasty but sweet caramel malt, cocoa, brown sugar and raisin bread via a soft, smooth body.

Super sugary and not much else. A disappointment given that their regular malt is decent.

This is the beer that made me love beer. First encountered it during a study abroad in Peru and was drank exclusively after hard days of field excavation in Ica.

Marketed as a "Dark Lager" it's more like a sweet porter. Color is typical of a lighter porter, not quite as dark as most stouts. While there are some roasty notes, the sweetness overwhelms pretty much anything else that might be going on (honestly, I don't think there's a whole lot going on). Minimal hops presence. Body is a little thicker than average, probably thanks to all the sugar, but unremarkable mouthfeel. OK for a few sips, but got old quick.

Honestly, not that bad of a beer at all. Sweet, toffee-ish flavors; solid texture. Very good with food.

This is my favorite beer in the world. It may be looked down upon by connisseurs for tasting too sweet, but it's very distinctive and the taste itself is a great memento of my travels throughout Peru, including Cusco where I first had this wonderful beer. While Cusqueña is one of Peru's most ubiquitous brands, this dark product of theirs is hardest to find -- but always well worth the search. I am desperate to find it for sale in the Washington, D.C. area, and would buy up cases to fill my pantry if I could!
