375ml bottle poured into a 16oz tulip.
A - No head, just some bubbles. Pitch black. Lacing for a little while, but nothing substantial.
S - Acetone, licorice, alcohol, and some light roasted malt. A little too phenolic for my liking.
T - Thankfully this RIS tastes better than it smells. Starts off a little sweet with some dark chocolate and licorice, and finishes with roasted malt, espresso, and prevalent woody character. Bitterness is there, but not a lot. Low hop presence keeps the astringency light. A little phenolic, but actual quite roasty and sweet at the same time. Alcohol is disguised fairly well, but not perfectly. Decent smokey presence in the aftertaste, with some tobacco and cocoa.
M - Hardly any carbonation, if any present at all. Thick body, very full feeling. Viscous, fairly smooth, with a bit of warmth in the finish.
D - I'm not too familiar with RISs, with this only being my second, but I get the feeling this isn't very typical of the style. I don't know if the bottle was a little off, but that seems to be my excuse every time I don't enjoy a beer as much as I thought I would. Maybe it's just not very good? Either way, I probably won't be revisiting this one in the near future. It was decent, just a little off. Maybe something to re-review down the road, but no time soon.
EDIT: Having another bottle of this right now (09/06/12) and it's still the exact same underwhelming crap.

appearance- Pitch black body with a 3 finger frothy mocha head
smell- I get pine, lickerish, shisha tobacco, molasses, roasted malts and some alcohol
taste- upfront i get lickerish and coffee and some chocolate then in the middle i get the roasted malts and then on the back end there is a nice bitterness and a hint of alcohol. Not as complex as the smell but still tasty.
Mouthfeel is medium with very low carbonation. I really wish the carbonation was a bit higher on this beer.
Overall- This was a pretty nice imperial stout. Loved the smell on this one. Very complex. I personally dont think its worth the $8.99 for a 375ml bottle but still a pretty good stout none the less.

A fat head that reduces quickly. Leaves a little lacing.
Unique aroma, a little fruity with a lot of black licorice.
Licorice with a little bitterness.
Not as heavy as most RIS, goes down pretty smooth
Hides the ABV well. Not your traditional RIS, which I think is a good thing.

A - pitch black with some light sediment, one thumb of bubbly mocha head left a solid ring of lacing
S - very strong burnt aromas, black licorice and chocolate, with a chemically odour
T - strong black licorice and coffee, burnt roasty malt, and some phenolic flavour
M - thinner than I expected, a little chalky with some alcohol bite, more like a strong porter feel
D - the flavours are unique but a little on the different side with a chemical and phenolic slant, enjoyable but not what I'm looking for in a strong stout

A - Pours dark brown, but in the glass it's pitch black. Thin layer of mocha coloured head with little retention and no lacing.
S - Sweet honey and molasses, a bit of a nuttiness to it and some roasted coffee beans and chocolate malts on the finish.
T - Dark cocoa flavours dominate, light espresso with a bit of a musty wood / peat flavour. Touch of tobacco and grassy hops as it warms. The sweet alcohol is noticeable, but not offensive.
M - The pour seemed thick, but it was medium bodied, went down smooth and finished with a touch of dryness.
D - Pretty tasty with some unique flavours. The cocoa dominated over the coffee on this one and the ABV was relatively well hidden. Not quite worth the price tag, IMO, but still tasty nonetheless.

Green, corked and wired bottle, pours like a cola with half inch or less tan head, slowly retreats leaving a cloudy mid-centre patch and a solid ring. Slippery lace. Smell is of black licorice and roasted malt, some burnt coffee. Taste is bitter espresso, strong coffee, very dry on the palette. The dryness is accentuated by an extremely long finish that isn't as pleasing as I'd like it to be. Still, the essentials seem to be there, balance might be a bit off, taste is a four with the benefit of doubt. Body is a bit thin, not as chewy as it might be, somehow I expected more although it's an interesting RIS just the same.

A- An aggresive pour only gives me a fingers width of a creamy mocha looking head. What little head there is, it's sticking around for awhile and it left a decent wall of lace to boot. The body is ink jet black, looks like a solid RIS to me.
S- Nice roasted malt aroma, dark chocolate, burnt coffee, black licorice and some citrus hops. Alcohol is noticeable, but overall a complex aroma for a RIS.
T- Really bold flavors in this one. Loads of roasted chocolate malt, woody-char, lingering coffee/hop biterness. The alcohol is covered up nicely.
M- I like my Imperial Stouts a little fuller and chewier. Carbonation is average.
D- Different but I enjoyed the heck out of this one. My 3rd from Raasted and I liked them all.

Deep black-ruby colour and a surprisingly white head for the style.
Woody, metallic scent. Roasted malts, bitter black coffee and dark cocoa. Very astringent, even for an RIS.
Really woody malt taste. Slight metallic tinge. Cocoa, dark chocolate, wine and coffee. Oak hints. This also seems a bit hoppy for the style.
Good carbonation, though a bit bitter to drink.

Popped the plastic cork on this one expecting a pop but nothing, at first I was a little concerned that the integrity of the cork was compromised. A rigorous pour produced a decent one and a half finger head on a motor oil black brew.
I was not expecting the smell I got when I deeply inhaled. Sour and bitter citrus with maybe a slight hint of malt. If I did not know any better I thought I was smelling a black IPA, it's just not as strong as a black IPA.
At first I taste the citrus, a slight sour note with a bitter aftertaste. In the back ground some coffee, malt and maybe raw cocao nibs. But for me the flavours that make an imperial stout are not front and center.
Mouthfeel is lighter then I would like for an imperial stout with more carbonation then I am used to in this style.
I know what I like in an RIS and this is not really it. Not a bad drink but not one I would pick if I really wanted a good imperial stout.

A - opaque black, creamy tan head, good retention, looks like a stout
S - decent blast of citrus hops, light chocolate underneath, but really, it is mostly hops
T - sweet carmel and chocolate, big roast, char, lingering coffee finish, some citrus hop flavour, nowhere near as strong as the aroma, long aftertaste is quite tasty
M - low carbonation, med body, some roasted astringency, but ok, fairly big alcohol presence gives it lots of dryness and smooth warmth, a little hot
D - fairly agressive american style imperial stout, still a little rough around the edges, but decent
Just looked at the bottle code, looks to be from Aug 2010. Still drinks a little too hot, which detracts from the great flavours. I'm guessing my other bottle will age quite gracefully, looking forward to it.

Pours looking like a nearly flat Coca-cola. Very dark in the glass. Thin head that is mocha coloured formed, but didn't hold on for long and settles in pools on top.
Strong roasted malt aroma with a dose of caramel sweetness offsetting a touch of campfire smoke. Fairly enticing, a balanced smell. Some liquor to the nose but nothing overbearing.
Flat-cola sweetness up front with a lingering roasted malt finish. Unfortunately that is about all I find, it really comes across quite one-dimensional. It seems to be missing all of the complexity that makes this style worth exploring.
Comes across slightly flat with a medium body. If there was either more carbonation or more body I'd be satisfied, but as is the brew is lacking.
This one was less than impressive, I wouldn't suggest it.

Sleek tapered bottle, wire cage and synthetic cork enclosure.
This beer pours black, with slight mahogany highlights, and three fingers of dense foamy beige head, which leaves a consistent lattice-work of lace around the glass as it recedes. Its smells of dark milk chocolate, light roasted malt, and earthy hops. The taste is roasted chocolate malt, a twinge of soya, and citrusy, leafy hops. The carbonation is average, the body medium weight and smooth, and it finishes fairly dry, the hoppiness pulling even with the chocolate malt.
A decent enough RIS, and the big 9 points of booze are a visceral no-show. Tasty - now where are those potato chips - this beer is giving me a craving.

From a 375 ml green bottle, caged and corked. Pours out an opaque deep black hue, thin creamy beige head, light lacing.
Aroma has complexity, roasted malt, treacle, licorice, dates, along with floral, herbal and citrus hops, some alcohol warmth.
Roasted malt and char up front in the flavour, molasses, dry musty grains, with bright grapefruit and leafy greens in the finish from the hops, alcohol warmth rises in the aftertaste already.
Medium-bodied mouthfeel, low carbonation, full and smooth on the finish.
Interesting twist on the style, akin to an American style stout with the assertive and noticeable hop presence, and it works. I'll be going back for more, however would like to age it and see how the hops mellow out with time.

A nice looking beer with a dense tan colored head that has decent retention and leaves patches of lace. not pitch black but it's getting close
S a little surprised by this one a lot more hops then I expected and still some burnt coffee and a little booze
T again a good amount hops with a tonne of different flavors, chocolate, coffee, a little molasses and even some grapefruit and the booze is there but not too strong
M a slightly silky feel from low carbonation and its thick enough to please
D for 9%alc its easy to drink and has lots of flavors to think about
I was surprised by this beer, I enjoyed it because it was a little different or perhaps not what I was expecting. I like the bottle too it was simple and I don't understand anything written on it. you don't see lots of small corked and caged bottles in this area it should do well

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large brown foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of coffee and dry roasted malt with some very subtle vinous notes. Aroma of coffee is dominated with a dry roasted malt finish with some very subtle and unique vinous notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well done and something I would wish to have more often.
