I actually toured the Shiner brewery when I was much younger and the Shiner people have a lot of pride in their beer. I really enjoy these darker/bock and octoberfest sort of beers. I do like this beer a lot, its got a good taste, nice mouth feel, and almost no aftertaste. Not anything super special but is still a nice beer. I would recommend this beer if you're into the darker lagers and bock beers.

Nice saturated color.

Full, dark nose.

Highly carbonated, very noticeably so. This is most prominent after the bottle is opened. It decreases after you let it sit for a bit.

Good finish, but the actual body of the beer isn't that fantastic. The flavors are best brought out at room temperature.

The carbonation overwhelms whatever underlying taste may exist for the first 30 minutes out of the fridge. Not pleasant to drink after refrigeration, but is OK after you let it sit. Or, don't refrigerate. Rating is for the beer after it's been let to sit.

from a 12 ounce bottle to a mug, amber color, light white head that left quickly, for a beer it's pretty good, for a Bock, a little to light, not a bad beer, just not exceptional either

Dark lager that is my go to beer. I really like his beer, it is simple and has good quality for a mass production beer. It is not really a Bock beer but is a quality American dark lager. From the bottle poured into a tulip glass nice tall head that dissapates after a few minutes. A little lacing on the glass. Nose is nothing remarkable but nothing offensive. Taste is smooth, light hops, a little sweetness. Overall I would say that this is a beer between macro and craft.

Poors a nice dark color. Smells ok. Not getting much nuttiness or notes of anything really. Have had much better.

Pours a deep amber with an inch and a half off white head that left little lacing. Smells of molasses and lightly roasted malts. Flavor is on the sweet side with notes of caramel, molasses, lightly roasted malts, nuttiness and a very minimal hop presence. Light bodied, thin mouth feel, light carbonation. Rather simplistic bock.

Poured into a lager glass, the appearance was a semi-glossy dark burnt red almost brown color with a light transparency along the edges. Just a finger's worth of white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace to leave some messy lace.
The aroma had some sweet dark bready qualities, dried caramel malts, brisk sweet to roasty nuts and a touch of dried yeastiness. Super light grassy hops shine through some earthiness.
The flavor leaned towards the sweet side initially and then developed decently through all of the previously mentioned aromas sweet to bready to light grassiness and a moderate earthiness. Aftertaste blended all of those flavors together and added in a hint of metallic qualities.
The mouthfeel was almost medium bodied, seeming to sit just a touch under to give way to a pretty good sessionability about it. Carbonation felt a bit under, but didn't bother me. Cloying qualities didn't show as I thought they would. Pretty smooth along my tongue.
Overall, as a bock, I'd say it did the trick for the most part except for that metallic aftertaste, oh nuts, and this could be a great one if Shiner got that out.
