Here in Shiner, TX, we raise a glass to tradition. So, for our 109th birthday, we'e celebrating with a limited-edition beer inspired by the homemade brew enjoyed after a long day in the fields. Our Farmhouse Rye is made with Munich Wheat and Rye, then coarsely filtered for a hazy and flavorful finish.

this is interesting. tastes a little like a weissen bier and a little like a dopplebock. ...the notes that really stand out is the familiar woven wheat cracker taste.....just like a triscut cracker.

Despite my nostalgia for my college days of drinking Shiner Bock, Shiner/Spoetzl has always been hit or miss for me, particularly when it comes to their birthday beers and special editions... some (like the black ale) are quite good, others like the chocolate birthday cake monstrosity are horrifically bad.

Thankfully Farmhouse Rye is in the first category, a great rye beer... but not quite a farmhouse style as there isn't much funky weirdness. But if judged for what it is and not what it is labeled as, it's good. Very good. Medium mouthfeel. Malty slightly spicy aroma. Nice bit of rye in the background. Sweet start and dryer finish.

Cheers to Shiner for this one! I'm hoping that they can keep this trend going.

this is the first rye beer i have had so i dont have anything to closely compare it to.

pours a nice light coppery amber with a nice lacing that resembles a good lager.

tastes of a simple grain and malt character with hops subtly poking its head into the aftertaste.

this was a nice change up from all the sweet witbiers and IPAs ive been drinking lately.

light body allows for an easy session beer. not too shabby

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours with a clear amber body and a decent head.
Surprisingly refreshing and malty aroma.
Spicy rye and hops dominate with less malt than the aroma suggests and near negligible farmhouse funk.

Appearance - The brew pours a caramel- golden color with a two finger head of white foam. The head has a decent retenting fading over time to leave a moderate level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell - The aroma is heaviest of a caramel smell mixed with a bit of rye and wheat. Overall the aroma is fairly nice and smooth in nature.
Taste- The taste begins with a somewhat more wheaty and lightly sweetened taste of caramel. There is a little bit of rye bread upfront which grows slightly stronger as the taste advances. The rye is light overall, but produces a nice accentuating flavor to the caramel, wheat, and bready tastes, and with a little bit of citrus and herb hop that develop, one is left with a rather smooth, decently flavorful, but easy drinking flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is rather light with a carbonation level that is rather high. For the flavor profile a bit more thickness and lower carbonation would have been slightly better but for the super low abv the feel is very fitting.
Overall - A tasty and easy drinking brew at a low abv. I have to give cred to Shiner!! They have the ability to produce a great product with lots of flavor, all while bring sessionable. That is not an easy fest..
