A pretty decent stab at a schwarzbier from Shiner. Clear dark brown, almost cola-colored body with a very small, quickly falling head. Almost looks like a soda except for the thin and patchy strands of lacing clinging to the glass.

The nose is quite mild; some chocolate malt; a lightly roasted character; a touch of nuttiness. Not a whole going on however. The flavor is a little more vivid; with the same general characteristics; chocolate and nutty notes are most prominent; lightly roasted, somewhat burnt malt and sugar; a bit of caramel, mild bitterness in the aftertaste. Fairly dry in the finish. Not a big wallop of flavor but a decent amount of subtlety.

Medium-light bodied with crisp carbonation and a clean overall feel. Drinks light and easy, not exactly a super refresher, but remains pretty quaffable. One of the better bottles in the Shiner “Family Reunion” mixed six.

Appearance: Black and opaque with a nice tan head.
The head receeds too quickly but laces nicely.

Smell: It's too faint. I detect some type of sweetness.

Taste: Burnt toast and Pepsi.

Another session beer with flavor. More of a simple toasted beer than a roasted/toasted complex beer. It's one of Shiner's only decent beers but a black lager from almost anywhere else will probably be just as good or better.

A: half finger head with poor retention on a very dark brwon body with some light getting through.

S: roasted malts, earthy hops, dark chocolate and toffee.

T: roasted malts and burnt toast up front. finish is mild coffee but not at all dry as I would expect. Fairly simple.

M: lighter body than expected. highly carbonation.

Overall: Drinkable but too carbonated. Flavor is simple and not at all memorable. Too bland for my tastes.
