Appearance, beer poured a light amber color, clear and clean look. White head that dissipated quickly however lace around the glass did not.

smell, was sweet and mild, slighly malty with some sweet hops

taste, very flavorful, alot of malt sweetness, very little bitterness, I notice some spices that wake up the senses...

mouthfeel, very smooth, lightly syrupy finish, medium carbonation..

overall, a very nice pale lager, well done by the folks at Shiner.

Appearance: Nice golden/copper color. Thin head that dissipates rather quickly. Looks refreshing.

Smell: Grainy smell, nothing special really. Definitely not it's strong point.

Taste: Pretty malty but expected. Not as bitter as I thought it would be. There's also a late hoppy taste.

Mouthfeel: Light and real smooth. Light to medium carbonation.

Drinkability: Pretty drinkable probably because of the smoothness. Easily could spend an afternoon drinking a 6 pack.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Unibroue Ephemere glass.

A: Pours a bright, clear, copper-tinged golden yellow, small eggshell white head settles into a very, very thin cap, and, surprisingly leaves some small spotty lacing.

S: This one might be a dud. A light sweetness, floral/citrusy notes, and then corn. And oh my, does it smell like corn. Almost as bad as some of the macros I have drank in the past.

T: Whoa! Who switched out my beer? Starts out very lightly sweet and cracker like malt, then switches into a slightly citrus and spicy hop bitterness that stays into the short finish, with the malt barely keeping up. Yeasty dough comes in short waves in the background. This is a Shiner?

M: Thin body, medium carbonation, and slick. A little more body and this one would be awesome.

D: Easy to drink, once you get past the aroma. Good flavor, nice level of bitterness and the short finish make it pretty tame.

This is Shiner? Really? This one is worthwhile, from a brewery that has made it's name making beer that is only a mere step away from swill. This is a quite good beer, and if I see it again, in 6 packs, I will buy more as a lawnmower beer.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Shiner mason jar mug.

A - Pours a medium straw, forming a large white head that quickly faded. Very small spots of lace on the glass.

S - Very grainy aroma with a noticeable amount of grassy hop aroma throughout.

T - Pale malt, grassy hops, and a slightly grainy finish.

M - Thin bodied with average carbonation. Very smooth and clean.

D - Not a bad beer at all and highly sessionable. This reminds me alot of Shiner 101. Exactly what you would expect as a lager. I wish this came in a 6 pack as it would be great in the summer.

A - Copper color and somewhat dark for the style. Average to slightly below average sized head of a light foamy white head. Pretty good retention leaving a thin layer of lace.

S - Fairly hoppy for the style although not really all that hoppy. Slight lemony aroma with a touch of grassy hops. Strong pilsner/pale malt. Some grainy aroma and maybe a hint of herbal hops. Nothing great, just a slightly hoppy pale lager.

T - Slight grain and bready malt flavor is the strongest. Somewhat hoppy, at least for the style with a touch of grassy and even less herbal and tea flavors. A decent lemony flavor. Subtle mineral flavor as well.

M - Light body with average carbonation. Crisp light feel.

D - Goes down easy, but I have no reason to want to drink more. Slightly hoppy for the style, but pretty bland overall.

Notes: Not horrible for the style, but not great either. Slightly hoppy and slightly bready malt. Nothing special just average or slightly above average beer for the style. Nothing I would come back to, even on a hot summer day there are other beers I'd rather have.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pilsner glass. Pours an amber color, with a crisp white head and ample carbonation. Very attractive in a "stereotypical" looking beer fashion. Decent head retention as the beer is consumed.

Has a sweet malty smell, with a faint floral hop aroma.

Light, with corn sweetness up front, mild hops with little to no bitterness. Crisp flavor, with faint graininess.

Light mouthfeel, this is a little too sweet for me to find crisp and refreshing.

While I have not found any of the Shiner family reunion pack beers to be memorable, this one I could at least see drinking again. Faint praise, to be sure, but better than none at all. The sweetness gets to me after a while, and if you let this get too warm, it starts to get a slightly unpleasant bitter taste to it. So, serve it cold, drink it quick.

Pours a pale amber-orange body with a small head dwindling down to just some bubbles sitting on the body. Smells albeit not too strongly of bread, biscuit-y and sweet with just a hint of hops. Nice upfront hoppiness is balanced by caramel malt throughout the sip. Hops kick in at the end again resulting in a pleasurable taste. This is probably the best Shiner beer I've tasted. Really a nice lager with flavor which does not fade out like a couple of the other Shiner beers.

12 ounce bottle, one of the 6 beers included in Shiner's Family Reunion 6-pack. Served in a pilsner glass, the beer pours a clear dark gold color with a half inch white head. Head retention and lacing are both OK. Aroma is toasted and bready malt, along with some grassy hops. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's a nice herbal/spicy taste noticable too. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium with moderate carbonation. Drinkability is good, it's smooth and easy to drink. Overall I think it's a pretty decent brew, I enjoyed it.

I bought a single bottle of this at Woodman's in Rockford, IL for about $1.30 in Winter 2010.

Another good find from Shiner. This Kosmos Reserve pours a golden amber color with good scent of wheat and malts. It has a very bold flavor of herbs but is surprisingly mellow. A very surprising taste for a pale lager.

A - Pours with one finger of white foam on top of a amber-gold body with excellent clarity. The foam settles a bit but it is supported by rapidly rising bubbles.

S - Toasty malt notes with some surprisingly strong, spicy hops.

T - Soft, malty notes up front with some toasted character. Spicy, herbal hop flavors begin to come out in the middle. The beer finishes with dry, toasty malt and spicy, green hop flavor that imparts only light bitterness.

M - Medium body, moderately high carbonation, and a dry finish.

D - I didn't expect much from this beer, and while it isn't very complex, it is much better than I assumed it would be. The malt is light and simple, but pleasant enough, however the hops are what really stands out in this beer. They are spicy and earthy with a very fresh character that makes the beer extremely drinkable. This beer is excellent for what it is and I would happily drink it again.

A: The beer is a good solid golden color with lots of active carbonation and a not impressive head on the top. It's essentially nothing before I've even finished writing this sentence. 3.5

S: I'm getting a pretty strong lagery/slightly skunked aroma from far away, and up close that's about all I get as well. Very lacking in this department, but there's nothing really wrong with it (the skunking isn't all that present even) 3.0

T: Still not much going on. Maybe a little more robust or flavorful than your standard BMC, but not much. I get perhaps a touch of caramelized grain, but nothing really indicating dry hopping or anything of that sort. Not bad, just not great. Even as far as a session or lawnmower beer, I could find much better than this one. 3.5

M: Alright, a nice robustness for the style I think this beer is going for, but nothing amazing. 4.0

D: Pretty drinkable, but nothing to write home about and nothing I'm going to seek out ever again. 4.0

A- Clear golden color with small white head and little lacing.

S- Bready, earthy and herbal. Grassy with hints of bitter citrus like lemon and orange peel. Coriander.

T- Sweet malts, bready and herbal. hints of orange.

M- Well balanced with a dry finish. Watery. Normal and boring.

D- Easy to drink but bland.

Only available in the Shiner variety pack.

A: Golden appearance with large bubbles in the head. Small head with some decent lacing. Translucent with the carbonation vey apparent. Looks like a traditional lager.

S: Somewhat fruity and bready. Not a whole lot else from the smell. Seems to be very balanced. Smells like a "beer" to me. There is nothing that makes an impact on the smell.

T: Relatively malty with a very, very smooth finish. Not bitter at all with sort of a bready, malty aftertaste. Everything seems so harmoniously balanced its amazing.

Overall 1 thumb 3/4 and 1 sideways on this beer. Haha. I still haven't formulated a strong view if this beer. It has a great taste if your looking to just kick back and have a few beers with the boys. The downfalls are that it is only available in the variety pack with 10 other beers.(Some of those not re-buy choices for me), and the smell is completely lacking in character. I think that if it was available in 6-packs I would buy it again and keep at least a 6 on hand in my fridge. Great beer Spotzl Brewery!!

Shiner Kosmos Reserve

Pours ½ finger of white head. Color is a clear golden orange. Active carbonation in the glass.

Aroma: Orange citrus, pale malts, earthy hops. This one has a bit more flavors than the other Shiners I have had.

Taste: Orange citrus again, pale bready malts, grassy earthy hops with a slight floral bite.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and dry with a touch of bitterness. Light to medium bodied with a medium to high amount of carbonation. Ends sticky.

Overall, better than the first 2 shiners I had, but nothing really special. Guessing this one is a pale lager or something of the sort. Somewhat drinkable.

Kosmo poured into a pils glass.

Clear golden with a slight copper tint. Well carbonated head of white that settled to film and lace alittle here and there.

Aroma of bread malts and grass.

Tasted of earthy grass, malty sour dough like bread. Little hop bitternes to sour.

Ok typical average beer. Good warm wheather refresher. Not much of a reserve though.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a Pilsener glass. The label has a brief description of the beer but no ABV or freshness date.

Appearance: Its body has a light golden color and good clarity with a tall white soapy head. This tall head quickly settles down to thin film of foam. Lacing is slick and minimal.

Smell: There is not much here at all really just faint pale grainy malt notes with some light hints of grassy hops.

Taste/Palate: There is a light sweetness from a white bready maltiness and cereal grain adjunct notes. The hops balance this with some grassy/earthy bitterness. There is a slight citrus like acidity as well in there. The finish is soft and dry with light carbonation.

Notes: This one is drinkable but just kind of boring.

S: An earthy hop aroma balanced with a sweet candy malt nose.

M/T: A well balanced sweet and bitter robust yet smooth feel on the palate. Crisp and refreshing with candied sugar and mild bread-y aftertaste.

D: A sweet malt and moderate bitterness that provide for a robust yet easy drinking brew.

Poured this into an Sam Adams pint at 48 degrees. (Tasted best around 50-55 rang) Its appearance was a nice strawberry amber.

The smell was like a lager mixed with a light pale ale.

The taste was kind of interesting. It was like the ghost of a pale ale was lingering around inside of a lager. Slightly sour, with a dry finish. Every now and again toasted malts would come through. There was a caramel and very very light coffee malt flavor that showed up towards the end at temps 56 and above. Unlike other Shiner brews I have had this one did not have a metallic aftertaste and mouthfeel. It was also not has highly carbonated as other Shiners.

It was very drinkable.

Overall I thought this Shiner was surprisingly good. I would choose this one over a Shiner Bock any day. I wouldn't go looking for it but I would have this again.

Shiner Kosmos Reserve pours an amber color with an off white head from a brown twelve ounce bottle. The aroma is mild, perhaps a bit malty. Bready malt flavors are noticeable at first, hops come in to balance it out toward the end. Nice and light, reasonably tasty, a decent warm weather beer.

The beer pours a yellow orange color with a white head. The aroma is sweet adjuncts with some earthy hops. The flavor is a mix of corn, wheat, grassy hops and grapes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not terrible by any means, but not too good either.

An interesting lager...supposed to be dry hopped..aroma gives off an herbal like impression...nice frothy white head on top of this golden colored beer...

Definitely more of a hop impression on this than their regular lager...the hops lend a grassy, lemony dimension....the maltiness is bready as it seems with most of their lager style beers...

A nice drinker with some interesting notes....kind of a pale ale/lager blend....solid beer...

An extra from a trade with rudge75 at Half Pints. Thanks for the great trade, Dave! Kosmos reserve pours a crystal-clear honey colour with a good cover of off-white head.

The nose is of grain, yeast, sweet malt and light hops. Smells like a lager.

Tastes of grain, light earthy hops and light malt. No off flavours but nothing distinguishing either. Slightly drying finish.

Medium body and medium-high carbonation.

This is drinkable enough but pretty bland. A decent, average lager and not one I'll be looking for again.

12-ounce brown bottle with twist-off cap poured into a pilsner flute.

Appearance is quite nice. Deep gold in color with a thick two-fingered head of creamy slightly off-white foam that fades away slowly to a thick cap. A steady stream of bubbles provides excellent head retention and leaves behind a few fat rings on the walls of the glass as it empties. Wonderful clarity, as well.

Not a lot going on in the nose, with some mild honeyish, lightly toasted malt notes; virtually no hop character is detectable.

Light-to-medium in body with a moderate carbonation feel. Sweet, bready malt starts the show and carries through until the end, with some mild melanoidins and a moderate bittering hop character lending an overall impression of a lightened version of a Munich Helles -- it wouldn't be difficult to see this as a Pre-Prohibition era brew from a German immigrant brewer, making it quite fitting of its near status as such. The finish is semi-dry with a lingering note of sweet bread that is quite clean.

I seem to recall my first experience with this brew as being much more lackluster, but on this second go-around, mid-day when my palate is probably more attuned, it strikes me as a very decent representation of whatever it's aiming to be. Balanced with just enough character to keep it interesting yet not overpowering in any one area, this is what the German brewing tradition is all about. In this reviewer's opinion, Shiner "Bock" should kick the dirt and be replaced with this more characterful and authentic lager.

A" super clear, dark honey colored. an inch of wispy head that completely disappeaed within a minute. no lacing AT ALL>

S : thought I read this was dry hopped. not much at all in the aroma dept here....

T no much in this dept either. not BAD, but not good either. light malt taste, only a hint of hoppiness

M: way too foamy- over carbonated. this tastes like a light beer

D: very drinkable. goes down easy, no hi ABV to worry about. no bad taste either. go ahead drink these by the 12 pack. if you cant find any thing better that is!

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass. Part of the Family Pack

A: Clear coppery gold in color, about a fingers worth of head that settles to a small ring with no lacing.

S: Sweet, malty, bready with a hint of fruity hops.

T: Heavy on the malty side, not overly sweet. Pretty bready up front with a hops popping in mid-way through, finishing on the malty side.

M: Kind of light and crisp to start, but gets a little thicker, breadier and smoother as it warms.

D: ABV feels pretty low.... Just enough going on to make it interesting... Nothing crazy new or crazy great. Not a bad session beer.

Not a bad little beer.... so far the Family pack has turned out a few good little beers.
