I look forward to seeing Shiner Oktoberfest in the local grocery store every time late august rolls around. Yeasty goodness. I don't have a lot of Marzen style experience to compare it to, but it's got Samuel Adams octoberfest beat by a long shot.

Typical of Shiner to have a beer that smells odd and has a strange shiny color but tastes really good for a grocery store beer
Easy to find and inexpensive (I believe I paid 13$ for a dozen)
Great stuff to begin the best season for beer

12oz undated bottle poured into a .5L krug at fridge temp. No ABV listed. The beer pours bright honey colored amber with almost white head. The aroma is caramel. The taste follows with one note of caramel. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, well carbonated and mostly dry. There is a little bitterness on the end that is surprising. It may be to help dry out the finish since this beer uses ale yeast. Overall, OK. I can see why people would buy and drink this but it's really a pale ale.

This beer is one of the most true to style beers found in the United States. Shiner seems to have captured the malt forward nature of the style with a small amount of spice from hops. I

S: white bread crumb, light toast, light bread crust, faint German malt spice, and a trace of diacetyl (movie popcorn butter) aromas. Moderate malt dominates the aroma. There are low to no hop, caramel, biscuit and alcohol aromas.

L: pours brilliant copper orange with rapidly rising streams of bubbles under a 1" white rapidly dissipating head that does leave some light lace.

T: ildly sweet, very creamy start with bread crumb and bread crust. Shiner Märzen-Style Oktoberfest dries on the finish with a moderate to moderately low bitterness and a slight grainy tartness.

F: creamy, medium body but medium high carbonation gives it a little bite and crispness.

O: Shiner Märzen-Style Oktoberfest is very drinkable.

Look: poured 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Amber-brown color with an off white head that lasts for a minute or 2, then dissipates to a film. Lacing is present as beer is drank, not a ton but a decent among.
Smell: malty and hoppy, hops and malt smell like a German Märzen (such as Spaten Oktoberfest) than others, such as Sam Adams' or Yuengling's offerings.
Taste: damn. Starts a little sweet, then an earthy bitterness followed by a more earthy and more bitter hop finish, with a semi-sweet and semi-tart aftertaste. A very good Marzen in my book. Sweet and bitter bite.
Feel: medium carbonation, medium light feel. About right for the style.
Overall: one of my top 2 Oktoberfest season beers, pretty much ties Spaten Märzen Style Oktoberfest in my book. A good sweet and bready start followed by an immediate hop bite that is easy to drink and not too much carbonation to drink quickly, the purpose of this style of beer. 4.5 of 5 all around. Prosit!
