Appearance: Clear, deep reddish-amber body adorned with a moderate, somewhat coarse, and persistent off-white head, with scattered, Belgian-style lacing, and slight carbonation.

Aroma: Prominent toasted malt, with strong caramel and distinct fruit notes, and a somewhat spicy and smoky character.

Taste: Opens with dark caramel, toasted malt, and slightly spicy hops. As the taste progresses, strong black bread notes appear. Later in the taste, a nutty character appears, quite pleasant against the abundant caramel. Finishes with a lingering note of burnt caramel, smoky malt, and grassy hops.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, fairly full, pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: A pleasing, well-balanced example, which deserves to be a year-round offering.

Presentation: Packaged in a twelve-ounce brown glass bottle with a twist-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.
