appearance - clear golden color with small head

Smell - not picking up much at all. Some bready notes maybe some maltiness?

Taste - kinda bland in flavor. Crisp finish.

Mouthfeel - ok?

Overall - easy to drink, crisp and sessionable. Nothing noteworthy

Thanks for sharing this one, Bobby.

A light copper color with an off-white head. Some malt notes to it, somewhat bready. There’s a little fruity sweetness and maybe some chocolate. Not bad, actually. The flavor is heavy on the bread and toffee sweetness with a little bit of toasted malt. Hints of chocolate malt with some mild fruit notes to it as well. Medium body and carbonation.

Final bottle from my Shiner variety six pack adventure.

Pours out a transparent amber with reddish tinges around the edges of the glass when held up to the light. Head is nice and tall, two fingers almost, leaving behind medium levels of lacing. Smells of nice caramel and toffee notes, with an herbal hopping accent as well. Flavor leans more on spice hops than herbal characteristics, however...all on top of a nice smooth sweet toffee malt with well rounded character and medium body.

By far, this was the clear winner from the variety six pack.

A - Translucent light-copper body with a tiny white head. Tiny bubbles both in the head and in the medium-light lacing.

S - Smelled malty with a little bit of caramel, old McDonalds fries; a weird but familiar smell.

T - Tasted great. Like a German dark beer should, reminded me of Celebrator but not as delicious or thick or flavorful. Tasted toasty brown sugar flavors, very clean and sweet, but not sticky.

M - Clean, dry, sweet with a light-medium body and it was very smooth and drinkable.

O - Delicious! My favorite from Shiner so far. At only $7 for the family reunion six-pack it's a steal to boot. I would love to drink more of this beer, a great one.

Thanks to ABVerageJoe for this one. From the Shiner family six pack.

Pours a copper color. Nice looking beer.

Smells toasty. Solid combination of malts and hops.

The taste is where it gets interesting. Malts, hops and caramel, maybe some brown sugar in there.

Very smooth. Good drinkability.

This one was a pleasant surprise, didn't expect to taste as good as it did, especially after the weakish smell.

Presents a clear, amber body with light head. Not much head retention. Light toasted malt nose. Medium body with a tad too much carbonation. Subtle bitter aftertaste.

A fair but undistinguished beer. Maybe a hop presence and a bit more malt character would help with this one.

A: Very clear, transparent copper in color. Forms a small off white head that quickly reduces down to nearly nothing. Some very light lacing.

S: Smells of caramel malts and toast.

T: Flavor is thin caramel malts, some breadiness, and a little toast. There are some faint earthy/spicy hops on the finish.

M: Medium bodied with a very smooth mouthfeel that almost feels out of place. Carbonation that is slightly on the lower side. Very mild bitterness.

O: A good Alt, easily drinkable, well balanced. Overall, a good beer.

Shiner Old Time JALT

C: 4.0 - Nice medium brown/amber color. Pours with about two inches of white/linen colored head.

S: 4.0 - Sweet. Malty. Citrus undertones. Not a complex combination of aromas, but it is pleasant.

T: 2.5 - Light sourness. Flat and watery. Minimal flavor. It's refreshing, but becasue its essentially cold water, not because of the aromas and complexities in its nature. Quite a dull tasting beer.

M: 3.0 - The beer is pretty watery, but has some body.

D: 2.5 - It's pretty light and easy to drink, but the poor taste doesn't make me want to drink another. Good thing I only bought one.

A - A real pretty looking beer with a clear golden amber and a half inch of creamy white head that lingers for a while and sticks nicely to the sides of the glass.

S - Light grassy hops, sweet caramels, and a touch of graininess.

T - Very grainy and herbal at first but it does make way to some pretty smooth caramel malts. The graininess helps the beer from being too sweet or cloying but it could use a bit more balance and sweetness.

M - Not bad for a shiner a light to medium body makes it easy to drink.

Overall nothing I would actually seek out again but not very off putting to not enjoy my last couple. Pretty decent altbier.

A- Dark orange, almost copper like, with a small white head that left behind moderate lacing.

S- Very sweet and caramely with hints of roasted malt and earthy hops at the finish.

T- Somewhat dry upfront with a mild bitterness that fades into an oily creamy sweetness which then gives way to a mild earthy hop lingering bitterness. There's a large presence of caramel in the middle which tastes wonderful. There's a roasted profile in the aroma that fails to make an appearance on the tongue.

M- Medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation. It starts dry upfront then thickens into an oily sweetness.

D- Highly drinkable, this beer has a lot going for it.

This beer really surprised me. I wasn't expecting much from Spoetzl after trying their Shiner Bock. Shiner Bock is their signatures brew, but I guess you shouldn't base your assumptions of their others brews off of it. Their Hefeweizen really surprised me as well.

12oz bottle from Shiner family reunion variety pack into a pint glass.

Pours a clear copper with a decent one finger head. Pretty good head retention and lacing.

Aroma is flowery hops along with caramel and toffee.

The taste is flower hops along with some caramel malt. Bitterness is moderate and lasts throughout. The caramel and toffee flavors really come out towards the finish.

Overall this is a pretty good beer. I am very pleased that Shiner has come out with this and if offered in six packs I would definitely buy.

12 fl oz bottle served in a pint glass, reviewed live:

A- Pours a transparent copper/orange color with a decently creamy head of two fingers. Retention is mediocre, but I'm surprised at that even.

S - Caramel, toast, cream, and bright floral notes. Interesting.

T - Cream and caramel open to lovely floral notes and pear. Finishes a bit bitter to nicely contrast the otherwise sweet body. Simple, but well executed.

M - Crisp and light. The light body can't transport the flavors where they should be.

D - This beer has actually given me some hope for the brewery. It's nothing special, but it's an easy drinking beer I'd have again.
