This tasted like beer water. Looks were deceiving as it poured okay, amber-orange with an inch of white head that disipated rapidly. No lacing at all. Smelled of grapefruit, ginger, and malt. Well balanced but thin and watery in flavor. The recommendation to serve ice cold tips Shiner's hand. This is a fruity saison that's best drank while mowing the grass if ever.

Color of peach-flavored Snapple tea. That is, clear, bronzy amber with yellow and pink hues. Tannish head fizzes up and then down very quickly. Completely gone in about 30 seconds. Nose is cranberry or raspberry, ginger, light on the grapefruit. Palate is not too sweet, in fact, incredibly dry for what it is. And what sweetness is there is well-balanced with ginger and a tartness which just barely favors grapefruit over tart berries. I don't even know if berries are an ingredient, it could be grapefruit that has lost some of its character. Light-bodied, spritzy to sudsy and velvety, quite crisp and refreshing.

I almost threw this out. A friend got me a Shiner Family Reunion mixed six pack. The Shiner Bock was the worst beer I've ever had, no joke, and the plain old Shiner was almost as bad. I dumped them both.

I drank this because I was hot and this was the only thing cold in the fridge. I don't even like fruit beer. But the ginger really set off the grapefruit and it's surprisingly refreshing. Not bad. Would buy again.

It may sound as though I am being partial to a Texas brewed beer but I assure you that I am not normally a huge fan of fruit flavored beers. This beer is very easy to drink in the Texas heat. The hops, malt, and grapefruit flavors play off each other well to create something very decent. If you haven't given this beer a try yet I strongly recommend that you do.

2 bottles were included in a Shiner Reunion 12 pack. Poured into a chalice, it had a short lived head and a pale Amber color. It had a slight hay smell. I found the grapefruit taste pleasantly refreshing. I normally don't like fruity beers. This one I enjoyed after cutting the lawn on an 80 degree day.

Appearance: Clean amber, with an average head of off-white suds. Slight lace.

Aroma: Smells like a fruit punch soda — Nehi or some other strawberry fizzy. Hmm.

Taste: Oddly artificially sweet and weird. There is a grapefruit taste but it lacks the bitter and acidic punch of the real thing. A ginger infusion comes in around the finish, too. A light brew that would be decent on a hot day, but as a beer, seems kinda meh.

average amber color decent head. has a sweet, piney, grapefruity, cleanser smell. taste about the same. A little to carbonated/acidity and waterer. Not something I would drink a again but I've had worse. If you like fruity, grapefruit beer you may like this. I'll give the rest to my daughter she likes that kind.

L- It looks fine. Clear. Gold. Nothing notable.

S- Foul. Just wrong. Think household cleaner. As I hold the glass to my nose I am dreading the first sip.

T- Not as bad as I was expecting but still very bad. At first stale & bready, then sickly sweet citrus, and then the stale flavor comes back. Debating pouring the rest out. That would be a first for me so I'll tough it out.

F- Soda water.

O- I don't really have anything nice to say about this. Wouldn't buy again or even drink again. At least there is some alcohol in it I guess. AVOID

Pours clear gold color with a foamy 2 finger tan colored head that was full of bubbles and faded slowly, leaving zero lacing and no trace of foam.

Smells like pine sol, ginger, herbs, grapefruit juice and ammonia. It's just wrong smelling for a beer.

Tastes pretty much like it smells, but with some more lager like beer malty character and a whole lot more red grapefruit juice. Too bitter and the ginger adds too much chemical flavor for my liking.

Overall it was not enjoyable in any way. Sadly it reminded me of urine.

It is not something I would drink on its own, as it felt thin, watery, and more tangy than sweet. However, it didn't have much bitter or pine, which was good (to me). It was lightly grapefruity and I liked the subtle ginger bite. It worked really well with dinner, which was General Tso's.

12 oz. bottle, no bottled on date present. Acquired a single bottle of this stuff from some guy who was drinking it in the local bottle shop while i was shopping. Thanks for the freebie, dude. "Beer brewed with Texas ruby red grapefruit juice and with natural and ginger flavors added". 4.01% abv.

Poured into a Duvel tulip snifter.

A - Pours a brassy orange body with decent clarity, about one finger of thin wispy white head that falls to a ring and disappears quickly, leaving a flat appearance. Leaves no lacing behind to speak of. Appears aptly carbonated. Looks ok for what it is.

S - A crisp & fruity aroma. Almost radler-like at times, notes of freshly cut / squeezed grapefruit, citrus, & white sugar. Very lightly bready malt presence, but mostly a sweet, sugary aroma.

T - Taste is the same: very sugary & sweet, notes of grapefruit juice & sugar cubes. This thing literally tastes like it had sugar cubes dumped into it. A bit of a coarse prickliness which must be from the ginger.

M - Feel is smooth, crisp, clean, & easy-drinking. Some lingering gingery prickliness / sugar cube sweetness. Light-bodied & easy drinking, with good carb.

Overall, very crisp, clean, & refreshing. An ideal summer drinking beer from Shiner.

Obviously I didn't expect much from this one. It's artificially sweet and unbalanced. It's from a huge brewery so I didn't expect it to be great. This is fine for a hot summer day.

I hesitate to rate this higher than I should with the unfair advantage of the aromas & flavors coming from fruit instead of malt & hops. Really good & refreshing.

The beer pours out into a Duvel glass a nice rich clear copper color with a 1/4" off white head that soon recedes to a very small ring around the glass and a thin island of foam. Sipping leaves a few tiny speckles that soon slide back to the liquid. Before long there's no foam on the liquid and a barely visible ring of tiny bubbles.

The aromas most strongly include the ginger and way in the background there's that touch of grapefruit juice. There's not much sign of either malt or hops.

The flavors are much as expected from the nose except that the grapefruit is up front and, along with some sweetness, is mostly all that's really there until the ginger kicks in towards the end. There is a faint bitterness which seems mostly from the grapefruit until the very end.

The mouthfeel is on the light-bodied side and slightly prickly from light but persistent carbonation. The finish begins as the grapefruit begins to fade, allowing that ginger to appear and also begin to fade away. While there's a touch of dryness at the end there doesn't seem to be any bitterness.

As a summer beer I could see enjoying this one and maybe even a couple, but I haven't enjoyed it enough to go find another. I'd probably not turn down a free one but trying it once is enough to know I'll be looking elsewhere for summer beers.

The perfect light, fruity summer beer for a hot day floating the river in Texas. Remember the Alamo, and remember to drink this beer in 100 degree heat.

12 oz. bottle into a helles lager glass

A - A quite heavy pour produced a head that is white in color and frothy, 1 finger in height that dissipates to a thin lacing quite quickly. The beer is clear and showcases a significant amount of carbonation with small bubbles rising quickly towards the surface. The beer is a light copper color, bordering on a reddish golden hue. 3.5/5

S - The aroma is very sweet, reminiscent of an oktoberfest lager in terms of maltiness but with a fruity juiciness as well. The tart juiciness is really the backbone of the aroma with the malt playing second fiddle. No real hop presence due to the grapefruit juice. 3/5

T - There is beer flavor here but it mixes with the ruby red grapefruit juice in such a way that it is hard to distinguish what other tasting notes there are. Right away there is almost a lack of flavor, more of a water flavor than anything, which quickly transitions into a light, tart grapefruit note (not the tangy tartness, more of just the flesh with the grapefruit flavor minus tartness). The tartness comes in halfway through and then disappears rather quickly to a hop bitterness that lingers on the palate as an undertone that sticks around until the next sip. Grapefruit does not overwhelm here. Rather, it takes the light lager base and adds a bit to it, although the light lager base is so tasteless that the grapefruit overwhelms any maltiness. Ginger acts as the final act to this play and lingers on the palate. 3/5

M - Carbonation burn throughout the first two thirds of the sip which then transitions to a watery wetness that is very clean and light and leaves the palate slightly dry. 3.25/5

O - Not a beer that I will be revisiting. More than anything just not my cup of tea. Very light and nice for a hot day and possibly with food. Very different than any other fruit beer that I have had due to this beer using a light lager base rather than a wheat ale base. 3/5

Not the worst Shiner beer I've ever had, which is a pretty low bar actually. It's a decent fruit beer, with a competent and rightfully restrained level of grapefruit.

GINGER! KAPOW! Big old blasts of ginger off the nose, with the ruby red grapefruit coming in to pick up the pieces. It's a little jarring, definitely intense, but not altogether unappetizing. Clear copper/gold color, little head, bubble body that wasn't distracting. Palate is replete with ginger still, though the grapefruit is there too both for flavor and bitterness, along with some vaguely grainy flavor. There was just the lightest touch of mustiness or vegetal-ness or something. Not enough to be super distracting but enough to notice. Not a bad beer, per se, but I'd reach for a helluva lot else before this on a hot summer day.

L: dark gold in color. Small white head that did not last, has no lacing.

S: can smell the grapefruit and a hint of ginger. Has a very clean smell.

T: grapefruit hits you first and then the ginger sneaks in on the finish with a small bite

F: light carbonation leads to a dry tartness from the grapefruit

O: I like this but am not sure if it would be a beer I would grab if I had some other choice. The bottle said to drink ice cold but as I let it warm the favors started to pop better.

well it is tart but it's not very delightful. i usually really enjoy grapefruit flavored beers but this one all the grapefruit is in the aftertaste and the normal taste is too tart to drink more than one of.

Appearance: It has a nice deep hazy golden/orange color to it. It has a nice off white head that dies down somewhat fast and leaves next to no lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of grapefruit, ginger, bready/buiscuity malts and perhaps a very faint nuttiness.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some grapefruit upfront, ginger, sweet bready/biscuity malts and very faint caramel.

Mouthfeel: It has a low-med carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by good flavors and aromas.

Pours a clear golden with a touch of ruby. Normal head volume, poor retention and no lacing.

Nice vibrant light nose of light sweet grapefruit over biscuit. As it warms, ginger comes to the forefront.

Light body with a texture similar to water. Superb carbonation with a bit of effervescence in the middle and a finely bubbled prickly finish.

With more intensity and complexity the flavor profile would be outstanding. Light grapefruit and ginger roll across the biscuit base. Middle bitterness is only a hint. The finish does deliver a nice burst of ginger and a nice spicy heat. Beef this beer up and it is an outstanding contender. As is, it's a good lawnmower beer.

This is one of my favorite summer beers. I love Shiner and I absolutely love ruby red grapefruit from the Rio Grande Valley. To me, this is a great combination coupled with some brisket and/or a day on the lake.
