Nice amber gold color with minimal white cap and lacing.

Aroma of ripe ruby grapefruit. Not astringent garden variety red grapefruit, the rich aroma of the ruby red variety grown in Texas. I know the scent having bought them from a stand on the edge of the field where they were grown. Following this is the sharp, bitter tang of ginger.

Flavor is sweet grapefruit and sharp ginger atop a base beer substantial enough to support those strong flavors an not get lost in the process. Little or none of malt and hops which would normally be a turnoff for me. Indeed, I've ignored this brew because I was thinking, ho-hum, another shandy. It's more than that because here the grapefruit flavor is rich without being sweet, the ginger strong without being bitter, the supporting beer being solid without being intrusive. It's not a complex brew but certainly a tasty one.

Medium texture with just a bit over average carbonation.

Shiner nailed it with this one. Not too strong, not too sweet, not too tart, and very refreshing. These fruited beers sometimes hit me with an overboard whang of artificial flavors but not this one. It just seems natural as if Shiner took a few good things and blended them together in a surprisingly competent manner.

Shiner Ruby Redbird brewed by Spoetzl Brewery / Shiner, with an ABV of 4.01% This brew pours out a deep golden amber color with a thin white head. The head to this brew goes away fast. Vary thin lacing to this brew. The smell is rich with spices and citrus sweetness. You also pick up on some nice grains and malts in the smell of this brew. Hops are mild. Now for the taste, it is sweet but spicy sweetness kinda reminds me Ginger Ale. Not saying that is a bad thing. After reading the bottle it has ginger in it, so it a nice note to this brew. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a real nice balance to it. The Ginger spice adds to the flavor nicely. The mouth feel is Bold, Clean, Crisp, Smooth and Refreshing. Overall I'm Shiner Ruby Redbird a 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again. Spoetzl Brewery / Shiner did a real nice job with this brew.

One of my least favorite beers I've tried. I just don't think it was for my pallet as it seems like it has some good reviews. I just did not like the taste at all.

Shiner Ruby Redbird | Spoetzl Brewery / Shiner. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, this brew has no head, no lacing, and a deep brownish amber body.

I smell cranberry 7-Up/ Canada Dry. Not bad at all.

Tastes like a crisp, very refreshing fruit flavor upfront that is nice and tart.

Medium-light mouthfeel with fair carbonation.

Overall, I'll give Shiner Ruby Redbird | Spoetzl Brewery / Shiner. A lighter, refreshing brew that will do the job cooling you off.

I've had this brew a number of times, though I'm not a huge fan of fruit-beers. Inn ever sought it out in its own 6er, though it is available in Texas and Florida (home port) as a 6 pack. I only get it when I get a few family reunion 12 packs when I'm in Texas so I can get the craft beers (this time it was the Texas Warmer and Berliner Weisse), plus a few Shiner Bocks, Wicked Rams (I hate IPAs, but sometimes I throw one or 2 back) and Kosmos Reserves as a bonus. So, on to the test.
Looks: pour is promising, this is the first time I poured this into a glass and actually analyzed the beer. Nice lighter side of amber color. White inch-tall head that dissipates rather quickly.
Smell: smells like grapefruit and ginger and a hint of malt in the background, but mostly ginger and grapefruit. Ever had a Leinenkugel's Grapefruit? Kinda like that.
Taste: follows the nose to a T. Grapefruit tardiness followed by a ginger and malt finish. Not bad. Inhale through your nose as you drink it in a pint glass and the taste really reveals itself. Pretty refreshing.
Feel: feels thin and carbonated, not like a bud light or something, not watery. Just thin and fizzy.
Overall: not a bad fruit beer, just not my style. One of the better fruity beers I've had (mostly Leinie's), but overall not bad. I will continue to drink these as long as they're in the reunion pack.

Taste a good amount of grapefruit, and definite notes of ginger on the back end. Overall not a bad beer.
