Love this as a summer beer. By the pool, after a soccer game, or next to the grill. This is a great and refreshing drink for warm weather.

Look - Slightly ruby in color, as you may expect from its name. Fairly clear. Head dissipates quickly, appears to be heavily carbonated.
Smell - Not much at all in terms of malt, hop, or yeast aromatics. Clean smelling with grapefruit/citrus aroma.
Taste - Not much happening here. Almost doesn't taste like beer. Dominating grapefruit flavor. Hints of ginger.
Feel - Fizzy carbonation that quickly dissipates in the mouth to a watery finish.
Overall - I'm usually a fan of Shiner beers. This is one of my least favorites. There's just not much body to this beer, it has the watered down characteristics of many American Adjunct Lagers. This beer would possibly be enjoyable on a hot 105* Texas summer day if you're playing golf or something similar. Not a beer I'd grab if I'm just looking to enjoy a good beer at home though.

S: moderate to moderately low light malt, grapefruit and ginger aromas with a light sweetness.
L: gold amber with a faint haze and a sudsy white foam cap that rapidly disappears.
T: light grains, citrus, a trace of ginger and light to medium hop bitterness. The grapefruit flavors emerge more in the middle and the ginger increases throughout and the level of ginger heat increases slightly with each drink. The bitterness is just enough to balance the grapefruit and malt.
F: medium light body and medium to medium low carbonation.
O: The brewer shows a restrained hand with the added fruit and spices and achieves a fairly balanced, drinkable beer.

I was pleasantly surprised find that the gas station right in front of our subdivision has this beer for sale. I was lucky to get the last 6 pack they had on the shelf.
The look is a bit of a dark orange, very transparent, very inviting almost. The head didn't last too long, but I'm not complaining.
You can smell the ginger and the grapefruit in the bottle and even more so in the glass. Smells appetizing.
In the taste, the grapefruit is present yet not as much as you'd think, and the ginger is kind of subdued, but it does add a nice compliment to the grapefruit. Nicely balanced overall
The mouthfeel is light, very smooth, with the carbonation you'd expect from a Shiner beer(which ain't so bad for me).
Overall, a balanced beer. Very smooth and easy to drink, and definitely a nicely flavored beer that isn't overbearing on the palate. It was very refreshing to drink, especially with the hours at work being as crazy as they've been. There aren't too many breweries that make such easy drinking beers like the Spoetzel brewery. I can't wait to try my next Shiner!

Nice amber gold color with minimal white cap and lacing.
Aroma of ripe ruby grapefruit. Not astringent garden variety red grapefruit, the rich aroma of the ruby red variety grown in Texas. I know the scent having bought them from a stand on the edge of the field where they were grown. Following this is the sharp, bitter tang of ginger.
Flavor is sweet grapefruit and sharp ginger atop a base beer substantial enough to support those strong flavors an not get lost in the process. Little or none of malt and hops which would normally be a turnoff for me. Indeed, I've ignored this brew because I was thinking, ho-hum, another shandy. It's more than that because here the grapefruit flavor is rich without being sweet, the ginger strong without being bitter, the supporting beer being solid without being intrusive. It's not a complex brew but certainly a tasty one.
Medium texture with just a bit over average carbonation.
Shiner nailed it with this one. Not too strong, not too sweet, not too tart, and very refreshing. These fruited beers sometimes hit me with an overboard whang of artificial flavors but not this one. It just seems natural as if Shiner took a few good things and blended them together in a surprisingly competent manner.

Shiner Ruby Redbird brewed by Spoetzl Brewery / Shiner, with an ABV of 4.01% This brew pours out a deep golden amber color with a thin white head. The head to this brew goes away fast. Vary thin lacing to this brew. The smell is rich with spices and citrus sweetness. You also pick up on some nice grains and malts in the smell of this brew. Hops are mild. Now for the taste, it is sweet but spicy sweetness kinda reminds me Ginger Ale. Not saying that is a bad thing. After reading the bottle it has ginger in it, so it a nice note to this brew. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a real nice balance to it. The Ginger spice adds to the flavor nicely. The mouth feel is Bold, Clean, Crisp, Smooth and Refreshing. Overall I'm Shiner Ruby Redbird a 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again. Spoetzl Brewery / Shiner did a real nice job with this brew.

One of my least favorite beers I've tried. I just don't think it was for my pallet as it seems like it has some good reviews. I just did not like the taste at all.
