Shiner Wild Hare Pale Ale
12 oz. brown bottle, dated "031 14 D2 04:00" roughly 4 1/2 months old

Notes: Nice label. Retro. Deep golden / light amber in color. Creamy off-white head. Good retention and better than average lacing. Aroma of malt and hop: gently sweet, bready, slightly caramelish malt and leafy/grassy/floral hops ~ quite English in nature hop-wise, not what I think of as "American"; and "European" in malt, but again, not "American". Overall, balanced a bit too far towards sweet malt. The hops are nice (pleasantly floral against the sweet/bready malt). Easy-going basic pale ale that's got enough to satisfy.

Poured from a longneck into a shaker pint. A semi-aggressive pour made the head overfill. I got a good whiff of floral hops as I sucked up the foam. The head is moderately sticky. The color is a pale, orange-amber with light carbonation.

The flavor-aroma is very balanced- moderate floral and light citrus hops are combined with some flavorful and semi-sweet Munich malt. Mildly bitter on the tongue with a hint of orange and maybe some pear lingering into the aftertaste. Light in body and goes down easy.

This is a solid, easy drinking pale ale that I would seek out again. Purchased as part of a variety six pack for about $8.50.

Appearance (3.00) : Three fingered head, amber (almost honey like) body, and medium-light carbonation. Not a bad looking beer by any means.

Smell (2.25) : There's a slight floral smell but otherwise not all too aromatic.

Taste (3.25) : Surprisingly good. I can taste an abundance of hops, however, the beer itself is not all that bitter. Instead, it's almost a sweeter ale.

Mouthfeel (3.00) : Nothing crazy special or awful - about average. Very smooth with a good amount of carbonation.

Overall (3.25) : This was a good beer. Nothing too outstanding but also nothing very awful. A very good ale for a pretty good price too.
