500 mL growler poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Dark brown, almost black. No head or bubbles. Lifeless and not very dark for a stout.

Smell - Woody with a burnt character to the nose. More burnt than smoked. Caramel.

Taste - Extremely burnt. Acrid. Caramel fades very quickly to ashy burnt wood. Coffee. Bitter finish.

Mouthfeel - Mostly flat. Burnt and very bitter.

Overall - I appreciate the rare tick, but this isn't very good. Super burnt and acrid.

Got a couple of 12 oz bottles for a steal in one of the 10.99 6 packs from my local Kroger's Grocery store! I usually keep a look out for Jackie O's just because I love their stouts. And this one is a killer! Firstly this is reported here as 9.5% ABV when it's a solid 11% ABV. Says right on the label Max Beer ABV in Ohio is 11%. Jackie O's bottles always have a bubbled neck and are quite hefty I love using them for my home brew and their labels easily come off as they're plastic.

Poured it into a 12 oz glass very dark almost black slightly oil colored. Just a finger of caramel colored head that quickly settled to an edge leaving nice lacing.

Smelled terrifically of cocoa, warm caramel and brown sugar and with a slight smokey bourbon smell neither the bourbon or the smoke was over powering like other bourbon or smoked stouts I've tried.

Tasted nearly as it smelled, but had a molasses, slight honey taste or a bit of brown sugar and strong cocoa, the smoke was there but not destructive to the other flavors. Left lingering tastes of vanilla and dark chocolate with a woody bourbon taste which is very mild I must say. Hop character and alcohol is very well hidden! As it breathed and warmed the bourbon was more noticable but still tasted vanilla and cocoa. 1/2 way through the glass I was feeling warm and fuzzy, drink slowly.

Mouthfeel was syrupy and sticky malty. Carbonation is moderate to light.

If you're a fan of sweet stouts or imperial stouts in general you'll love this one I'm gonna age the other bottle for a long while might head back and get another 6 bottles tomorrow! Have a picture but website isn't letting me upload it not sure why.
