375ml bottle poured into a snifter.

L - Pours a super deep brown color, a bit muddy and capped with a small finger of frothy cappuccino foam that shows good staying power. A bit of foamy lacing is left on the glass as the beer falls.

S - Caramelly, toffee, molasses at the base of the beer, smooth vanilla, some booze that almost has a bourbon aspect to it. Slightly buttery, faintly minty, coffee bitterness although not at the level I expected to find.

T - Berries up front, boozy, a bit herbal and minty, coffee roastiness and bitterness, not much for vanilla, grassy hops, some acrid and burnt character.

F - Medium to full in body with a medium carbonation that is fizzy in the mouth. Boozy and herbal character is most noticeable. Vanilla gives a smooth finish on each swallow.

O - Very good imperial stout. Not especially impressive or noteworthy, but solid all around. Happy to have tried this one.

A - Pretty much pitch black. Dark tan head that leaves a solid 1/4" ring.

S - Roasted coffee, sugars, slightly boozy, faint malts.

T - Coffee up front, especially on the colder end of temp, then a lot of vanilla. Fairly sweet. Some alcohol and slightly charred malts on the back side. Finish is more sweet than bitter. I like this more and more as it warms.

F - I read some of the comments about it being thin. I don't really agree there. I find it to be medium bodied and the right amount of carbonation. It does seem to have more noticeable alcohol than Dark App, so maybe that is what others are getting. Drinks pretty smooth.

O - This reminds me very much of Ballast Point Victory at Sea. I can see where people may find it heavy on the vanilla side since it is significant, but I would guess they are also regular coffee drinkers where I am not. To me, there is plenty of coffee prescence. Especially on the colder end of the spectrum. I do think the regular Dark App seems to be drowned out a bit in the other flavors, but this is still a very well done beer. Brad and the Jackie O's team continues to impress and represent Ohio with their bottled lineup. I would love to see a barrel aged version of this one too.

Dark Apparition is greatness and the tones they added here with the vanilla and coffee bean are expertly balanced. Jackie O's is doing big things in ohio and this is no exception. GET ONE!

Thanks to fiver29 for this 375ML bottle, & for forcibly reintroducing me to the brewery (after I had some, ah, not-so-great experiences years ago). Bottled in 2014.

The pour is American double stout black (vs. the blacker, darker, badderfuckingass Russian Imperial Stout black) with a much stouter (ha!) head than the base version I quaffed a couple nights back. Nose brings faint roast & fainter vanilla, but it’s harder to find than an open Vikings wide receiver. Tame.

Dark Apparition with Vanilla & Coffee is simultaneously subtle & aggressive: that’s a neat trick. A lovely shot glass of vanilla fronts the base beer with its herbal mint, molasses sweetness, distant squirrel-fed nuts; the alcohol that bares its fangs in the base is absent, though. Coffee is more of a roast edge that arrives mid-palate & is supporting the beer rather than fronting it: but unlike Starbuck’s beers, that adds to the depth instead of overwhelming the rest of its attributes. Finish is all about the vanilla, & this thing is smooth enough that I want to pull down my pants & slide across it. 375ML? Please. Give me this in Oktoberfest mugs.

Awesome sauce. This brew takes the base & manually cranks it up a few notches; the adjuncts are masterfully woven into the beer’s fabric. Excellent.

Poured at 51°F from a 375ml bottle (2015 vintage) into a snifter. Consumed on 26Feb16.
LOOK: Pours with a fingers worth of light brown foam that dissipates into a quarter fingers worth of khaki foam within 1 minute. Black in color with an orange tint. Rising bubbles are subtle in quantity and very small in size. There is an abundance of tiny, brown particles floating around. They could be yeast or maybe remnants of coffee beans. Lacing is thin and moderate.
SMELL: Strong aromas of molasses and coffee entangle with mild aromas of alcohol, sweet chocolate, caramel, and vanilla along with subtle earthy hop and bitter roasted malt aromas.
TASTE: Strong coffee and sweet chocolate flavors first strike the palate and are immediately followed up by strong vanilla and mild alcohol flavors. Mild caramel and bitter roasted malt flavors further unveil the taste profile as coffee flavors grow slightly stronger. Mild flavors of molasses and subtle earthy hop flavors enter lastly as all previous flavors persist, except for vanilla, which fade from strong to subtle.
FEEL: Full-bodied and subtly carbonated. Goes down smooth and creamy. Finishes with a mild, but pleasant dryness. A strong, but welcoming alcoholic warmth can be felt as it goes down the throat.
NOTE: This was very tasty. I would highly recommend this to any stout lovers. I was surprised that the molasses flavors weren't stronger and that this also had a small hop bite. Great job on this beer!

Not as much vanilla flavor as I would've liked, mostly coffee, still very good just was hoping for more vanilla. Regular Dark Apparition is a little smoother IMO.

After seeing all the positive reviews I was excited to stumble upon this beer. However, it did not quite live up to the hype. Not to be negative, or don't try it, but I definitely won't be purchasing it again.
