12.7 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a Jackie O's snifter
2016

This beer pours a deep mahogany color with faint ruby highlights when held to the light. An aggressive pours yields very little tan head that leaves no lacing.

The smell is vanilla and caramel from the bourbon. I get toast and toffee. I also get some brown sugar. It is fairly sweet smelling.

The caramel and vanilla come through in the taste. I also get an earthy flavor presumably from the nuts. I get hints of cocoa with toffee flavor.

Full bodied with a thick, syrupy mouthfeel

This is an excellent beer but not my favorite Jackie O's.

Muddy brown red--almost like an oil slick complete with rainbow under light--with loud, fizzy tan bubbles that disappear completely and never return.

Smell certainly is nutty, and also waxy and oaky, with rich gooey caramel, prune, and faint molasses. There's almost a hint of stout-like roast as it warms.

Taste mimics the nose admirably, adding a touch of red fruit or red licorice actually, but also some spicy, black peppery and very hot bourbon. Leather and bright, fresh tobacco pop in, with even a hint of amaretto as it warms. Unfortunately, boozy heat intensifies more and more as well, to the point of becoming overwhelming halfway through a glass.

Slick but thin with mild to little carbonation, a stinging burn on the way down, and a semi-wet finish.

Look is cola like and up on a vigorous pour yields a neglible amount of off white head. Settles quickly into a thin ring.

Aroma is bourbon, caramel, toffee and maybe some sweet raisin.

Taste is all sweet bourbon upfront. Mid palette it's sweet caramel and toffee. Finishes sweet and slightly boozy.

Feel is slick and oily. Coats the palette well.

Overall a fine beer that I'm more than grateful for the opportunity to try. It's an interesting take on a bw and delivers what it promises.

Poured from 12.7 oz bottle into Nut Smasher tulip
approx 40 - 45 degrees

Dark red/brown hue w off white head
minimal lacing

Aroma of toffee, caramel, & vanilla
sugary/nutty aroma almost like a Belgian candi sugar

Tastes like heaven. I'm a huge barleywine fan truth be told. Tastes just like it smells..toffee & caramel w vanilla and bourbon.
Brown sugared and bourbon soaked pecans ...sticky and sweet but balanced nicely by the booze.
Like drinking Bourbon covered turtle!

DELICIOUS!!! Need to go back to 101 to get more

375 mL bottle. Deep amber. Small khaki head. Smells of strong bourbon, oak, lots of sweetness. Tastes of really aggressive bourbon. It dominates most of the flavor. Some brown sugar sweetness. Nutty in the back end with a long oaky bourbon finish. Heavy, boozy, and sweet. Just interesting enough to justify the booze and sugar.

Received in a trade. 2016 vintage.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown with a nice one finger off white head that fades to leave good wisps and legs.

S - Aromas of lighter bourbon, very nice caramel, excellent nuts. Like caramel covered pecans.

T - Taste is similar to the nose very nice bourbon notes, faint booze. Excellent brown sugar, tastes a lot like caramel covered pecans.Wow.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, creamy, alcohol hidden nicely.

O - Overall this is a very solid barley wine. Very good nuttiness. Well done.

Thanks to rudzud, 2016

Light fizzy head fades quickly, long legs, super dark almost black.

Nose little booze, big dark choc fudge, big caramel cream, fair nutty, brown sugar roasted pecan thing, little nougat and touch if coffee, little roast.

Taste thick fudgey with loads of caramel again, caramel cream, Irish cream, big nuts toasted pecans, touch of bourbon and vanilla oak, brown sugar candied pecans, sweet caramel, just a hint of booze and roasted malt, with little bitterness. Finish little sticky sweety but drier, hint of booze warmth and bitterness, big caramel toffee and candied nuts.

Mouth is fuller bod, decent but lighter carb, thick fudgey like, just a hint of booze, Irish cream feel.

Overall quote nice, nuts came through nicely, barrel lighter but nice, really liked the Irish cream not too.
