Notes: Pockets of Sunlight is a saison brewed with honey, coriander & lemon verbena. Fermented with a mixed culture of classic saison strains, wild yeast, & bacteria. Post fermentation, the beer was conditioned in stainless steel for 6 weeks with its primary mixed culture. A third & final fermentation completed this beer in the bottle. Pockets of Sunlight is a radiant saison full of crisp energy.

Poured into a Barrelworks snifter. Slightly honey-tinged pallid yellow. No head other than a thin ring around the glass and little islands of bubbles. Smell of white wine. Crisp sourness, slightly sweet funk, flashes of herbs from the verbena, coriander in the background. Medium mouth feel, light carbonation, perfect for this ale.

I would buy this again.

L:. Pours a hazy straw orange yellow with a medium white head and no lacing.

S:. Lemon peel, peach, notes of orange and other citrus, notes of herb, sweet honey, notes of fresh bread, some nice Brett funk, lots going on but it smells very inviting.

T:. Lemon, citrus, orange, peach, coriander and herbs, some sweet honey, a medium sourness and some Brett funk, with notes of toasted bread. Complex and tasty.

F:. Sour that lingers on the tongue, medium body and higher carbonation.

O:. This is a very nice complex sour.

Bomber from @WesMantooth. A mystery beer, cloaked in a brown paper bag, with a message from WesMantooth printed upon it: "Pour with blatant disregard sorry, 'Pour with Care.' I knew it was one or the other. NBS # 6 - Wes."

Poured into a Kane snifter, this is a lemony, hazy beer with a decent sized white head, with a fair amount of lacing.

Very saisonish nose, with slightly bitter, herbal hop notes and peppery, spicy Belgian yeast esters. Slightly earthly hmm notes as well, reminding me of some wheat beers. Curious what this will turn out to be.

Fairly tart and spicy flavor. Again, I think I'm dealing with a saison, but it's a fairly fruity one, up front, anyway. In addition to the Belgian spicy yeast notes noted above, I also get mild citrus flavors and a bit of melon, ending on a dry note.

Medium bodied, with a dry, faintly crisp mouthfeel.

Time to remove the wrapping and reveal this beer's identity: Yes, it's a saison, brewed with "Honey, Coriander and Lemon Verbena." Well, I certainly didn't know the particular beer, but I did know the style. It's one I would definitely drink again, given the chance. Thanks, WesMantooth!

16.9 ounce bottle, 2017 vintage. Served in a Prairie teku, the beer pours a slightly hazy gold color with about an inch white head with a decent amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like lemon, honey, coriander, grainy malt and earthiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some lime, white grape, green apples, grassiness and a bit of peppery spice flavor noticeable. Slightly tart, too. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's crisp with a good amount of carbonation. I thought it was an enjoyable brew, really good for a hotter day and just plain good in general. Jackie O's has another winner here! $10.99 a bottle.

Really great Saison. Had it with my Thanksgiving turkey. Poured a hazy yellow color with a medium size fizzy white head into a pint glass. Head fades fast and there is little lacing. Great aroma, tartness/sourness, funk lemon and spices. Taste is even better. A Saison yeasty/funky presence with some brett tartness/sourness. This beer is complex and enjoyable. Mouthfeel is rich and complex. The tartness, funk, lemon and spices all blend together beautifully on the tongue. This one is a winner.

Poured from a 16.9 oz bottle into a tulip. Lemon colored haze with a decent sized head with good retention. Smelled of lemon and summer grass. Tasted similar and very dry making you want to come back quickly. Very nice feel to it. This is a very refreshing summer beer that illustrates the variance within the style of saisons because this tastes very different from Dupont, Tank 7 or Hennepin, to give three examples. I agree with the reviewer who said $11 is too much for this when less expensive alternatives are easily available.

Poured from a 2017 bottle into the HFB test glass.
A - Bright sunny yellow color. Clarity is wonderful, allowing the vibrant carbonation to be on full display. A tight knit cap of
white is quick to exit, leaving an orbital ring clinging to the glass.
S - Very delicate and clean, threads of lemon grass, pilsner malt, wheat and a touch of coriander all meld seamlessly.
T - Fruit skin, apple, a bit of lemon verbena comes through, with a rise in temperature the honey moves forward. The mixed culture has a very nice ashen, mineral aspect.
M - Here the offering shines, exceptionally lite on the palate, a neutral start , then the ever slightest bit of tartness. The mid experience is a bit sweet, and the finish, delightfully dry. This reminded me a great deal of Austrian white wine.
Exceptionally clean feel.
O - The offering is so clean, flavorful and yet elegantly simple. These are the times where a brewer shines. A very difficult canvas to hide flaws on. The mixed fermentation is on full display, by using stainless and then short multiple stages without the use of barrel aging creates a very clean expression.
Excellent work by Brad and the talented brewers at Jackie O's.

Poured a golden orange body with fizzy head thanks to carbonation. Medium, funky yeast aroma hints of tropical fruit esters. Tart, almost sour funky taste with acidic crispness and sharpness with a tropical fruit taste in the background and crisp finish.

L: Poured from a bottle to a snifter glass. Had a yellow color and a cloudy consistency. There was an inch of foamy, fairly long lasting head. Pretty good lacing.

S: A sweet, enticing aroma of Belgian yeast, citrus, malt, honey, and a slightly funky quality.

T: Tasted of a bit of the typical saison barnyard funk (not as much as with some Belgian saisons), lots of yeast, some honey, spices (pepper), a bit of citrus (lemon), and light malt. A much sweeter, lighter version of a saison flavor, but one that works. The honey and citrus fit right in with the style.

F: A well-carbonated beer with a lively, prickly finish. Medium-bodied.

O: An extremely drinkable, well made saison. It's not quite in line with the classic idea of the style, but it's definitely drinkable.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

Gusher upon opening, loosing about 3 ounces luckily not too much. Clear at first, but then slow decant topping up causes classic cloudiness as the gases distrubed the bottom. Faint white head that fizzes quickly, and strangely very small at half a finger. Major gush and no head… that's a first for our hero. A classic lemon yellow body with excellent clarity, or glowing lemon opaqueness. Take your pick.

Straightforward brett action on the nose that's quite solid. Moderate funk, with touches of some herb, and the honey does seem to make a presence kicking in some sweetness but it's tiny. Hints quite herbal too, pretty solid.

Real nice palate. Light and crispy feel, but with an excellent honey coating and flavor. Touches light brett and fantastic herbal flavors, from sage to mint, lemon balm like and some spicy character. Herbality really opens up on the swallow, touches large amounts of mint like character that mixes with brett and sweet honey creating a wonderful cocktail like quality.

Gush and appearance aside, a very tasty saison.

500 mL bottle. Slightly hazy golden yellow. Smells of lemon, a little grassy, coriander, and some yeast. Tastes a little tart. Lemony. Grainy. Strong coriander. Herbal aftertaste. Light and crisp. Pretty nice.
