Mixed fermentation saison. Total curiosity pick. No idea what to expect.
Pours a straw gold, bright, with light foam. Lots of life left in the glass. Some funk, wet hay and horse blanket on the nose. It’s tart, with some floral funk on the palate, a bite of green apple, and a thin finish. I drank this about six months after purchase, but it dates back from a few years (There’s information about a festival in 2017 on the label, but no actual bottled date), so I wonder if I sat on it too long.

16.9oz bottle of the 2018 vintage, courtesy of ovaltine. Probably my first beer that was brewed to commemorate a music festival. The bands that were scheduled to attend are listed on the label, and it looks like it was a pretty good lineup.

Slightly chill-hazed golden color, with a sudsy white head of a couple finger's width. Said head dropped quickly but never entirely died away. Decent lace.

Viniferous nose. As it warms, some tart, citrusy aromas and a peppery spiciness emerges.

Flavor is of tart sourness, white wine, with a little bit of some bitter citrus and some peppery spiciness. Chamomile seems most prominent in the after taste, which was preceded by a dry finish.

Medium bodied, with a crisp, dry mouthfeel.

Really enjoyed this. My kind of a summer beer, even if it's from last spring! It really seems to have held up well. Thanks, Mike!

This beer pours a hazy sunshine color with a white head that dissipates quickly per the style. Tart fruity aromas of white wine and orange peel dominate the nose.

Those aromas translate well to the taste, and there’s a nice chamomile flavor, too. This is really well-executed.

Had this at Sour Sunday at Triple Rock. Had to try it given that we've been going on tour with hocking tripel for around a decade I would guess. Pours a light amber color, maybe lighter, it was kind of dark in the party room. Has a real summery kind of vibe in the aroma, lemon, oak, grass, beach.

Taste, wow this is pretty good. Wasn't expecting that, you drink a few infected Jackie O's beers and you stop expecting much, but I guess this is intentionally infected so we should be all good. A little green apple creeps in with some hay, carbonation totally on point here. Not overly acidic, relatively easy to drink. Wait they say its a saison? Nah, this is a wild ale all the way. Some decent white wine green grape notes on the back end of the mouth feel. This is nice beer, would bang.

A solid ale halfway between a sour and a more traditional saison. Nice tartness to it that doesn't overwhelm the underlying flavors. Semi-dry with biscuit and green apple cohabitating in harmony.

Poured from a bottle dated 2017 into the test glass
A - Exceptional clarity, light straw color, aggressive carbonation feeds a two finger cap of pure white.
S - Lite toast oak, a bit of wine barrel, lemongrass, summer grains, and a hint of green grape skin
T - Delicate with, lemon zest, again the green grape skin, a kiss of funk
M - A bit prickly, the carbonation has everything moving, semi - tart start, then things balance out, culminating with a clean bright finish
O - A delightful in every aspect Saison/Wild worth seeking out

16.9 oz bottle poured into tulip glass.

A: small creamy tiny white head that settles to nothing. The body is a burnished gold with great clarity.

S: Soft Chardonnay, a little oak, some funk, a little light banana.

T: mostly sour light vinegar, oak, grape skins, and then finishes with light bits of funk.

M: Medium bodies decent carbonation.

O: This was a pretty big miss for me. I have liked very few beers aged in wine barrels though.

Moderate pour yields a 1/2 inch white head over a very slightly hazy, light golden yellow body with minimal lacing. Nose of citrus, white wine, slate, flint, hay, slight oak, and ever so slight funk. IMO it's closer to an American Wild Ale for style. Taste of citrus, white wine, and oak. Mouthfeel is good for a Saison, but real good for an American Wild Ale. Overall my first Saison or American Wild Ale from these guys and I'm pretty impressed. Cheers!

16.9 ounce bottle, 2017 release. Served in a MadTree Teku, the beer pours a slightly hazy gold color with about an inch white head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like bready/grainy malt, white grapes/wine, earthiness, oak, lemon, lime and some peppery spice. For the most part I think the taste is just like the aroma, but there's also the addition of some funk and stonefruit flavors too. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's tart, refreshing and easy to drink with a good amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good, enjoyable brew. Glad I picked this one up, certainly worth a try. $17.99 a bottle.

Slightly cloudy pale gold, almost crystalline seafoam green, with a large, fuzzy cream head that settles to persistent bubbly blank and thick collar.

Smell is lemon-lime, orange, grapefruit, bread, floral hay, and a delicate Colby cheese funk.

This is much more tart in flavor than the smell projects, with notes of white wine, lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange, mint and some sharp oak.

The body really expands on the palate to a large froth, then settles down to a crisp and semi-dry finish.

I'm surprised to say that this was definitely close to being worth the exorbitant amount of money it took to buy this off the shelf. Maybe it was $5 overboard, but it's definitely keeping a low profile due to that price point. Also contributing to that might be the unusual name and label, which makes little sense to anybody unfamiliar with the area--it kind of comes off as a collaboration.

In any case, this is possibly the best Saison I've had out of Jackie O's, which is putting out more and more of the style into bottles lately.

A: Hazy goldenrod color with a 1.5 finger head
S: Quite sour with lemon, herbs/spice and some wheat (again all sour)
T: This is ... not good. Puckeringly sour followed by unpleasant spoiled wheat and I don't even know what else...
M: Light-bodied, sour, something undrinkable about it
O: I don't know where to start. Great brewer, great cause, perhaps this bottle got spoiled somehow but this ended up a drain pour which is a first for me for Jackie O's. Usually everything they release is fantastic. I'd love to try another bottle fresh off the line if this is ever brewed again yet at the end of the day while nothing quite comes across as flawed, it's just on my scale not a good beer

500 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2017 vintage bottling. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy pale golden/straw yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big lightly tart lemon, lime, peach, pear, mango, melon, pineapple, apricot, green apple, white wine, oak, vanilla, pepper, hay, straw, herbal, grass, leather, wheat, cracker, slight white vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, oak barrel, and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lightly tart lemon, lime, peach, pear, mango, melon, pineapple, apricot, green apple, white wine, oak, vanilla, pepper, hay, straw, herbal, grass, leather, wheat, cracker, slight white vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tartness and yeast/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, peach, pear, mango, melon, pineapple, apricot, green apple, white wine, oak, vanilla, pepper, hay, straw, herbal, grass, leather, wheat, cracker, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, oak barrel, and moderate pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tart/spiciness balance, and zero puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from tart/spiciness and carbonation, increasing through the glass. Medium-plus carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, and grainy/acidic/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is awesome Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6.5%. Overall this is an awesome wild saison! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, oak barrel, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing the drink with the modestly tart/tannic/drying finish. Wonderful well developed Brett complexity; with perfectly balanced wine/oak barrel and malt flavors. A highly enjoyable and very impressive offering.

Look is a clear light gold with 2 fingers of bright white head.

Aroma is nice and easy. Lemony citrus and some light wine barrel.

Taste follows nose with nice tart lemon goodness and some wine barrel on the backend.

Feel is crisp as carb is moderately high. Finishes slightly dry.

Overall a nice saison. Easy drinking and tasty.

500 mL bottle. Clear yellow. Smells of corn, a little lemon, light wine. Tastes of white wine, much stronger than the nose. Again, some corn. Yeasty with some lemon tartness. A touch of bitterness. Light body. Tastes a little oxidized, too. Meh.

On tap. Almost clear golden color with white head. Aroma has some yeast funk, wood and wine notes. Taste has tart stonefruits and dry white wine. Light body, dry, well carbonated.
