On tap at brewery:
Listed as an imperial red aged for 16 months in bourbon barrels.
Pours like a dark ale, pretty much near black, and on a full pour, even the edges don't give an amber hue. Medium thin rim of light beige head.
Nose is almost entirely bourbon barrel, but softened in a pleasing way. I get much more of a tobacco impression in this than most BBA beers. So I'll go pipe tobacco cherry, light brown leather, a little tangy raisin.
Taste balanced barrel and some form of base beer. Too bold to be a dubbed, too tame to be a quad (ignoring the lack of Belgian yeast in those styles. I don't get amber, but raisin/date provide the first impression. The alcohol heat is negligible to absent, the bourbon barrel playing deeper in the background here. The flavors thereof definitely have an influence but really do feed into the beer. No sign of this being a big beer - medium feel/heft/body.
A rare across the board rating. This was a well integrated barrel-aged beer to be sure. no aspect stands out over the others, they all come across solidly.

Malty huge red ale, some hops still prevailing in the finish. Barley sweetness dominant. It's good, with the last third of the bottle saved for a stew.

2017 vintage
375ml bottle poured into a snifter
A- pours a ruby brown color with a thin foamy khaki head that disappears almost immediately, leaving nothing behind
S- barrel-forward aroma with plenty of oaky notes that also adds aromas of vanilla, coconut & caramel. Undertones of tobacco, leather, fig & cocoa
T- as with aroma, plenty of barrel notes up front; lots of oak and barrel juice, coconut, vanilla & caramel. Malty mid-tone with more caramel and dark fruits. The finish gives more barrel and sweet malt
M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel and a warming finish
O- tons of barrel from the extended aging, that works well with the malty base beer

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a 1/2 inch tan head a over a medium-dark brown body with a little lacing. Head is down to a thin ring in a matter of a couple minutes. Nose of bourbon, dark fruit, caramel, brown sugar, and a bit of vanilla. Taste mirrors nose with some chocolate fudge flavor coming through as well. Good feel with medium carbonation. Overall, a pretty tasty imperial red. Cheers!

12.7 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a Jackie O's snifter
2017
It gushed a little upon opening. This beer pours a deep mahogany color and is topped with less than an inch of tan head that leaves no lacing. The beer does leave an oily film on the sides of the glass.
The smell has that charachteristic Jackie O's bourbon barrel aroma. I smell caramel and vanilla right away. Then I get some dark cherry and plum aromas.
It tastes exactly like it smells. The bourbon comes through as vanilla and caramel. It is complimented by cherry and dark fruit flavors. It has a dry finish.
Full bodied. Viscous mouthfeel
I like the dark fruit and bourbon aspects of this beer. It is very enjoyable and is warming me up on a chilly spring evening.

Opaque dark brown with a thin but creamy tan blanket settling to a thick collar.
Smell is prune, raisin, caramel, brown sugar and bourbon oak. As it warms, black licorice, soft peppery spice and sassafras develop, with a hint of marshmallow on the back end.
Taste is prune, charred oak, fig and caramel. Deep, rich and complex, dark oak with vanilla and spiced bourbon come through on a second pass.
Medium to light bodied with a crisp but soft mild fizz, this has a slick swallow with a lightly numbing sting and semi-dry finish.
