Wheat ale fermented with raspberry puree. Poured from a can into a Bell's tulip. The pour is reddish-amber and hazy with about a finger of white foamy head that sports rather poor retention. I get some raspberries on the nose, but not much.

Very little sweetness, just a dry, seedy tartness with a touch of hops. It's difficult to distinguish between wheat tartness and raspberry tartness. Some light bready notes up front, a dingy, earthy mid-palate, and then a somewhat dead finish with just a hint of raspberry. I would imagine this beer would taste really good if you were hot and thirsty. Sitting in a comfortable living room on a rainy day, it does not.

When I popped open this can, I thought this beer could go one of two ways. Either it can be an intensely-fruited wheat beer with lots of wonderful sweet and tart flavors (sort of a cross between Bell's Oberon and Founders Rubeus) or it can be another bland wheat beer with just enough fruit to claim it on the label. The moment I saw it and smelled it, I knew it was the latter. It doesn't have nearly enough flavor to suit me and it doesn't have enough fruit flavor to rescue it either. There are numerous beers like this from mediocre brewers and I was really surprised that an outstanding brewer like Jackie O's would make one. I will probably spruce up the remaining cans with some himbeer syrup. Not recommended. There are far better wheat beers out there.

Crisp and refreshing, well-executed wheat ale with natural berry undertones. Nothing too sweet or artificial. This isn't one to write home about, but I'd never turn one down, especially on a hot day.

12 oz can in Dublin Ohio.
Orange Amber color with a hint of red and a decent head.
Pronounced and appealing raspberry aroma with some pancakes in the background.
Much more wheat and other grain flavor upon tasting. The raspberry is still obvious but in good balance.

O: excellent for style.

The color is sort of a cloudy copper, thick orange with an orange-red hue in the depths. A white head is small but sturdy, holding the creamy cap well and leaving a mix of spotting and patching as it descends.
The smell is wheat first and raspberry second, in very specific order but both very much there. It's got a dry, crackery element, and I almost wonder if it's cracked wheat, and some earthiness follows through.
The taste switches it up, with the raspberry first on the tongue and the strong wheat foundation showing after it pops out. It's light but fresh, a little jammy, with just a light floral bitterness into the finish.
The feel is light, somewhat dry, and firmly crisp with a bit of an herbal note.
