Pretty thick looking and very close to black, this could pass as either beer or cold-brewed coffee. The tan head is tight, about exactly one finger tall. It keeps itself together nicely and for the duration, leaving ample evidence of itself on the walls of the glass until the end.
Loads of coffee make the aroma, but it's no one-trick pony, so to speak. This stout has a big, robust malts base to put it on. It features notes of bittersweet baker's chocolate, and the coffee is as fresh as I've ever smelled in a beer like this.
It tastes more like fresh cold-brewed coffee than all except one coffee stout I've ever had. Roast from malts play with it so that it could easily be the coffee itself. Deep, rich cocoa notes come out without pushing. There's a certain creaminess in the flavor, too.
Carbonation is low but well-played, as no more is needed than what's given. The body is full and pretty rich. It's got crispness but the focus is appropriately aimed more toward smoothness.

A little thin for me but trust me, this is a good brew.
big coffee and dark chocolate upfront. Followed by malty flavor .
Very smooth and easy drink. Not a huge mouthful and a thin stout but by no means does this take away from the overall drink.
Another great beer from JackieOs.

Served on tap in a can glass. Appears a deep brown color with a thin tan head. The nose is loaded with roasted malts, touches of caramel and blasts of coffee. The taste follows suite with a touch of sweetness up front followed by coffee and the dark roastiness. The coffee takes over the finish and lingers. Overall, this is exactly what you should expect from a beer of this name.

Presentation: Poured from a growler into an Imperial pint glass. Listed on the chalkboard at the brewpub as a "coffee stout brewed with Dawn Chorus (roasted at Perks.)" Perks is a local coffee shop, just down the street.

Appearance: Pours with 1/2 finger of tan head. This settles to a ring around the glass. Some lacing. The beer itself is a deep, dark brown, nearly completely opaque, with some light seeping through the edges.

Smell: Strong, astringent coffee aroma. Hints of baker's cocoa and a slight note of lactose sweetness.

Taste: Mild roasted barley upfront. Chocolate notes are sweeter in taste than smell. A slight sourness in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation level is average. Impressive after a week in the growler. Body is good, kind of slick.

Drinkability: A good mix of the classic stout flavors I like so much: chocolate, coffee, and roastiness. Another hit from Jackie O's.

Pitch black pour with a slow head. The first pour from the growler yields very little, but the later pours have a nice brown fluff. Aromas are of milk chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor is very mellow with sweet chocolate, espresso, roast, and a very smooth creamy finish. The mouthfeel is rich and decadent, with a lingering coating of the palate. The coffee is present, but not too strong. Quite drinkable, and a good staple of the Jackie O's line-up.
