The pour was from a growler purchased directly from the pub in Athens, Ohio. The cola like color was topped off by a light latte colored head. Cherry highlights were present when held up to the light.
The strong scent of caramel was mixed with smoke and the hint of alcohol could be detected.
Sweet malts left a butterscotch undertone with the taste of alcohol. Smoky bitterness balanced out the taste of this very good Wee Heavy. The carbonation was a bit on the weak side but did not detract from the pint.
A great Ale for staying in and finishing the growler.

On tap at their Anniversary party.

A - A dark amber colored beer that looks brown in lower light. Off-white head that faded slowly and left some good lace on the sides.

S - Nice malts on the backbone with a great earthy/peaty aroma. Smells sweet but has a good bit of roast and smoke as well.

T - Good caramel with a bit of peat and smoke. The malts are nicely earthy making this seem like a very scottish Scottish Ale. A little bit of grain and just a slight bit of bitterness on the end.

M - Medium bodied with solid carbonation.

O - Good beer. Not geneerally a fan of Scotch Ales but this was a good representation of the style and had goo balance of flavors.

On tap at Sammy's Gourmet Burgers & Beers, served in a chilled (sigh) shaker pint.

A: Arrived in the glass a deep russet brown, with a two-finger very pale tan head. Lacing on the glass was decent.

S: Unfortunately, due to the nature of the location and the kitchen therein, I was unable to get much of the nose. What I was able to detect involved light caramel-toffee malt notes.

T: In contrast to my experience with the aroma, however, this had flavor a-plenty, chilled glass notwithstanding! Caramel malts with hints of toffee form the backbone of the flavor profile, which is wound through with earthy bitterness. Somehow, the earthy hops do not overpower the sweetness, which is in my opinion a good thing. Some faint hints of butterscotch come through towards the middle, and it finishes as dry earth. There's a touch of boozy warmth, which is not overstated.

M: Medium in both body and carbonation, this manages to be drinkable without fading to a watery finish.

O: A solid go at a wee heavy, able to use some hop presence without bringing it into the forefront to take over.
