I love Jackie O's barleywines but this one doesn't quite come together for me. The Sherry is prominent and that dried, spiced fruit wine note doesn't allow much room for the bourbon forward, brown sugary base beer I love so much. There is some oaky tobacco, potpourri like spice, an almost hot, vinous note, green grapes skin, and just a little sweet bourbon at the finish. The body thinner than is typical from Jackie O's.

2020 version. Pours a dark brown with minimal head. Smell of bready malt, toffee, chocolate with a muted barrel presence. Taste like the aroma with the barrel coming through more and dark fruits coming out. Slick mouthfeel that stays with you for awhile. Overall another well done JO's brew.

12.7 oz bottle shipped from the brewery.
Pours a deep brown color with no head, just a thin khaki ring around the glass.
Sweet smell with hints of vanilla and Sherry.
Taste of bakers chocolate, brown sugar and maple syrup.
Silky, full body feel. I like it!

Dark brown with muddled dark red edges and a short but creamy tan head.
Incredibly woody and simultaneously lactic, it's forward of very milky milk chocolate and Reisens, while also just super oaky and dry, almost hickory-esque. It's quite possibly the most spirit-like brew to come out of JO's yet, as it's really drinking more like it than beer. It doesn't feel like Sherry, as it's not particularly hot, syrupy or sticky, but it certainly shares its flavor attributes, particularly the nice nougat note with a hint of red wine.

12.7 ounce bottle, 2020 vintage. Served in a Jackie O's snifter, the beer pours a dark brown color with about a half inch tan head that didn't stay around for very long. Not much lacing. The brew smells like bourbon, vanilla, sherry and earthiness. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there's also the addition of some toffee, brown sugar, bready malt, dark fruit and nutty flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's coating and smooth with a mdoerate amount of carbonation. Thought this was a good Brick Kiln variant. I liked this brew a lot, certainly worth picking up if you're into English style barleywines!
