1 pint bottle, dated 2020, poured into red Burgundy style wine glass
L: Initial pour creates a 1/2" thick head which quickly dissipates to a slight lace. Beer is deep violet in color, close to the color of Syrah grapes, and effervescent. Good deal of sediment which settles at the bottom of my glass.
S: Aroma isn't too powerful, but definitely get some grape must and saison funk. The grapes definitely come through, the aroma is dominated by the smell of Syrah.
T: Effervescent in the mouth as a saison should be, sour and salty up front (almost like a gose) but then the wine and funk flavors come through. Reminds me at times of a Blanc de Noirs. Nicely balanced.
F: As mentioned above it's effervescent and almost feels like a Blanc de Noirs in the mouth. Not as carbonated as most saisons, almost like it's halfway between that and wine.
O: A great offering from one of my go-to local brewers, would definitely buy again. It's really well balanced overall, with the sourness and saltiness giving way to funk and wine must. The aroma was actually a bit weaker than I had anticipated, but overall this is a really interesting offering from Jackie O's that you should definitely pick up if you see it. Particularly if you are a fan of grape-grain hybrid experiments like this (as I am!).
