Made my first in-person trip down to Jackie O's this Valentine's weekend for my birthday. Needless to say, I was quite excited and encountered an impressive lineup.

Appearance- Pours an interesting shade of pinkish crimson off the tap with a minimal sheet of white head that turns instantly into a ring around the edges. No lacing and very mild carbonation.

Smell- Lots of raspberries seem to have gone into this one and seem to be the fruit of choice at Jackie O's. The description listed a variety of local fruits that had gone in, but I can only pick up on raspberry in the nose. Additionally, there is a light vanilla scent from the barrel, along with a nice whiff of mild lactic tartness. Fairly dominated by the raspberry however.

Taste- Again, very raspberry forward. Tastes of fresh sour raspberries with a bit of woody seediness as well. Some mild grape skin qualities show through as well. Vanilla is present yet again and mixes fairly agreeably with the fruitiness. Mild lactic tartness to finish off, though nowhere near as sour as I was expecting. More of a Cabernet type sour.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability- Mouthfeel is appropriate for the style with just enough carbonation, and the beer itself went down fairly easily as well with a good balance on the tartness.

Overall, a decent American Wild Ale but paled in comparison to some of the other beers on tap. I preferred the Vulcan Faunus but this one was pretty solid on the whole as well.

Served on tap at Jackie O's. Ordered at the public house, but the beer was on tap next door at the brewery, which was closed. The beer went from tap to pint, then into my tulip glass.

A- A murky brown with purple tones and a very thin film covering part of the surface. A very thin collar of white, showing no active carbonation or beading. The clarity improves slightly at higher temperatures.

S- Intense sourness and acidity even when first served and very cold. A lemon juice tartness and acidity with an underlying spiciness, almost cinnamon-like. Also present are oak and winey alcohol in the background.

T- Not as intense of a sourness as the aroma suggests. A slightly puckering acidic sourness that smoothes out quickly into an oaky and clean finish. In between is a slight fruitiness that is difficult to pin down. No alcohol detectable. Swishing the beer around in my mouth intensifies the sourness. As it warms, the oak in the finish becomes more prevalent. Very refreshing!

M- Medium bodied for a sour, with low carbonation, probably from the double pour. The sourness may even be giving the illusion of additional carbonation. The low carbonation does add to this beer's drinkability.

D- Insanely drinkable! The sourness is restrained and the alcohol is almost unrecognizable, making the next sip soon to come. A flavorful, well-done, balanced sour that can properly be called "sessionable."

Note: This beer should grade out better than a 4.1, but weighting "look" as 20% really drops the overall grade more than it deserves. This review was dedicated to Rhinos00.
