Nice dark color, aromas are hoppy and bright. Crisp light mouthfeel that makes this a good drinker. Good balance of roasted dark malt with the robust hop profile. Finish is crisp and nicely bitter. Very much like a Black IPA, but with a nice oaty malt profile. Could have a few of these.

pours out a thick inky jet black, and thick looking as well with an almost oil like appearance, really quite nice. Rich chocolate colored tan foam that rose up a good two inches over the top of the glass before finally settling down to a thin half inch layer

sweet notes of chocolate and coffee along with hints of lactose that I was looking for. The flavors followed along with a hint again something sweet, but yet a nice oak, earthy and leather like note as well. Very nice. Very rich full body on this one with great carbonation that never really gave up any ground at all.

Overall, I thought this was excellent. really a great little beer that i was glad to bring over to my inlaws tonight for fathers day.

A - Full black beer with a brown head that left a surprising amount of lace. Pretty imposing looking oatmeal stout.

S - Exceptionally roasted and burnt malts on this. A lot of heft with some rye and roasted oats.

T - Good punch and heft on this. Strong roasted and burnt malts, rye, oats, and burnt chocolate. Feels bigger than its 6.5%. Bittering on the finish, there isn't much sweetness in this, focus is on the roasted characteristics, which I find to be very good.

M - Heavier side of medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

D - Great beer, not a huge fan of oatmeal stouts but this one has a lot of great characters found in your typical one. Would drink this again and often.

On tap in a pint glass at Bodega on 2/12/11

Dark brown; close to black. Thin layer of head retention. Some lace dried at the top of the glass but not much else. Some lace picks up toward the end, too.

Smells good: coffee, bitter cocoa dust, earthy tones. Overtones of rye spice and hoppiness. Subtle hints of chocolate and dark berries. Seems more dry than sweet. Tastes of roasted coffee, grains and oats. Bittersweet chocolate. Hoppy kick in the middle. Solid nip of rye lingers on the finish with roasted residuals. Medium body with an inherent nimble swagger. Carbonation is just lower than average.

Drinks well and is enjoyable. Worth a shot.

Pours a dark brown with a tiny bit of white head that dissipates quickly. Smells malty and sweet. A hint of smokiness as well. Maybe some fruitiness on the nose. Tastes a bit hoppy. Lotsof roasted malts an sweeter almost butter sweetness. The malt profile is very roast and smoky. Thick mouthfeel and fairly drinkable

A - dark opaque black, moderate tan head disappears as you watch to a film and heavy ring of foam.

S - Coffee, vanilla, caramel, bitter and fresh. Sweet earthy notes underneath.

T - real interesting, bitter and earthy, coffee and chocolate, caramel and sweet dark fruits.

M - a bit light, but big and thick.

D - intense and bit, but tasty and not hard to swallow.

A- Pours a black color with a brown colored head. Head turns into a layer of bubbles and leaves some nice lacing behing.

S- Smells very closely to the bacon ryno just not a smokey. A great amount of roasted notes and coffee here.

T- A good, complex brew we have here. A solid balance between coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, and touch of dark fruits. Just a tiny bit of bitterness at the finish.

M- Medium in body and carbonation seemed to be about right on.

D- A very solid brew and easy to drink. Nice and roasty wish I had this one in the winter.

Had on tap at Casa Nueva, then at the brew pub Jackie O's (where it's brewed) then went back this weekend and got a growler of it because I loved it so much.

It is pitch black, as it should be b/c it's a stout, leaves some brown lacing as you drink, has some brown lacing around the beer as it sits as well.

Smells of burnt espresso, rye, hops, maybe some bitter burnt chocolate as well.

Taste is fantastic. Incredibly smooth with some bitter dark chocolate, espresso, and great bitterness from the rye. There is something mid-palate that I can't pull out though. Excellent outmeal rye stout. Not too strong though, low alcohol around 6.1%, and the taste is not over whelming it goes down so smoothly and easily.

Really drinkable, I am going to drink this 1/2 gallon growler this evening b/c it's so tasty and amazingly smooth.

I have loved every beer I have had that Jackie O's makes themselves. Excellent little brew pub, if you have the chance check them out in Athens, Ohio.

On tap at Bodega. Served in a pint, but thankfully my barmaid have me a heady pour.

A- Rich dark looking with a long lasting, lacy head. The beer is damn black, not letting much light pass.

S- This has a very expressive nose. Lots of coffee, chocolate and rye. I think the rye gives lots of fruitiness to this aroma with a base of bread crust.

T-Oatmeal, chocolate chip cookies move across the tongue first. It breaks into a snappy rye malt and coffee bitterness. This beer starts smooth and ends bitter.

Black Ryno is listed as an India Oatmeal Rye Stout. Poured into a shakers pint glass.

A- Pours a dark, chocolate brown color. Produced two fingers width of mocha colored head. Heavy lacing as the beer was consumed, good head retention.

S- Definite notes of oatmeal and rye upfront. Underneath is a sweet malt base, along with some roasted characteristics.

T- Very complete. Initially there is a nice touch of oatmeal, which is complemented by some burnt malts and a slight bitterness. Finishes with a mixture of rye and various spices. Quite unique. There is a deep, charred, chocolate flavor underneath it all.

M- Medium bodied with perfect amount of carbonation. Coated the palate nicely, yet left it a little on the dry side.

D- This beer is very flavorful and at 6.5% goes down really smoothly. If you like your beers roasted, this will be right up your alley.

Overall, one of my favorite offerings from Jackie O's, even though it's not my favorite style. Just very well made from beginning to end. This should be a regular offering!
