Notes:
Bourbon barrel-aged barleywine, brewed with Maris Otter, Munich, brown sugar, and lots of caramel malt. Ten malts, a long boil, and barrel aging came together to create a complex barleywine with notes of rich caramel, oolong tea, bruleed sugar, and well-aged spirit.

2022 vintage; drank 5/16/23 @ the Yarchives.
Opaque dark brown appearance.
An even pour yielded a minimal tan head; no lace.
Leather, caramel. charred oak & bourbon heat notes in the nose.
Medium thick mouthfeel.
Caramel & leather flavors up front; mild booze heat & faint oak flavors.
Overall, solid English Barleywine vibes here.

A - Dark brown pour that looks like a Stout and has uber thin caramel lacing.
S - Bourbon, sweet brown sugar, raisins, and toasted caramel.
T - Alcohol forward with Bourbon, roasted brown sugar, toasted caramel and toffee, and ends on the sweet side with lingering toasted toffeee, caramel, and Bourbon.
M - Big, silky, viscous, lip smacking sticky, and warming in the back of the throat with a wet mouth and leaves a dry spot on the back of the tongue.
O - This is a really nice barrel Aged English style. Worth seeking out.

Hi kids!! Do you like syrup!?!
Very dark barleywine, my favorite type. Quite gelatinous looking. Head is dismal, and bubbly not frothy - my only gripe.
Smell is raisens and sugar. Classic jackie os sweetness (that i actually hate because they all have a sugar water taste) with a more redeeming depth of malt beyond the sugar than most of their beers.
Taste - you're not hit with sweetness up front that you normally are (spoiler - its still there). Up front I get a chalky, papery dry oxidized note of much older barleywines. Old jw lees and vintages of mother of all storms come to mind. Its figgy and hot. Raisenettes and an earthiness come up next to me. It finishes with the excessive syrupy mess that all jackie os beers are brought down by.
Feel is dense with sugar. Prepare to scrub your teeth with your tongue for 20 seconds after every damn sip trying to dilute the sucrose from every waking crevice.
Overall I wanted this to be a lot better. I had so much higher hopes given the praise ive seen this beer get. Sadly this is only a touch above an average jackie os beer. I standby this brewery to be a one trick pony whose every barrel aged beer tastes 95% the same (sugar) with mild nuances.
Meh.

Had on tap. Opaque dark brown pour with a tan head. Super rich caramel powerfully dominates the nose with molasses forward bourbon, toffee, char, nuts, and barley are right behind. Taste is simpler with a ton of long boil malt richness starring, showing off its wares of toasted caramel, toffee, candied nuts, raisin, molasses and bourbon, with oak, char, earth, and barley adding some contrast underneath on the last third of the sip. Feel is malty and smooth with thick richness, very very warm and boozy. A boozy malt bomb of a barleywine

Poured from the bottle into a large snifter glass. Vintage 2022.
Inky brown out of the bottle, filling with a dark mahogany and barrely a pencil thin tan collar presented. Shiny like oil but slightly lifeless looking appearance wise, with a little bit of sheeting legs.
Impressive aroma. Woody hints of oak, with a light bit of heat. Touches dark molasses and fruity prune to sweet raisin. Light touches of caramel, more fruit than chocolate or brown sugar. Quite nice on the nose, but does run hot.
First impressions, the mouthfeel is the most impressive thing on first sip. Silky like light honey, but with a melted chocolate mouthfeel going to the gullet. Less chocolate tasting in the mid palate, but a wonderfull molasses and fruited brandy like flavor, more so than whiskey or caramel. Silky touching and spicy fruited hop with faint milk chocolate angles. More pronounced chocolate on the finish, but also hints a little fizzy and playful.
Neat tasting barleywine, very enjoyable.

Pours a tiny fizzy head with almost no retention, nice legs, dark molasses brown color
Nose big caramel, toffee, a bit nutty, lots of dried sweet fruit, fig, date, hint of waxy port oxidation notes, a bit of sweet bourbon, plenty of vanilla, vanilla ice cream, candy syrup on top
Taste starts pretty sweet, fair syrupy like but not sticky syrupy, plenty of toffee and big caramel, little molasses and an almost burnt caramel, chewy sweet, some dried sweet dark fruits, plenty vanilla ice cream and vanilla barrel, a bit of sweet bourbon, bourbon barrel maple syrup like, alcohol is very smooth, a touch of spicy hop bitterness, finishes semi sweet but drier than expected
Mouth is fuller bod, a bit syrupy, thick chewy, alcohol is very light and hidden well, carb is a bit on the lower side but OK
Overall pretty nice, a bit too sweet overall, barrel is a bit light, but alcohol is hidden well, and general flavors are nice

Great scent on this--brown sugar, buttery pancake edges, hard pretzels with an undertone of orchard rot, must, and prunes. Taste follows scent: lots of sweetness--caramels, milk chocolate, pumpernickel, brown sugar--cut with some barrel heat, musty oak tannins, and some orchard rot. Sweet dark fruits and a touch of acidity on the swallow.
Stands out for intensity of maillards along with typical Jackie o's execution: full body without unnecessary heft

Sweet and decadent caramel/molasses malty, fig newtony dark fruity, and well-integrated barrel nose on this one! Taste follows with those sweet caramel notes upfront and then a nice kick of bourbon barrel booziness. As it warms, it's missing just a touch more sweetness upfront to balance out some of the barrel bitter notes on the backend IMO. Overall, this is just a great sipper and well done!

Pours a dark brown color, opaque and slick. Thin, off-white head forms on the beer, lingers for a moment before dissipating. Thin residual ring of foam remains on the top of the beer. Aroma has notes of rich bready and nutty malts, brown sugar, sticky buns, pecans, bourbon, wet oak, a touch of mustiness and some caramel. Really rich and delicious on the nose.
Taste follows the nose with notes of caramel, toffee, maple candy, sticky bun, and some dried dark fruits. All that gives way to a rich malty backbone with nutty and bready character. The bourbon and oak come through on the back end bringing with them a noticeable heat on the palate. There is a moderate spiciness that comes through on the back end that cuts through the overall sweetness and adds a nice counterbalance to it. Feel is medium bodied, smooth, but with a certain syrupy stickiness to it. Moderate carbonation. Smooth, but warming finish.
Overall it's a lovely, rich BA barleywine. Hits all the notes I love and want from a barrel aged English Barleywine.

Thanks to D4kapa for this 375ML bottle from one of my favorite breweries. Plus, more barleywine in the fridge. Christmas in October!
The pour is surprising – dark brown or light black, per your preference. The nose is a long play of brown sugar with a bit of caramel.
Endolith. A brown sugar cake filled with caramel taken with a shot of bourbon. That’s the review. Heaviest use of brown sugar I can trace back in my illustrious career, which gives it a resonant, deep sweetness that transcends lactose or malts or Pitch Perfect movies. Bourbon builds & builds with a stab of oak that sticks the finish. This agrees with my sweet tooth. Teeth. All of them.
What’s better than a beer that’s sweet, full of bourbon, delicious, & will put you on the county road to drunksville? I can only think of a few things. Excellent brew.

From the 12.7 oz bottle in a snifter. This shocker pours a dark
brownish black with a modest head of off white foam that sizzles to
a razor thin ring....give it a swirl and it has great legs! Nose of WOW.
Dark brown sugars, sherry, bourbon, oak, rich vanilla, brulee, dark
fruits, and vinous wine notes. Flavors hit the mark with sherry, bourbon,
rum, oak, vanilla, plum, raisin, brulee, brown sugars, blueberry, and sweet
cherry. Excellent mouth feel; medium full body, smooth, rich, lightly coating,
warming, and finishing lightly dry with a sweet but NOT cloying malt note.
Of note, dates and figs present themselves with warmth!
Overall----nothing more to say other than WOW. PERIOD!
Cheers

The body pours a dark mahogany brown. Little initial head and no lacing throughout the tasting.
The nose is a delightful sweet bourbon. The taste follows nose but with an amplification of the aroma: more sweet bourbon and added depth of fig and dark fruit notes. The taste is sweet that never gets to cloying. Some barrel fans may find this one crosses that line. My preference is for English style and so bourbon sweetness is a virtue. The wolf in sheep’s clothing is the 13.6% is fully masked.
Mouthfeel is heavy bourbon, little carbonation and the palate is coated with bourbon and dark fruit goodness.
Overall a fabulous Barleywine for the bourbon fan that is straight forward. Methinks Bourbon County fans would enjoy this one.

The taste is sweet, but not too sweet. Great amount of barrel. Molasses, maple, brown sugar. Dark fruit, sherry, and vanilla. Really nice. Not the most complex, but fantastic and on point for the style. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and the aftertaste is sweet.

I love the sweet elements at work here, but I wouldn't have minded a little something for balance and contrast. Caramelized brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, bourbon, Moravian sugar cake, etc. Kinda one note but it's a pretty one, sung clear and clean.
