Bottle, no apparent date (bought at brewery):
Pours a dark, not quite oily color - I'll go black. The tan head builds nicely - almost two fingers. Large bubbles find a home in creaminess. The head is slow to leave, and is ready to return on a swirl.

The nose has a little roastiness, but I really get the walnut (mostly a oily nut, but knowing it's walnut makes the scent more obvious). It's actually impressive, but also leads to me wanting some of the stout base.

The feel is one of a lighter, more oily stout. The taste is roastiness with a cola aspect. Now this is only one part of the beer - I'd say just less than 50% of it. The walnut is a big part of this beer (again, mildly impressive in itself). The skins and slightly bitter notes of the nut fight the stout - and tend to grab my palate more. The back end comes with what appear to be the PNW hops - piney bitterness which I think loses me a tad as it's a little too bitter after the nut bitterness.

Really it's the back end bitterness that doesn't work for me. I wish the perceived hop bitterness were dialed back. I prefer a roasted char bitterness in my stouts - perhaps accented by hops. This one comes across to heavy-handed on this aspect.

Pours a very dark syrupy brown with a thin tan head on top. Aroma is nutty and grainy with hints of caramel and sweet bread. Flavor is roasty and nutty, sweet with a big of a toasted flavor. Feel is smooth, slightly syrupy, medium carbonation, sticky lingering flavor. Nice complex stout with some interesting flavors.

Pitch black with a thin tan head. Smell overly sweet but taste is far more balanced. Starts sweet finishes bitter and dry. Taste is nutty and chocolate. Smooth creamy mouthfeel. Some heat from the alcohol. Very good. A favorite.

L: pours a bit thin and brown. Looks black in the glass with a film of brown head
S: milky lacto chocolate sweetness, with a slight nutty aroma
T: artificial chocolate sweetness and nutty.
F: medium thickness, coats pretty well too.
O: not a big fan of this one.
