Poured from a 12.7 fl.oz. bottle into a Firestone Walker snifter.

L- Very deep, dark brown with a nice little mocha head that fades to a sweet little ring. Bits of lacing hang on for a while.

S- Chocolate, dark fruits, maybe molasses...maybe.

T- Dry and powdery like Prairie Bomb! Cocoa and nuts with a bit of old leather finish it off. Really cool...

F- If you swish it around just a bit it'll give up lots of bubbles that really soften it up. Rolls right off the sides of your tongue....perfect!

O- Really a great beer. Very interesting, not like too many others I've had. Recommended!

375ml bottle sealed with Jackie O's pressure cap.

vintage 2015.

poured into HF wine stem.

Appearance: opaque black bodied beer. Two full fingers of medium khaki colored head that is thick and dense with lots of tightly packed bubbles. Head drops down to thin ring around the glass. Spotty lacing is all over the side of the glass.

Smell: This stout smells pretty nice lots of chocolate and rolled oats in the aroma. An earthy aroma with hints of smoke and roast malt.

Taste: starts of with a light milk chocolate sweetness and ends with a mild roast and mild bitterness. Earthy, smokey, and roasty. Subtle nuance of rolled oats. Hints of black licorice and nuttiness in the finish. Light bitterness lingers in a very pleasant way for an extended time frame.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied stout with moderate carbonation levels. Silky mouthfeel and creamy carbonation. Light booze bite that is noticeable and not out of line. Slight dry quality about the finish that adds to the booziness factor.

Overall: This is a nice beer, but it feels more like a porter to me. If Hill Farmstead Everett was a boozey beer and had some black licorice flavor, I would say that Oil of Aphrodite would be nearly identical to Everett porter. I could not find either of the adjuncts in this beer(black walnut and the belgian candied syrup) in the flavor profile or in the aroma. Still a great brew by Jackie O's.

Look 9/10
Smell 18/20
Taste 38/40

Drinkability 18/20

Overall 90/100

Summery: Just a hint of nut. The sweetness plays well on the heavy malt. Definitely worth seeking out. No value though with a hefty price tag~

12 oz bottle, poured into a snifter at ~45 degrees F.

Appearance: Pours a deep, dark black, forming a few patches of bubbles along the lower edges of the glass, and forms a thick, long-lived head of a dark khaki, verging towards actual brown. Lacing is, as one would expect, impressive.

Smell: The aroma is almost tangible. Deep, rich dark chocolate, plummy fruits, newly tanned leather, and roasted nuts all swirl out of the glass, in gorgeous unison.

Taste: Oddly, less complex than the scent led me to believe. There's a distinct heat and astringency from the ABV, which likely fades if one is not drinking a freshly released bottle. Underneath that, there is a smooth, delicious stout, with flavor notes including dark chocolate, fig, plum, bitter earth, walnut, and leather. I'd like to try this again with some age on it.

Mouthfeel: Oddly light for an imperial stout, presenting itself as crushable rather than full, rich, and sticky.

Overall: Not my favorite Jackie-O's stout - that award currently goes to their Dark Apparition. That being said, this has scads of promise for developing into something truly spectacular with a bit of age, so I'll be picking up some more bottles to cellar. I'll revisit it once I try some aged.

tastes of bourbon and with nutty tones. smell is roasted malt and bourbon. My father said he liked this better than Founders KBS. This was a real treat to have and is right up there with other bourbon aged stouts
