Brewed as our final batch of 2020, Bound by Dust features a grain bill brimming with the best English, German, Belgian, and American malt available. After a sixteen month long rest in high-rye Bourbon barrels, this tremendous stout delivers robust notes of German chocolate cake, baking spices, toasted caramel, and figs.

375 ml bottle into a tulip snifter. A 2022 release, had 11/14/23.

Pours a mostly opaque dark brown, with a brief head and some oily cling. Aromas of bourbon, oak, vanilla, chocolate, raisins, some tobacco, light char, a little licorice. Flavors of bourbon, oak, malt, chocolate, vanilla, light tobacco and licorice. Has a little bit of a spicy taste. Smooth, a very good fuller body, appropriately carbonated.

A delicious example of a barrel- only beer. It’s barrel forward, but there’s lots of great and distinct aromas and flavors to pick out. Well worth the purchase, really enjoyable.

Bottled 2022. Purchased at brewery 2023. Poured at 57°. Tight tan head with mixed bubbles sits atop black with ruby edges body;poor cap retention leaves a fleeting island of micro dots; brief solid ring; no lace, no legs. Bourbon and chocolate nose; dark fruit as beer warms. Sweet chocolate, bourbon, plums, figs; mild oak middle; sweet toffee finish. Smooth feel; not adjuncty; bite on tip of tongue; medium body; light carbonation; mouth warmth from 13.3%abv; dry barrel finish. Overall quite tasty; layers of base and barrel flavors; a tad thin, but that’s JO’s; long wooden/oaky linger. A limited release…I’d buy again if our paths cross…

Poured from a bottle at fridge temp. Pours motor oil black (and thick!) with zero head. The nose is amazing. Chocolate, marshmallow, vanilla, bourbon, fudge, and a hint of brown sugar.

The taste is equally as good. Milk chocolate, a hint of black licorice, maple, dark bread, plums, and raisins. Intense on the taste given the lack of carbonation and ABV. Over time there is a bit of a roasty note. Not a ton of bourbon barrel on the taste, but it's definitely there. I like that it's not overpowering. Just the perfect balance.

Mouthfeel is thick and viscous. Aftertaste is malts and chocolate.

12.7 Fl. Oz. bottle
Served in an imperial becker style glass

This beer pours black and is topped with a thin mocha head that disappears and leaves no trace.

Delicious notes of chocolate, vanilla, and caramel are immediate. Anise also weighs in with the occasional whiff of booze.

Chocolate, vanilla, and caramel flavor. Anise plays a secondary role. No booze in the taste. Just deliciousness.

Full bodied with an oily mouthfeel

Jackie O's kills the barrel aged stout game. This is a great beer and worth the price.

On tap at Saraveza today. Surprised to see this on tap here in PDX.

The beer pours a blackish bown color with pretty decent head retention and light lacing. On the nose, there's an impressive aroma of bourbon, vanilla, and dark chocolate. As good as this beer smells, it's even better on the palate. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely in this fairly sweet stout, with considerable bourbon taking center stage. Mouthfeel is full, but this beer isn't at all heavy on the palate. There's a long, smooth finish to this beer, and the 13.3% abv. is very well integrated into the flavor profile. Carbonation is on the low side, but I think that works well for this beer and enhances the mouthfeel.

Really nice ba stout from Jackie O's. Their ba stouts tend to be spendy, which is annoying when they're nothing special. However, I don't mind paying the freight when the beer is this good. Very nice beer...

A - Dark brown / borderline black pour with thin toffee colored lacing outlining the tops. Lots of legs on the sides of the glass when the beer is swirled.

S - Big chocolate and fudge with a little bit of spice, dark fruit, oak, and drenched in Bourbon.

T - Chocolate fudge cake with raisins, figs, Bourbon, spice, oak, some dark fruit while ending on the sweeter side with a slight bit of booziness.

M - Light syrupy body that leaves a sugary residue on the lips and has some warming in the back of the throat.

O - There's some Barleywine pedigree in this one.

12.7 ounce bottle, pretty sure this was a late 2022 release. Served in a Jackie O's snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with not quite an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like fudge, vanilla, bourbon, roasted malt and caramel. I think the taste is pretty much like the aroma, but there's also some dark bread, rye, burnt/charred malt, oak and fig flavors noticeable. Leans sweeter tasting but not overpoweringly sweet. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's slick and a bit syrupy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this brew, definitely worth picking up if you're into sweeter tasting barrel aged imperial stouts!

From the bottle in a snifter. This solid imperial pours a coal black with a moderate
head of brown foam that settles to a thick ring with faint lacing and some nice legs
with a swirl. Nose of bourbon, oak, vanilla, dark berry notes, dark coffee, dark chocolate,
and dark roasted malts. Flavors hit the mark; dark coffee, dark cocoa, vanilla, oak, spicy
bourbon, dark fruits of black and raspberry, and mellow molasses with hints of
coconut. Mouth feel is full, smooth, rich, coating, moderately slick, low carbonation,
and a warming sweet finish.

Overall---excellent!

Cheers

13.3% stout aged in bourbon rye barrels for 16 months by Jackie O's

Poured from a bottle, the body is black with little head and no lacing throughout the tasting.

Aroma is rye and chocolate. Taste follows nose with the rye dominant without being hot (your call on whether that is good or not; it's okay with me). Along with the rye, chocolate, figs and a vague sweetness of vanilla and caramel.

Low carbonation but pleasant, bourbony mouthfeel.

Another very good stout that I might have said could use more aging, but after sixteen months I'm not sure it will become more than a bourbon forward stout without a malty presence. If that's your jam, belly up.

Jackie OS really surprised me with the BA release. They do quite a bit of one off releases and each one is a bit different than the previous one. However, this one really stood out with some character. It tastes like their is peanuts or peanut butter in the blend bit they don't list that ingredient which is wild. Rye comes in off the bat and the blend of grains seem to add a depth of palate. Loved it.
