Clear gold with a persistent, white creamy film.
Smell is crisp lemon-lime, orange rind, grapefruit, papaya and the barnyard funk of Brett that adds an almost salty and pungent, peppery peach skin.
Taste is more bitter than expected, consisting of the rinds of orange and grapefruit with horse blanket. As I dig more into it and it begins to warm, passionfruit and even durian (without the natural gas) develop. Having a bottle 3 months after release, the banana, mango and pineapple listed in the description really do come through, and the "durian" I noted on draft is actually like a strawberry-banana smoothie, except for the light sharp bitterness that continues to persist and keep this balanced.
Funky South Paw is crisp and tart, but bitterness takes over in a unique way for the style. As such, I can see this being a sleeper hit in an unusual way. Body is light and frothy, with a semi-dry finish.

2015 bomber, bottle #250/384 poured into a jackie o's snifter appears a perfectly clear golden copper with a white head a finger strong that fades leaving stringy lace.
Aroma is fruity with lemony lacto and something almost like pear/mango.
Taste is fruity like pear/apple skins with a grassy bitterness and mild lacto-like lemony character.
Light in body with modest carbonation. Not great, not bad. Interesting. Despite being 1.5 years old it still has a solid "pale ale" feel to it, just in a unique way.

Ample haze runs through a mostly golden beer. Interesting aroma here, mango-kiwi like fruit. Clean sour, brett notes not noticeable.
Drinks like an upland kiwi lambic but without the massive sourness or harsh acidity. Lacto sour. Probably my favorite Jackie O's beer, very well done, cool unique spin on a relatively unknown or underutilized fruit.

Bottle.
A: Delicately light Paw Paw fruit aroma, light malt with moderately light funky sourness.
A: Light golden color, totally clear with a light white head that has adequate retention with faint wisps of lacing in the glass.
T: Light Paw Paw fruit with a touch of clean malt. The beer finishes with a dry, light funkiness.
M: Light bodied with moderate carbonation
O: Very solid; the beer has a light Paw Paw (tropical fruit note) with a clean, dry funky lightly sour finish. The beer has a very delicate character (aroma, taste and mouth-feel) with an interesting and unusual (at least to Californians) tropical fruit component. While funky, it would be fun to elevate the Paw Paw flavor and sourness.

Of the May 2015 release, this may be my least favorite. Which isn't saying much, given that I still think it was delicious.
Pours a very light, hazy, pale with about a finger and a half of tight white foam, which leads lacing as you drink it down. Smell is of slight farmhouse funk, and slight saison tartness. I pick up the paw paw and brett pretty quickly, sort of a tropical fruity funk. First sip is a weird combination of tropical hop, saison tartness, and paw paws you collect when walking through the woods. That fades into a wheaty, tropical funk. Not as funky as some of their other sours, but I think given ~1 year, this becomes a fantastic bottle you'll want to dome yourself.
Cheers!
