On tap at Jackie O’s Brewpub & Public House in downtown Athens.
Clear but nearly opaque reddish-brown body with a very good beige head. Patterned lacing is left sticking to the glass.
Aroma: moderately strong for style; lacks complexity.
Flavor: much bolder than the aroma suggests, with lots of dark roasted grains and some spicy hops. Moderate bitterness for style.
Feel: full body with medium-light carbonation.

Big thanks goes out to mikesgroove for sharing this one with myself, beeruser, and funkydelic at one of our weekly tastings. Served from growler into a Mikkeller flute. Poured a deep dark brown with a half finger cream colored head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, raisins, fruit, and wood. The flavor was of sweet malt, raisins, wood, and subtle fruit. It had a light feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew. Definitely had a really big fruit character present here. I would not have guessed it was a Porter due to the lack of any roastiness in this one, but it was still quite good regardless. Definitely worth trying if you get the chance.

rich, dark black color and no light shining through on this one at all. Really nice head of tan that was easily a couple inches high at first, slowly settled down into a nice pillow that laid across the top and thoroughly coated the inside of the glass. Rich dark chocolate and roasted coffees are the first things that I am picking up in the Aroma. Really nicely done with hints of caramel and smoked malts, there is almost a peat like smell to it at times, especially as it warmed up. Equally well done as it transfers over to the flavor. Smooth, mellow, creamy, this was a very session able porter. Rich chocolate notes, hints of smoked malts, nice touches of coffee in the finish which left a slightly dry and bitter taste as it rolls away across the tongue. Very smooth and very enjoyable,

On tap at Bodega. Apparently this is the same recipe as Dark Apparition only halved. Cool concept. This should turn out great.

A- There was actually a pretty nice frothy head on this one but the bubbles were sparse and retention was short. It tried to lace the glass but it all ended up sliding back down.

S- This has a pretty deep nose. Lots of malts with little in the way of hops. A strong roasty aroma that is offset by chocolate covered dark fruits.

T- This is pretty good. With this level of roastiness and deep, dark malts this really does seem like a cut down stout. Coffee and chocolate dominate but the beer is nicely balanced.

M- The feel is nothing to write home about. Its on the thin side. It does feel watered down.

D- Easy to drink. I had no problem with my 16oz glass, but there are better porters out there and I would rather have Dark Apparition at full tilt.

"Robust brown porter based off Dark Apparition." On tap at the brewpub on December 30, 2010.

Pours dark brown with a single-finger tan head that leaves behind a touch of lacing and fades down into a thin cap. The nose is pretty robust as the name implies with some nice roasted malt, coffee, and some mild chocolate. The taste is roasty with some espresso beans and chocolate. Slight sweetness and roast combine very well on a nice body. Good drinkability. Curious if this was the second runnings from a batch of DA or just a smaller beer with a similar malt base.
