Had this at Bodega on Monday, apparently a preview of one of the brews that will be served at the release this weekend.

The menu at Bodega said that this was named as a reference to the original O'Hooley's Irish Pub and it's owner I believe.

For a style that is often associated with macro breweries or merely reserved for the obligatory seasonal release, this is one of the better Irish Red's I have had. That said, it still wasn't overly impressive/unique. However, I don't wish to diminish the fact that it was a solid beer that satisfies so long as you're not looking for something extreme.

Served in the ubiquitous Bodega shaker pint, with no head, which created a lace-less appearance. Damn you Bodega. Damn you. Reddish brown, quite nice clarity.

The smell wasn't very strong, but there was some mild hopping creating a nice earthy bitterness and some caramel malt and a weak bread crust aroma.

The beer was clean and refreshing, the best of the three beers I had that night (it was an off night, lol). The malts are there for balance and a slight sweetness, but aren't as impactful as I'd like from an experimental craft brewery.

The beer has a nice bitter finish of orange/citrus notes. The 8% alcohol really felt like a typo on Bodega's part, as this felt more like 5% - it was barely noticeable.

Fairly thin bodied, overall not bad at all. I'd happily drink another.

Pours a nice amber with reddish hue, white foam settles quickly but leaves sticky lacing. Smell is pleasant and hoppy, hint of nuttines. Taste is great, full bodied yet goes down with ease. Great hoppy finish that quenches but still leaves you thirsty. A nice palate cleanser between ripping sours.
