On tap at Jackie O's on the eve of One Funky Afternoon. Served in a stemmed chalice/wine glass hybrid thing.
The description of this new one states that its brewed with local maple syrup.
Appearance
Tobacco brown in color without much of a head. Its pretty opaque but the edges allow some light to pass.
Aroma
This is very earthy and quite yeasty. Large aromas of tobacco float up from the glass. This beer does have a healthy representation of Belgian style dark fruits but lacks the black cherry aromas that many dubbels have. Not much maple can be picked out but I think it probably lends to this beer's sweet aromas of earth and tobacco.
Taste
This stuff is very nice. Wow. The earthiness is carried over well but doesn't get in the way of the sweet fruits and yeast elements. Lots more tobacco, figs, prunes, raisins, even some cocoa and vanilla. The finish is where the maple has been hiding. It peeks out very quickly, but what a nice surprise it is for the taste buds.
Mouthfeel
Full bodied with a low carbonation. This beer is very smooth. I'm not sure but I'd wager the addition of maple syrup has helped this beer gain its lovely smoothness and full body.
Overall
I have yet to have a Belgian style from BC and the Jackie O's crew that has been less than stellar. This one was one of my favorites of the weekend. You hear me Brad? Keep up the awesome work with theses Belgians!

A very nice Belgian style dubbel. Poured from the growler I got just a few hours ago from my
LONG road trip, this ale is a medium brown in color with hints of red and a very thin off white
layer of foam that dies quickly leaving decent lacing. Nose of earthy Belgian yeast, brown
sugar, and light Belgian spices. Flavors have a light brown sugar flavor, earthy dark fruits of
plums and cherries, and a nice sweetness that presides from start to finish. Lightly syrupy
mouthfeel is lightly carbonated leaving a sweet finish. Very nice.
Cheers
