Thanks to WesMantooth for this, from a Ninja box during NBS BIF #4. Apparently the same brew as the "Brick Kiln" listed here. 12.7oz bottle poured into trusty 10oz glass. Poured a nearly solid black color, looks like a stout to me, with about 1/8 inch cap of tan head that quickly dissipated into a ring, and left no lacing.

The aroma, whooooboy!, the aroma. It certainly was no stout on the nose. Big, burly malts, more than a hint of bourbon, but not so much as to overpower the beer, a noticeable hit of alcohol, and a hint of wood combine to truly impress the olfactory sense. On the tongue, pretty similar deal; nice big malts, definite bourbon, some wood, but the difference being that the alcohol taste was stronger. I also got a bit of licorice flavor that I didn't get in the nose.

The body was surprisingly smooth, especially when you add in the alcohol bite, and coated the palate nicely, leaving a nice melange of flavors behind. The alcohol did linger at the back end, proving a bit of a distraction however. Drinkability was totes amazeballs. I would be willing to knock back 3 or 4 of these back-to-back, whether I could or not is another question. ;) Overall, a very good beer, bordering on excellent. That alcohol bite was a bit of a knock, but I would love to see what a year (or 3) would do to that aspect. This is among the best Barleywines I've had, and it's going onto my permawantslist. A must try if you see it.

Received from @Josholson666 in NBS BIF #4
Undated bottle at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter
Aroma – bourbon and dates (?)
Head – small (Maximum < two cm, aggressive pour), light brown, fizzy/frothy, gone in sixty seconds, leaves neither ring nor layer of bubbles
Lacing - none
Body – dark brown, cloudy, slight effervescence
Flavor – sweet but NOT cloying, dark fruit, some vinous hints, some caramel, a hint of diacetyl; not picking up any hops; alcohol comes in for a noticeable after burn.
Palate – medium to full, creamy, soft carbonation

Wow! What an excellent BBA English barley wine! I could drink several but I probably shouldn’t – something about gravity being a bitch. This is one of the best barley wines I’ve ever had – not that I’m a connoisseur of the style or anything, but I know what I like! Massive thanks and good karma to @Josholson666!

Thanks to rudzud, 2014

Mild fizzy creamy head, little lacing, long legs, very dark almost black color.

Nose tons of bourbon, barrel juice, toasted vanilla oak, into fudgey cocoa big creamy vanilla, tons of caramel toffee, little nutty, little biscuity cookie dough.

Taste thick syrupy caramel fudge, toffee, caramel, chewy nougat, mild fudgey cocoa, little bitter spicy hop, mild bourbon, vanilla oak notes, whisky with some booze warmth slight tingle, touch nutty, candy caramel, some dark roasty malts. Sweet syrupy candy finish, bitter roasted malt and little spicy hop, nougat fudge and little whisky lingering.
Mouth is fuller bod, decent carb, little fudgey chewy, very little booze.

Overall pretty nice, not amazing but nice

2014 vintage. Shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice one finger head that fades to leave a thin wispy blanket.

S - Aromas of rich bourbon, sticky toffee, sweet malts, nice bawl barrel notes. Really solid brown sugar notes, no alcohol.

T - Taste is similar to the, decent bourbon notes and almost bourbon soaked raisin. Good toffee and caramel notes, lots of brown sugar.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, smooth, alcohol hidden nicely.

O - Overall this was a rather solid barley wine. Very nice bourbon notes.

Look, smell, and feel we're all good, but unfortunately when it comes to taste (most important aspect), it falls quite short. Has good barrel qualities, but for an English style Barleywine, I expect a lot more caramel, toffee, fruity sweetness. Not a bad beer by any means, but I will not be seeking it out again and does not even come close to being an upper echelon BA English Barleywine.
